Abstract

Based on laboratory tests of ammonia and phosphate concentrations in coffee wastewater from coffee factory in Semarang, the concentrations were found to be 8.55 and 1.01 mg/L, respectively. These high concentrations negatively impact fish farming production. Nymphaea pubescens has shown potential in remediating ammonia and phosphate concentrations in coffee wastewater. Therefore, the objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of lotus phytoremediation (Nymphaea pubescens) in reducing ammonia and phosphate concentrations in coffee wastewater. The research method employed is true experiment with Completely Randomized Design, involving four treatments and three replications. According to ANOVA and Duncan's Multiple Range Test results, Nymphaea pubescens significantly reduced ammonia and phosphate concentrations in coffee wastewater. So far there have been no specific studies on the phytoremediation of Nymphaea pubescens for ammonia and phosphate concentrations in coffee wastewater, making this study a novel contribution. The findings suggest that this approach should be widely implemented, especially within educational settings and communities.

Abstract

Malabot Tumpe is local wisdom which has the meaning of realizing the 15th SDG goal in the conservation of maleo birds. Concepts such as ecosystem balance and biodiversity, which are reflected in Malabot Tumpe traditional practices, indicate the potential for Malabot Tumpe in integrating biology learning material, especially biodiversity material. The integration of values or knowledge from local wisdom containing ESD can be integrated into biology learning through e-modules. However, so far, there has been no research that specifically discusses the integration of Malabot Tumpe local wisdom, which contains sustainable conservation values, into biology learning. For this reason, the author aims to reveal the potential of e-modules containing Malabot Tumpe local wisdom as a form of implementing ESD in extracurricular biology learning activities in schools. The method used was a systematic literature review with a sample of 12 international and national articles. The result of this study is that there is potential for an E-module containing Malabot Tumpe local wisdom to not only help students achieve learning goals but also help sustainably preserve biodiversity. However, further research is needed to empirically measure the effectiveness of the Malabot Tumpe ethnobiology e-module and its impact on ESD to achieve sustainable biodiversity.Abstrak. Abstract

Margolinduk Village is one of the coastal villages on the north coast of Central Java which is worst affected by the tidal floods in Demak Regency. The various losses felt by the people of Margolinduk Village due to tidal floods have not reduced the resilience of the people to stay put. So that various handling efforts are deployed by the community in order to survive. However, so far there has been no research that examines the strategies of the Margolinduk Village community in dealing with tidal floods. Therefore, this research aims to find out the strategies used by the Margolinduk Village community in dealing with tidal floods and the implications for attitudes toward caring for the environment. Community efforts to deal with tidal floods should lead to concern for the environment. However, this attitude of caring for the environment must be proven by measuring indicators of caring for the environment. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The number of samples used in this research was 30 people taken by purposive sampling. The Margolinduk Village community's strategy for dealing with tidal floods is by raising house buildings and looking for other alternative jobs. Even though the education level of the people of Margolinduk Village is still relatively low, the attitude of caring for the environment of the people of Margolinduk Village is in the very good category. Thus, what is found in this research is that attitudes that care about the environment do not always arise because of the knowledge taught at school. Direct experiences or individual impacts due to tidal floods have deep emotional and practical dimensions, thus playing a crucial role in shaping changes in attitudes and behavior towards greater environmental awareness.

Abstract

Research skills are an essential competencies in biology education, particularly in understanding environmental changes topic. One crucial aspect of this topic is the effort to maintain the quality of natural resources, including clean water, which aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. However, there is currently no specific instrument designed to assess students’ research skills, especially in the context of environmental change related to clean water and sanitation. Therefore, this study aims to develop a multiple-choice research skills assessment instrument. The development process followed the 4D model, which includes the stages of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to evaluate the validity, reliability, and feasibility of the instrument, and the results were interpreted to determine the instrument’s effectiveness in assessing students’ research skills. Expert validation results indicate that the instrument has a feasibility score of 82.55%. A field trial involving 63 students revealed that out of 26 test items, 13 were accepted, 5 required revision and 8 were rejected based on validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discrimination index analyses. Overall, the instrument is valid, reliable, and effective in measuring students’ research skills. Future research is recommended to develop more contextually relevant instruments that better reflect students’ research skills in addressing real-world challenges. Additionally, further validation in broader educational settings is necessary to ensure the instrument’s effectiveness across various instructional methods.

Abstract

Habits of mind is one of the dimensions of long-term learning that allow productive actions to occur and can produce positive student character in solving problems in their lives. The importance of habits of mind is in contrast to the ability of habits of mind of students in one of the high schools in Bandung City which is still low. Based on this, the researcher aims to analyze the biology learning process carried out by teachers to further understand the factors that influence students' habits of mind. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive. The sample was chosen using convenience sampling, so that 34 samples were obtained from class X students and biology teacher at one of the state high schools in Bandung City. The research results show that the low level of students' habits of mind is because teacher has not implemented how to develop students' habits of mind in classroom learning. Differentiated learning, student centers, reflection activities, and learning independence in using resources are the next researchers' recommendations for interventions to improve students' habits of mind.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasize quality education and environmental protection.  Biodiversity education in Phase E requires students to solve problems related to biodiversity. However, complex terminology and limited learning tools create challenges. This research aims to analyze effective learning strategies for teaching biodiversity using a TPACK framework. The method used in this research is a literature review carried out systematically by PRISMA. The analysis will map pedagogical approaches, content based on CoRes analysis, and technological aspects. Findings will inform the development of effective learning strategies for high school biodiversity education, contributing to achieving SDGs, particularly SDG 15 on terrestrial ecosystems. The finding shows that The use of CoRes to narrow down the information is required to instruct students and promote the attainment of the 15th SDG goal. Based on the findings of the analysis, the pedagogical review of the approach used, namely local wisdom, the field trip method, and the discovery learning model, as well as the use of technology to assist students in identifying PlantNet, Picture This, and iNaturalist, is considered effective to be implemented in learning biodiversity material.

Abstract

The significance of habits of mind in achieving student success was contrasted with the low level of students' habits of mind in biology learning. TPACK is a 21st-century learning approach that has the potential to improve students' habits of mind. However, this was not followed by biology teachers' mastery of TPACK, which was relatively low. So far, there has been no research that examines the role of TPACK on students' habits of mind in biology learning. This paper aims to find out the potential and implementation of TPACK-based biology learning in improving students' habits of mind. The method used was a Systematic literature review with 20 sample international and national articles. Access to digital resources enriches students' ideas and supports the development of critical thinking, creativity, and self-regulation skills. In this way, teachers are expected to not only increase their knowledge of content and pedagogy but also integrate technology into learning, allowing students to gain more meaningful knowledge. The form of implementing this technology integration can be in the form of learning media or learning assessments. What was found in this writing is that students' habits of mind can be formed through classroom learning, one of which is the TPACK approach. Recommendations for choosing more diverse biological material were also proposed in this paper so that learning becomes more dynamic, contextual, and then students' habits of mind are achieved.
