Abstract

Family planning programmes are not optimal for Muslim women; this is inseparable from the view that contraception is controversial in Islamic teachings. This study aims to examine the influence of the ideal number of children, the role of husbands, the desired last child, and the type of contraception in Muslim women of childbearing age from the perspective of Islam and health. This study used data from the 2017 IDHS in Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, West Java, Central Java, and East Java on 5797 Muslim women from January to December 2022. The results of this study showed a significant association between the ideal number of boys (p<0.001; PR = 1.332), number of daughters (p<0.001; PR = 1.289), husbands who decide (p=0.004), and contraceptive types (p<0.001; PR = 1.205) with family planning use. The family planning use is influenced by factors such as gender preference, joint decision-making, and the type of contraceptive used. Modern contraceptives are more effective and reliable, suggesting a trend toward modern methods for family planning.

Meanwhile, secondary data was obtained from the annual report of the Dompet Dhuafa North Sumatra Zakat institution. The research population was 1896 Mustahiq in 2023. Using Slovin's formula, the sample size was 330 mustahiq. The analysis technique used in this study is the IPI model. Findings – The findings of this study demonstrate that the IPI model is applicable for assessing the performance of amil zakat institutions in enhancing the welfare of mustahiq. Nevertheless, in this study, the augmentation of material income is negligible, specifically, 25 mustahiq among 330 respondents. The increase in mustahiq religiosity significantly after acquiring zakat, infaq, and sadaqah, encompassing 316 mustahiq individuals. Implications – This research makes an important contribution to the literature on sharia-based zakat management by introducing the IPI model as a more holistic and integrated evaluation tool. On the practical side, the findings of this research provide valuable guidance for zakat institutions in designing more impactful and sustainable mustahiq empowerment programs.

Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the concept of Islamic education, the characteristics of Generation Z, the digital era and its influence on Islamic education, and the transformation of Islamic educational values in Generation Z. This paper uses a qualitative approach. Data were collected through library research. The findings indicate that the Islamic identity of Generation Z is increasingly shaped by digital technology. The transformation of Islamic educational values in this generation influenced by technological development, which alters educational patterns, learning strategies, and the role of social media in transmitting values. Challenges arise in this process, including the dominance of social media, identity crises, lack of role models, and religious education that is less adaptive to modern contexts. Despite these challenges, digitalization also offers valuable opportunities. Technology can support da’wah, the formation of virtual Islamic communities, and the production of creative content that reflects the lifestyle of Generation Z. These methods are effective in instilling Islamic values within the rapid flow of digital information. Moreover, this situation provides an opportunity to strengthen spirituality through technology, which aligns with the goals of Islamic education: to form individuals who are faithful, pious, and noble in character. The core values of Islamic education, moral, intellectual, remain vital in shaping holistic individuals who can contribute positively to society. Adaptations such as digital learning materials, online and hybrid models, and social media as educational platforms demonstrate the urgency of digital transformation to ensure Islamic education remains relevant to the future needs of Generation Z.
