Abstract

Migration is a response to changes in the environment where people live, including those from East Nusa Tenggara who have decided to move to Gresik. Like others who relocate to a new place, they must adapt to their new environment, especially with the language. This inevitably leads to language shift. Based on the explanation above, this study aims to analyze the forms of language shift and the factors causing language shift among the second generation of East Nusa Tenggara migrants who have moved to Driyorejo, Gresik. In this research, the author collected data through observations and interviews with participants. The author observed participants in school, home, and through online. The results indicate that the forms of language shift found in the second generation from East Nusa Tenggara are partial language shift observed in three families and permanent language shift found in two families. Furthermore, four factors contribute to the language shift among the second-generation East Nusa Tenggara community in Gresik: social factors, demographic factors, attitudes and values, and political policies.

Abstract

Literature represents and portrays variations in many aspects of life. It is a cultural product, meaning it comes from a process that aims to represent socio-cultural reality in a certain place and shows how literature and society are connected. Since it mirrors phenomena in real life, literature has many stories that relate to the community, including gender inequalities. Gender inequalities come from norms, values, stereotypes, structures, and systems that still believe that men should be ahead of women, allowing discrimination toward women. The idea that men are better than women are called patriarchal ideology. This article purposes to examine the patriarchal ideologies that Rebekah needs to deal with as a woman in the story “Daughter of the Book” by Dahlia Adler. To analyze the patriarchal ideologies in the story, the writer uses qualitative research to understand on the social phenomenon which happens in the society. The writer finds out three patriarchal ideologies found in the story. They are the “cult of ‘true womanhood’”, traditional gender role, and the objectification of women which exist in the society of Rebekah’s place.

Abstract

 Abstract: Nowadays, mass shootings have become a major problem in the United States. The media, especially CNN, plays an important role in shaping ideologies and perceptions of this case. This study aims to analyze CNN's role in representing shooting incidents in the United States from October to November 2023. This research applied a descriptive qualitative method, focusing on corpus-based Critical Discourse Analysis using Fairclough’s (2013) theory. The results found that the collocation and concordance of the word “Shooting” are often associated with verbs and adjectives with negative connotations. Discourse practice analysis indicates CNN’s tendency as a “left-wing” media. Furthermore, socio-cultural practice analysis shows that the shooting incident is related to the international political situation and poor government response. In addition, social factors reflect the ideology, culture, politics, and economic aspects of this shooting case. Thus, CNN’s ideology aligns with the left-wing groups, or liberals, in reporting mass shooting cases in the United States. Keywords: Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), Corpus, Shooting, CNN

Abstract

Pelatihan kelas belajar mengajar bahasa asing ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan melalui program kerja mahasiswa-mahasiswi yang berdomisili di Desa Blumbungan. Ada beberapa alasan yang melatarbelakangi program kerja ini. Alasan yang pertama adalah untuk mempermudah peluang mendapat pekerjaan yang baik. Adapun alasan yang kedua adalah mempermudah peluang diterimanya pendidikan di luar negeri. Alasan ketiga yaitu untuk mengikuti perkembangan zaman di era globalisasi. Oleh karena itu belajar bahasa asing sangat diperlukan dalam mengikuti perkembangan zaman. Belajar bahasa asing disini adalah bahasa Inggris, Jepang, Arab. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dari tanggal 23 Januari 2022 sampai 19 Januari 2023 mulai dari pukul 16.00 sampai pukul 17.00. Sasaran dari kegiatan adalah siswa SD atau MI. Ada beberapa tahap dalam kegiatan program kerja mengajar bahasa asing. Tim belajar membimbing para siswa dalam belajar bahasa Arab, Jepang, Inggris. Kana card adalah salah satu media belajar yang digunakan tim belajar dalam menjalankan kegiatan tersebut. Pendekatan yang dilakukan tim belajar adalah dengan survei SD atau MI, menonton video animasi, penggunaan Kana card. Respon dari orang tua wali adalah sangat puas dan senang.
