Abstract

There are still many instances of natural resource management that fail to provide benefits and, in fact, often harm the community. The potential of Indonesia's natural resources, which should be utilized for the prosperity and welfare of the people, remains far from that expectation. Therefore, this research aims to propose the concept of Hassan Hanafi's anthropocentric theology to be implemented in managing and utilizing natural resources to improve community welfare. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach. This research indicates that Hassan Hanafi's anthropocentric theology is relevant to natural resource management. Through the attribute of wujud, there is an awareness of the abundant potential of natural resources. Through the attribute of qidam, past mistakes regarding environmental destruction due to excessive resource exploitation are highlighted. Through the attribute of baqa, there is an awareness of the need to preserve and care for nature to ensure sustainability for future use. Through the attribute of mukhalafah lil hawadits, individuals are encouraged to be creative and innovative in utilizing natural resources. The attribute of qiyamuhu bi nafsih fosters independence without external intervention. Lastly, through the attribute of wahdaniyah, there is an awareness of the importance of unity and synergy in managing natural resources.

Abstract

This research stems from the issue of mooring fees at Cilacap Ocean Fisheries Port, which are considered burdensome for the fishermen. Regulation of the Central Government Number 85 of 2021 has triggered several protests as a form of resistance by the fishermen. This is because the government policy has disadvantaged them. As a result of this harmful policy, the fishermen did not remain passive but have repeatedly resisted the policy. Based on this issue, this study aims to identify the forms of resistance against the mooring fees at Cilacap Ocean Fisheries Port that are burdensome to the fishermen. To analyze these forms of resistance, the study uses James Scott's theory of resistance. The research employs a qualitative method with two types of research: literature review and field research through a case study approach. The research findings show that covert forms of resistance, such as gossiping, informal gatherings among fishermen, and the withdrawal of respect from the government, are more dominant or frequently practiced. This is because fishermen find it easier to meet and gather whenever they want. In contrast, overt resistance such as demonstrations, petition signings, and public hearings require the mobilization of masses and various preparations, making them less frequently carried out. Although overt resistance is less commonly practiced than covert resistance, it tends to be more effective in helping fishermen oppose Government Regulation No. 85 of 2021. Through overt resistance such as demonstrations, petition signings, and public hearings, the aspirations of the fishermen become more audible to the government, particularly the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of Cilacap Regency and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. Although the regulation has not yet been amended, at the very least, the fishermen's aspirations have been conveyed through this form of overt resistance. Therefore, James Scott's theory of resistance is highly relevant in examining the fishermen's resistance to the mooring fees at Cilacap Ocean Fisheries Port.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the increasing divorce rate each year. Therefore, the researcher offers an alternative solution by examining Abu Yazid al-Bustami's concept of ittihad to achieve marital longevity in family life. One of the objectives of marriage in Islam is to create a family characterized by sakinnah (tranquility), mawaddah (love), and rahmah (compassion). Thus, Abu Yazid al-Bustami's concept of ittihad is highly relevant for implementation in marital relationships. By doing so, the ultimate purpose of marriage as envisioned in Islam can be realized. This study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach. The research procedure begins by collecting various literary sources on Abu Yazid al-Bustami's concept of ittihad, which are then analyzed by contextualizing and implementing them to achieve marital longevity in family life. The results of this study reveal that Abu Yazid al-Bustami's concept of ittihad consists of three phases: fana, baqa, and the culmination, ittihad. The implementation of fana involves eliminating ego in both partners. The implementation of baqa is reflected in ongoing togetherness based on mutual loyalty and commitment. Finally, the implementation of ittihad itself signifies unity, a deep spiritual bond between the partners that becomes inseparable. Consequently, marital longevity in family life can be achieved.

Abstract

The present article examines the influence of the thought of KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) on the formation of postcolonial discourse in the context of Islam Nusantara. In the postcolonial context, the Islamic construction of the Archipelago is inextricably linked to colonial epistemological legacies and the hegemony of external cultures, particularly Arabic. Gus Dur’s thought process can be understood as a deconstructive effort against the dichotomy between “pure” and “local” Islam that was created by colonial powers and puritan movements. It is evident that Gus Dur’s rejection of the uniformity of Arab culture as the sole representation of Islam was underpinned by a sharp critique of arabisation. As an alternative, he proffered the concept of Islamic pribumisation, defined as the adjustment of Islamic expression to local cultural values without sacrificing the substance of the teachings. Furthermore, Gus Dur placed significant emphasis on the necessity of contextualising Islamic teachings, emphasising the importance of re-evaluating Islamic values in accordance with the prevailing social and cultural dynamics of Indonesian society. It is asserted that an approach of this nature will engender the concepts of pluralism and tolerance, which will in turn serve as the primary foundations upon which religious life is to be constructed. The present study employs a qualitative approach, utilising critical discourse analysis of Gus Dur’s ideas and relevant supporting literature. The findings demonstrate that Gus Dur’s thought plays a significant role in formulating the paradigm of Islam Nusantara. This paradigm is characterised by its responsiveness to local realities, its transcendence of religious formalism, and its rehabilitation of cultural dignity as an integral part of Islamic expression. Consequently, the thought of Gus Dur constitutes a significant contribution to the development of a plural, humanist and contextual Islamic civilisation.

