Abstract

The environment, including family and peer interactions, can influence the level of aggressiveness in adolescents. This quantitative study aims to analyze the influence of parental attachment and peer interaction on adolescent aggressive behavior in Bogor. The study involved 115 respondents from grade 10 at the Bina Bangsa Sejahtera Islamic High School, consisting of 68 male students (59%) and 47 female students (41%), aged between 13-18 years. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using statistical correlation and multiple regression tests with SPSS 26. The results show that secure parental attachment is associated with lower adolescent aggression, while insecure attachment positively correlates with higher aggression. Peer interaction, including relationships and bonds with friends, and variables like school conditions, significantly impact adolescent aggressive behavior. These findings indicate that parental and school roles can help prevent aggressive behavior in adolescents. Therefore, it is essential to educate parents, teachers, and adolescents on maintaining healthy parental relationships, fostering positive peer interactions, and understanding the dangers of aggressive behavior. Government involvement is also needed to support the development of such programs.

Abstract

Long-distance marriages conducted by street vendors impact financial management, including financial recording, the ability to save, and the wife's role in economic management. In addition, interactions and communication are also affected by conflicts due to work demands and lack of communication. This study analyzes marriage quality and financial management among street vendors in families who undergo long-distance marriage. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a purposive sampling technique. The participants in this study amounted to three husbands who worked as street vendors and had long-distance marriages, as well as five people from various walks of life. This research was conducted in Bogor City from April to May 2022. Data collection techniques were observation and semi-structured interviews with data analysis, including reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that most street vendors experienced difficulties managing finances due to limited knowledge, but marriage quality has been maintained over the years. Long distance reduces the frequency of conflict, and the mutual acceptance of long-distance conditions before marriage makes married couples understand and respect each other. The conclusion of this study suggests the importance of external support and financial education for street vendors to improve marriage quality and financial management.

Abstract

Parenting style has been highlighted as one of the causes of depressive symptoms and also influences adolescent self-esteem. Although many studies have investigated the effect of self-esteem on depression, few have considered its role as a mediator variable. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the direct effect of parenting style on adolescent depression and its indirect effect on self-esteem. An online survey was completed voluntarily by 555 respondents from four senior high schools in Bekasi, Indonesia. The Patient Health Questionnaire, Parental Authority Questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, and Path-SPSS analysis were employed to prove the hypothesis. The results show a significant direct effect of parenting [authoritative (β = -.257, p < .01), authoritarian (β = .181, p < .01) and permissive (β = .109, p < .01)] on depression. In addition, there is an indirect effect of authoritative (β = -.182, p < .01) and authoritarian (β = .055, p < .01) parenting styles on depression as mediated by self-esteem. The study indicates the importance of positive parenting and the building of adolescents' self-esteem to avoid the risk of depression.

Abstract

In the postnatal period, mothers face the challenge of adjusting to new roles and responsibilities, which can lead to increased stress and a risk of developing postpartum depression. This study explores the relationship between maternal characteristics, family functioning, social support, infant health, and postpartum depression. Data were obtained through a Family Function (Fungsi-Ga) questionnaire, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) from 150 mothers of three-month-old babies. The analysis was conducted using uses PLS-SEM (Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model). The research results show that the model of postnatal depression formed is fit (goodness of fit .252). Social support has direct (β= -.170) and indirect negative effects on postnatal depression through family functioning and babies’ health (β= -.186). The family function has a direct negative effect (β= -.395) and an indirect one through babies’ health on postnatal depression (β= -.280), while babies’ health has a negative effect on such depression (β= -.301). The results of the research imply that education for mothers on social support, family functioning, and how to care for newborns, which helps ensure that babies’ health is optimal, is critical in reducing the risk of postnatal depression, especially in the first three postnatal months.
