Abstract

Water is the main composition in the body, the amount of water content contained in the body is about 50-80%, depending on age, most of the human body consists of fluids, so the body really needs adequate fluid intake. This fluid intake is obtained from drinking water and food. Based on a survey conducted, the physical appearance of community dug well water in Warbo village Arso 7, West Arso district, is generally cloudy, smelly in colour and quite high in lime. This service aims to provide training to the Warbo village community so that they can use a dug well water purification tool and can use clean water. The method used in this service is the direct partner participation method, which explains the sequence of how the filter is connected to the daft machine or pump. The results of the service activities carried out on May 2024 were attended by 12 people. After a week of installing the filter, the people who became the sample or who were selected to receive filter assistance felt happy because the well water they used was no longer coloured, smelled, and cloudy.

Abstract

Alocasia is a genus of perennial, flowering plants from Araceae, native to tropical and subtropical Asia and eastern Australia. The corms of some Alocasia species are edible, but many Alocasia species are cultivated as ornamentals. Despite the rich biodiversity of Alocasia, there have been limited studies on the morphology and anatomy of these genera. Our study aimed to describe the morphology and growth patterns of two Alocasia species found in Papua, one of the remote regions in Indonesia, A. brancifolia and A. lauterbachiana. The existence of A. lauterbachiana in Papua has never been reported before. The two Alocasia species can be distinguished by their distinct leaf shapes and colors. Alocasia brancifolia has pinnatifid leaves, while A. lauterbachiana has serrated leaves. The leaf of A. brancifolia is thin and predominantly green with faint spots, while the petioles exhibit stripes of brown and green, whereas A. lauterbachiana leaves are thicker and have darker green and reddish color. Due to their attractive leaf shape and colors, both species have the potential to be developed as ornamental potted plants. In terms of growth, A. lauterbachiana exhibited faster growth than A. brancifolia. However, A. brancifolia demonstrated a 50% increase in multiplication over the 16-week study period, while A. lauterbachiana primarily grew taller and larger. This information could prove valuable for future studies to optimize the growth and cultivation techniques of the two Alocasia species for commercial purposes, particularly ornamental foliage plants.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the water quality of lakes on the coast of Kampung Yobeh, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency using the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment Water Quality Index (CCME-WQI) method. The analysis was carried out using eight water quality parameters which were compared with clean water quality standards in accordance with Government Regulation Number 22 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management (Appendix VI, Class 1). Sampling was carried out temporally in January, May and September 2024 to understand variations in water quality over different time periods. The research results show that the CCME-WQI value obtained is 24.177, which is included in the "Poor" category. Of the eight parameters analyzed, five of them did not meet clean water quality standards, so the lake water quality was not suitable for use as a raw water source for drinking water. These findings indicate the potential for pollution which could have a negative impact on aquatic ecosystems and the health of surrounding communities. Therefore, efforts to manage and mitigate pollution are needed to improve the quality of lake water in the region.

Abstract

Parameter yang dianalisis meliputi Total Padatan Tersuspensi (TSS), Oksigen Terlarut (DO), Minyak dan Lemak (ML), Amoniak Total (AT), dan Orto-Fosfat (OF).

Abstract

This research aims to assess the water quality status of Youtefa Bay in Jayapura City using the Coastal Water Quality Index (CWQI) method. Youtefa Bay is an important ecological area with mangrove, seagrass, and coral reef ecosystems that currently face anthropogenic pressures. A quantitative approach with descriptive analytical design was conducted through sampling at 12 stations during the dry season (June) and rainy season (November) 2024. Parameters measured included physical aspects (temperature, transparency, turbidity, TSS, salinity), chemical aspects (pH, DO, BOD, COD, nitrate, phosphate, ammonia, heavy metals), and biological aspects (chlorophyll-a, coliform, E. coli, phytoplankton). Results showed that the overall CWQI value for Youtefa Bay was 71.24 (classified as "Fair"). Significant spatial variation was observed with residential zones having the lowest CWQI (58.75, "Marginal"), port zones (62.41, "Marginal"), mangrove zones (68.35, "Fair"), and the central bay area having the highest value (83.42, "Good"). Principal Component Analysis identified eutrophication-related parameters (turbidity, TSS, BOD, nitrate, phosphate) as the main determinants of water quality, contributing 43.65% of the total variance. Temporal analysis showed lower water quality during the rainy season (CWQI=62.8) compared to the dry season (CWQI=74.5). Strong correlations were found between anthropogenic activities and water quality, with population density negatively correlated (r=-0.854) and mangrove cover positively correlated (r=0.765). Sustainable management strategies were formulated, prioritizing domestic waste management, mangrove rehabilitation, development of integrated monitoring systems, community empowerment, and strengthening stakeholder coordination. This research provides a scientific basis for effective bay management

Abstract

Utilizing hygienic and sanitary water is absolutely necessary to avoid unwanted negative impacts. This research was conducted in PIR 2, Arso, Keerom Regency from August to October 2022. This research aims to determine the quality status of dug well water by using the pollution index method with 18 (eighteen) water pollution parameters namely: physical parameters (turbidity, color, TDS, temperature, taste and smell), chemical parameters (pH, iron, fluoride, hardness, manganese, nitrate, nitrite, cyanide, detergents and total pesticides) as well as biological parameters (total Coliform and Escherichia coli). The samples in this research were taken from four sample points (research stations), namely station 1 (line 1), station 2 (line 2), station 3 (line 3) and station 4 (line 4). The results showed that the water quality status of dug wells at stations 2 and 3 obtained a pollution index of 10.28 and 12.72 respectively and classified as heavily polluted, while at stations 1 and 4 the pollution index was 2.38 and 4.80 respectively and both stations were classified as lightly polluted. Water parameters that did not qualify water quality standards were turbidity, iron content and Escherichia coli. A suitable water management plan to fulfill the quality standard requirements was the well water must be filtered using zeolite media, sand, palm fiber and activated carbon (coconut shell charcoal) and added a little chlorine (chlorine) or alum to the reservoir before filtration.