Abstract

The phenomenon of hedonism has been observed to engender a state of spiritual emptiness among Generation Z. However, this condition can be overcome through a spiritual approach, one of which is zuhud. The present study aims to identify the forms of hedonism among Generation Z and to explore the potential of zuhud as a solution to this problem. The present study employs a qualitative methodology, underpinned by a comprehensive literature review. The data sources for this study were drawn from various relevant literature sources, including books, journal articles, social media news, and other information sources. The results of the study indicate that Generation Z tends to consume luxury goods, engage in expensive treatments, and spend money to enhance digital experiences, such as online games and streaming platforms. Al-Ghazali’s concept of zuhd emphasises a balance between worldly and spiritual needs. The term zuhd is not to be equated with the idea of complete worldly withdrawal, but rather denotes the application of judicious worldly practices in conjunction with spiritual anchoring to Allah. The study’s findings suggest that the implementation of the zuhd concept can assist Generation Z in re-establishing spiritual values, thereby facilitating a more harmonious balance between worldly and afterlife concerns.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang pemikiran humanisme Ali Syari’ati dalam konteks keberpihakan mahasiswa kepada masyarakat kelas bawah, dengan menafsirkan QS. Ibrahim ayat 4. Syari’ati mengkritisi konsep humanisme Barat (liberalisme, marxisme, dan eksistensialisme) yang dianggapnya terlalu materialistis dan tidak memperhitungkan dimensi spiritual manusia. Sebaliknya, ia menawarkan humanisme berbasis tauhid yang menekankan peran manusia sebagai wakil Tuhan di bumi, dengan tugas utama membebaskan kaum tertindas dari belenggu sosial dan struktural. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka, menganalisis karya-karya Ali Syari’ati dan literatur pendukung lainnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep humanisme Ali Syari’ati mendorong mahasiswa untuk berperan sebagai rausyan fikr (intelektual yang tercerahkan) yang aktif dalam perubahan sosial. Keberpihakan mahasiswa kepada masyarakat kelas bawah harus diwujudkan dalam bentuk advokasi, pemberdayaan, dan tindakan nyata yang berlandaskan pada nilai-nilai agama dan etika. Dengan memahami humanisme Ali Syari’ati, mahasiswa dapat mengembangkan kesadaran kritis dan bertindak sebagai agen perubahan yang berkontribusi pada keadilan sosial. Artikel ini menegaskan bahwa berpihak pada yang tertindas bukan sekadar pilihan moral, tetapi juga bagian dari tanggung jawab intelektual dan spiritual.

Abstract

The capacity to memorise plays a pivotal role in Islamic educational tradition, particularly in the preservation of the authenticity of teachings through the transmission of the Qur’an and hadith. In the literary work Ta’lim al-Muta’allim, composed by al-Zarnuji, a seminal text in its field, a range of methodologies is presented for the purpose of enhancing memory. These methodologies encompass a variety of approaches, including diligent study, augmented worship, and the ingestion of specific substances such as honey, kundar, and red wine. The present study aims to examine these methods scientifically in order to determine their relevance to contemporary findings. Utilising a literature review and content analysis approach, this study examines the text of the book Ta’lim al-Muta’allim and compares it with the results of recent scientific research in the fields of cognitive science and health. The findings of the study demonstrate that the methods employed to enhance memory in the book can be categorised into three distinct classifications. Firstly, there is a need to acknowledge the scientific methods that have been proven to be effective. Such methods include diligent study, increasing worship, and consuming honey. Secondly, methods with potential scientific validity, such as the consumption of kundar and red wine, which have shown positive results in some preliminary studies, are also recommended. Thirdly, there are methods that have yet to be scientifically validated. These include the use of a miswak, reducing food intake, and consuming foods that reduce phlegm. These findings suggest that some of the classical educational heritage in the book remains relevant and can be integrated with modern scientific approaches. Consequently, al-Zarnuji’s treatise is not only spiritually valuable but also has the potential to contribute to the development of contemporary learning methods.

Abstract

This research discusses Ali Shari’ati’s humanism thinking in the context of students’ alignment with the lower classes, by interpreting QS. Ibrahim verse 4. Syari’ati criticised the concept of Western humanism (liberalism, marxism and existentialism) which he considered too materialistic and did not take into account the spiritual dimension of man. Instead, he offers a tawhid-based humanism that emphasises man’s role as God’s representative on earth, with the main task of freeing the oppressed from social and structural shackles. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach, analysing Ali Shari’ati’s works and other supporting literature. The results show that Ali Shari’ati’s concept of humanism encourages students to act as rausyan fikr (enlightened intellectuals) who are active in social change. Student’s alignment with the lower society must be manifested in the form of advocacy, empowerment, and real action based on religious and ethical values. By understanding Ali Shari’ati’s humanism, students can develop critical awareness and act as agents of change who contribute to social justice. This article asserts that siding with the oppressed is not just a moral choice, but also part of intellectual and spiritual responsibility.
