Abstract

This study seeks to examine the effects of risk management strategies on the success of construction projects in Myanmar, a country with a rapidly expanding construction industry that has received little scholarly attention. Using a combination of traditional paper-based surveys and online questionnaires, a comprehensive dataset has been compiled for this study. The participants, which included project managers, project engineers, safety engineers, financial experts, and project proprietors, played a crucial role in providing diverse perspectives. From the initial sample of 500 questionnaires, a response rate of 84.6 percent yielded 397 valid responses. Using Smart PLS as a data analysis instrument, the study deconstructed risk management into its fundamental components: identification, analysis, response, and monitoring. In addition to the immediate effects, the study reveals the intermediate roles played by financial performance and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) issues. The findings indicate a correlation between the implementation of effective risk management strategies and the overall success of construction projects. The intermediate effect of financial performance and HSE performance strengthens the relationship between these variables. This research offers significant academic and practical insights by providing evidence-based strategies to improve risk management practices in Myanmar's rapidly developing construction industry.

Abstract

Background: The Governor's Residence in Yangon, Myanmar, is a historical icon embodying the city's colonial past and architectural heritage. As urbanization and environmental challenges mount, redefining such heritage sites through sustainable practices becomes imperative. Methods: This study employed a qualitative research approach, integrating historical analysis, field observations, and stakeholder interviews. Data were gathered from archival records, peer-reviewed literature, and architectural site visits. Comparative analysis with similar heritage conservation projects in Southeast Asia provided additional insights. Findings: By employing eco-conscious architectural restoration, integrating renewable energy systems, and fostering community engagement, the residence can maintain its historical integrity while contributing to environmental stewardship. Additionally, adaptive reuse and educational initiatives can ensure its cultural and social relevance in the 21st century. Conclusion: The proposed approach underscores the importance of balancing historical preservation with sustainable modernization, offering a replicable framework for a heritage site. Novelty/Originality of the Study: This study introduces a novel approach to heritage conservation, combining eco-conscious restoration, renewable energy integration, and community engagement to transform a colonial-era structure into a sustainable cultural landmark. The findings present a replicable model for other historical sites facing similar urbanization and environmental challenges.

Abstract

The digital transformation of education, accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, has spurred widespread adoption of e-learning platforms globally, with Learning Management Systems (LMS) at the forefront. Despite the enhanced communication channels they offer, LMS implementation can introduce unique challenges in the educational arena. This study explores the impact of LMS on the learning process in Myanmar's education system from a student's perspective, focusing on five key factors: convenience, emotional engagement, technological barriers, assessment effectiveness, and cost. A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed to students who had used an LMS, with 264 valid responses received. These were analyzed using SPSS software, revealing significant correlations between all five factors and the learning process, with assessment effectiveness demonstrating the strongest relationship. The results provide valuable insights into how LMS can be optimized to support the learning process in the context of Myanmar's education system, indicating a need for educators and LMS developers to consider these factors for more effective e-learning experiences.
