Abstract

Abstract

Since decentralisation was implemented in Indonesia, more detailed information about the condition of an area becomes very necessary to know as an evaluation of development that the government has done. the success development of a region can be seen through the Human Development Index (HDI). HDI consists of three basic dimensions, knowledge as one of that three basic measured by the index of education. This index is measured by the Adult Literacy Rate and Mean Years of Schooling. Education is one of the important factors in improving human development. The enhancement of education index results in increasing the HDI of an area. Purwakarta has a vision that is made as a district that excels in education in West Java, but until now Purwakarta’s education index is still below the West Java province. One step that can be done is to seek information on the education index each district in Purwakarta, with the aim to provide the right policy in each region. Direct estimation of the components forming the HDI for districts is not feasible because these estimates will generate a great value of variance, This is due to the size of the sample used is too small. This study proposes a statistical method by performing the estimation using small area estimation. These estimates using information from surrounding areas that can improve the effectiveness of the sample size and the lower the standard error. Some surveys are conducted regularly every year, in conducting indirect estimation in the survey such as this, efficiency of estimating education index for district level can be improved by including the random effect of the area as well as the random effect of time (Sadik and Notodipuro, 2006). So in this study will be used Empirical Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (EBLUP) by combining the time series and cross-section data for estimating the education index at the level of districts in Purwakarta. The direct estimation of education index produce a larger variance than our methode, it shown by comparing mean square error (MSE) of direct method and indirect method, direct method have the largest MSE.Key words : Indirect Estimation, Small Area Estimator, EBLUP, Time Series and Cross-Section, HDI, Education Index.

Abstract

Mangroves are important ecosystems that help prevent global warming by storing carbon. A study in Alas Purwo National Park aimed to identify the species diversity and estimate the market value of total carbon from each mangrove species. The study used field sampling and diversity indexes. The study found that the study area has high diversity, with Shannon-Weiner, Margalef, and Pielou's Indexes of H' = 2.276, J = 0.949, and R = 1.453, respectively. Rhizophora apiculata was the dominant species with Above-Ground Carbon (AGC) and Below-Ground Carbon (BGC) stocks of about 34.73 Mg C Ha-1 and an economic value of $1,605, the highest among other species. The results of this study can help improve our understanding of the role of mangrove characteristics for both ecology and the economy.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a key commodity in aquaculture due to its high survival rate, short cultivation period, and disease resistance. Water quality plays a crucial role in shrimp growth and productivity, particularly in intensive farming systems. This study aims to analyze the effects of water quality dynamics (pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen) on shrimp growth, measured through Average Body Weight (ABW) and Specific Growth Rate (SGR). Multiple linear regression analysis was employed, but given the time-series nature of water quality data, the assumption of non-autocorrelation was violated. To address this issue, the Cochrane-Orcutt method was applied to obtain efficient parameter estimates and valid hypothesis testing results. The findings indicate that temperature significantly affects ABW and SGR (p < 0.05), while pH and dissolved oxygen do not show a significant partial effect. The simultaneous F-test confirms that these three water quality variables collectively influence shrimp growth. The Durbin-Watson test revealed autocorrelation in the initial model, which was resolved through the Cochrane-Orcutt method. The final regression model demonstrated improved estimation accuracy without autocorrelation. This study highlights that temperature is the primary factor influencing vannamei shrimp growth, while pH and dissolved oxygen play supporting roles in maintaining an optimal environment. Furthermore, the Cochrane-Orcutt method proved effective in addressing autocorrelation, ensuring more accurate analysis results that can guide the management of intensive vannamei shrimp farming

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp is one of Indonesia's leading aquaculture sector commodities due to its high survival rate, short cultivation time, and disease resistance. Vannamei shrimp cultivation in Indonesia adopts an intensive system favoured for high productivity. In intensive cultivation systems, shrimp ponds typically utilize concrete or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) ponds. Each type has its own positive and negative side that affects the growth and production of Vannamei shrimp. Apart from the type of pond, water quality also played an important role in the growth of Vannamei shrimp. Water quality is one of the important factors in intensive shrimp cultivation. Pond type is categorical data and has a nominal measurement scale, while water quality is numerical data with a ratio measurement scale; ordinary regression analysis is unsuitable for analyzing the effect of pond type and water quality on the growth of Vannamei shrimp. Therefore, a dummy regression model accommodates these measurement scale differences. This research aims to determine the effect of different types of ponds and water quality dynamics on the growth of Vannamei shrimp and to select the best type of pond for intensive cultivation of Vannamei shrimp. Additionally, it aims to identify the water quality parameters that most influence the growth of Vannamei shrimp so that it can serve as a reference for Vannamei shrimp farmers to achieve high productivity efficiently. The study was conducted from November 2022 to January 2023 in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia. There are three concrete ponds and 10 HDPE ponds. The research method employed in this study is a survey method utilizing simple random sampling. The parameters in this research are the quality of cultivation water, including pH, temperature and dissolved oxygen (DO). The water samples taken are then measured for water quality in the laboratory. The results of this study indicate that the average values for water quality are still within the optimal range. The average ABW in HDPE and concrete ponds ranges from 2.30 to 9.39 grams per shrimp and 2.22-9.73 grams per shrimp.  Based on the study's results, it can be concluded that different pond types and water quality dynamics, specifically pH and temperature, affect shrimp growth based on ABW. However, when considering SGR values, the type of pond does not have a significant impact. The water quality parameters that affect SGR are pH and temperature.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp are cultured biota that are very vulnerable to the surrounding environment. Water quality conditions that are not ideal can cause shrimp to experience stress and inhibit their growth. This study aimed to determine the appropriate dose of fermented rice bran and EM4 as probiotics based on their impact on improving the water quality of vannamei shrimp culture ponds. This study was conducted by applying 3 different treatments consisting of control, treatment 1 with fermented rice bran dose of 25 g and EM4 10 ml and treatment 2 with fermented rice bran dose of 50 g and EM4 20 ml. Seven water quality parameters were measured, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, and phosphate. The results showed that the water quality conditions of shrimp ponds were quite ideal and treatment 1 with a fermentation dose of 25 g rice bran and 10 ml EM4 was consistently superior in improving water quality conditions compared to other treatments.
