Abstract

Academic data plays a central role in supporting decision-making in educational institutions. However, the successful implementation of machine learning to analyze and make predictions based on academic data highly depends on the quality and readability of the data. To fully harness the potential of machine learning, careful preprocessing of academic data is essential. This research aims to design and implement preprocessing techniques, that is imputation, winsorizing, and dropping data on academic data. To handle missing values, the Multivariate Imputation by Chained Equation method is used with three different algorithms, linear regression, random forest, and KNN, and then the accuracy of these three algorithms in predicting missing values is compared. Additionally, winsorizing method is applied to outliers and data duplication is addressed by dropping duplicate data. Based on the testing results through evaluation metrics, these preprocessing techniques can improve model accuracy by 0.037 for MAE, 0.11 for RMSE, and 0.006 for MSE. The processed data allows the model to function more optimally and produce more reliable results.

Abstract

The roofing tile industry in Karanggeneng Village, Boyolali Regency, remains dependent on conventional firing systems using firewood, resulting in low thermal efficiency, unstable temperature distribution, inconsistent product quality, and relatively high carbon emissions. These limitations reduce production efficiency and hinder the competitiveness of small-scale roofing tile enterprises. This community service program aimed to empower local roofing tile craftsmen through the implementation of an electric furnace equipped with an insulated heating chamber, multi-level product racks, a controlled electrical heating system, and an operational training program. The program was conducted using a participatory approach consisting of problem identification, system design, prototype fabrication, installation, equipment handover, technical training, operational assistance, and evaluation. The implementation successfully produced an operational furnace prototype that provides more controlled heating conditions while improving craftsmen's understanding of equipment operation, electrical safety, and energy management. The collaboration between Universitas Sebelas Maret and community partners also strengthened knowledge transfer and technology adoption within the local industry. This community service contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 by enhancing community competencies through technical education and training, and SDG 17 by strengthening partnerships among universities, local communities, and stakeholders to support sustainable industrial transformation.
