Abstract

The Cumbok incident occurred in Aceh between Ulama and Uleebalang. Since Dutch colonialism, these two groups of people have always been at odds. The Uleebalang group has long been considered to be opposing the struggle of Acehnese ulama and mujahideen fighters against the threat of Dutch colonialism. This background pushed the Cumbok war into a major war which as a result changed the social order of Acehnese society. This research is historical research with a political approach by conducting historical investigations. Examining the events of the Cumbok War and the impact of social change of the war is the research objective. This research methodology is a literature review that utilizes various reference sources. The socio-political situation of Aceh after Indonesian independence, the process of the Cumbok War and an analysis of the impact of the Cumbok War on the transition of Acehnese society will be presented in this article.

Abstract

The Sub-district Election Supervisory Committee (Panwascam) is one of the important instruments that will determine the quality of the election process at the sub-district level. This service was carried out because, based on experience from the implementation of previous elections, there are still Panwascam members who do not carry out their duties, authorities, and obligations as stipulated in the laws and regulations. Therefore, it is important to do community service in the form of Technical Guidance (Bimtek) with the implementer of Panwaslih Nagan Raya and present the author as a resource person. The lecture method, the use of laptops and LCD media to display power point material regarding the duties, powers, and obligations of Panwascam based on Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General elections, and tips for becoming a successful Panwascam. The results achieved through this community service activity are: First, Panwascam in Nagan Raya Regency as election supervisors in the sub-district area have an understanding of their duties, authorities, and obligations and are successful in carrying out supervision in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections. Second, to motivate Panwascam in Nagan Raya Regency to be able to carry out election supervision in the sub-district area in a direct, general, free, confidential, honest, and fair manner. Third, in the future, it is necessary to hold regular technical guidance for Panwascam with the theme of general supervision and supervision of each stage of the Election, so that the task of supervising the Simultaneous Election in 2024 will be better, stronger, and more effective.

Abstract

The Acehnese people have been carrying out the religious practice of reciting the Qur’an at the gravesites for generations. This research aims at determining the practice of reciting the Qur’an at the gravesites, current practices, perspectives, shifting factors, and opinions of Islamic school’s scholars. This research employed observation, interviews, and documentation as its instruments. The gained data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the practice of reciting the Qur’an at gravesites is a ritual carried out by some people at the gravesites individually and in groups. People carry out the current practice of reciting the Qur’an at gravesites starting from three days, seven days, and ten days and nights. They also pay wages to members who recite the Qur’an at the gravesites. Additionally, women continue reciting the Qur’an during Friday prayers to ensure uninterrupted reciting. The perspectives of ordinary people are that reciting the Qur’an at the gravesites symbolizes a form of affection for the deceased's family. Meanwhile, academicians argue that reciting the Qur’an at gravesites is a social phenomenon to continue pre-existing traditions and to maintain sacred values in every religious ritual. Modernists argue that reciting the Qur’an at the gravesites does not need to be a tradition because apart from having no strong basis, the sins of someone who has died are not borne by other people. Meanwhile, scholars argue that reciting the Qur’an at gravesites is recommended in Islamic teachings to pray for the deceased, even if other people recite it. The shifting factors happened because the influence of local culture and foreign culture that people follow the developments of times besides increasing income for people who are invited to recite the Qur’an. Meanwhile, the Imāms of the school of thought argue according to the postulates that reciting the Qur’an at a gravesites is makruh and something that is sunnah, however, if it is done intending to send prayers to the deceased, it is then recommended because it can ease the torment in the graves and get rewards for both those who recite and those who listen to the reciting of the Qur’anic verses.
