Abstract

In the postnatal period, mothers face the challenge of adjusting to new roles and responsibilities, which can lead to increased stress and a risk of developing postpartum depression. This study explores the relationship between maternal characteristics, family functioning, social support, infant health, and postpartum depression. Data were obtained through a Family Function (Fungsi-Ga) questionnaire, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) from 150 mothers of three-month-old babies. The analysis was conducted using uses PLS-SEM (Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model). The research results show that the model of postnatal depression formed is fit (goodness of fit .252). Social support has direct (β= -.170) and indirect negative effects on postnatal depression through family functioning and babies’ health (β= -.186). The family function has a direct negative effect (β= -.395) and an indirect one through babies’ health on postnatal depression (β= -.280), while babies’ health has a negative effect on such depression (β= -.301). The results of the research imply that education for mothers on social support, family functioning, and how to care for newborns, which helps ensure that babies’ health is optimal, is critical in reducing the risk of postnatal depression, especially in the first three postnatal months.

Abstract

In Indonesia, there are still many children who are cared for inappropriately, such as neglect and violence against children, toddlers receive inappropriate care (3.69%), and toddlers experience developmental disorders (16%), both fine and gross motor development, hearing and intelligence loss, and speech delay. The child's condition cannot grow and develop optimally. The research aims to analyze the influence of the parenting practice educational model on the knowledge and growth of children under five. The educational model implemented is the result of previous survey research, so it is more appropriate to conditions in the field. This research used a pre-experimental design in Bogor City on June-August 2023 with 40 respondents. Sample criteria are mothers who have children aged 12-60 months. There were 20 people in each intervention and control group. The intervention was given seven times face to face for seven weeks. The independent variable is the educational model of caring for mothers, and the dependent variable is knowledge of caring for mothers, growth, and toddlers. The results of the Mann-Whitney test showed that there was difference in the median post-test score between the intervention and control groups in the growth variables of 5.5 points (p0.003<0.05), development of 6 points (p0.005<0.05), and knowledge of parenting practices of 10 points (p0.006 < 0.05). These data show a significant influence between the model of implementing parenting education on growth and toddlers and parenting knowledge. More education needs to be done on parenting using various media to improve the growth and development of toddlers.

Data collection was carried out on March 18, 2022, using the Pro-Quest, Tailor and Francis, Emerald, Sage Pub, and Science Direct databases. Based on this study's exclusion and inclusion criteria, there were 19 studies included in this paper. The analysis results show that most of the included studies prove that socioeconomic status affects children's wellbeing, while one study showed that there is no effect. Abstract
