Abstract

ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many aspects of life globally, from daily habits to one's lifestyle. With the prevention regulations against the COVID-19 pandemic, people are wearing masks more often and longer than usual. Thus, it leads to localized acne in the area covered by the mask, popularly called "mask acne." This study aims to determine the relationship between the use of medical masks and the incidence of mask acne among students of the Faculty of Medicine, Tarumanagara University, class of 2021-2022. This study used a cross-sectional design with a sample size of 224 respondents. Data was collected using consecutive sampling techniques and analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results in this study indicate the use of good medical masks (23%), moderate use of medical masks (64%), and poor use of medical makers (13%). This study shows no significant relationship between the use of medical masks and the incidence of mask acne (p-value> 0.05). Refraining from using data collection techniques through online form filling or Google forms filling in further research is recommended.

Abstract

Sarcopenia is a degenerative condition characterized by decreased muscle mass and strength, significantly affecting quality of life and functional ability, especially in the adult and elderly population. This community service activity was conducted at SMP Kalam Kudus, West Jakarta, involving 87 productive age participants. Screening was conducted using handgrip strength measurement, a non-invasive, practical, and effective method for early detection of sarcopenia risk. The results showed that 8.05% of participants had low handgrip strength, indicating an early risk of sarcopenia. Education on the importance of maintaining muscle strength through physical exercise and a healthy lifestyle was provided to participants. Handgrip strength screening has been shown to be an effective early detection tool and can be used as an indicator of chronic disease risk, including stroke. This activity contributes to increasing public awareness of the importance of muscle health and prevention of related complications. Routine implementation of screening and education is expected to improve quality of life and reduce the risk of disability in the adult population.

Abstract

Body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) are key indicators in evaluating metabolic risk. A high distribution of abdominal fat is closely associated with insulin resistance and various metabolic disorders. Mealtime-based interventions, such as time-restricted eating (TRE), are considered promising preventive strategies. This community education and anthropometric assessment were conducted at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Jakarta, using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) framework. Parameters evaluated included BMI and WHR, accompanied by visual educational materials on daily mealtime structuring. Among the 65 adult participants, the average BMI was 25.74 kg/m² and the average WHR was 0.9. A total of 56.92% were categorized as obese, and 83.08% exhibited a high WHR. These findings reflect a predominance of central adiposity, which is strongly associated with elevated metabolic risk. The high proportion of individuals with overweight and central fat accumulation highlights the urgency of preventive and promotive efforts. Educational interventions, particularly through poster-based delivery of information on time-restricted eating, present a feasible approach to raising public awareness on the importance of structured mealtimes as a preventive measure against metabolic disorders.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that is increasingly found in the productive age population and can have a major impact on quality of life, especially due to risk complications such as heart disease, nerve disorders, retinopathy, and kidney damage. Early symptoms are often not recognized because they are considered minor complaints, such as fatigue or frequent urination, so many cases are not diagnosed in the early stages. The Community Service Program (PKM) implemented in Grogol Village aims to increase public awareness of the importance of early detection of diabetes through fasting blood sugar screening activities. This activity uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach, including checking glucose levels with the Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) tool, as well as counseling on risk factors and prevention of diabetes. Of the 71 participants involved, 19 people (26.76%) were identified as having diabetes, 8 people (11.27%) had prediabetes, and the rest had blood sugar levels within normal limits. These results indicate that early screening is very important to prevent diabetes progression and severe complications, and is a foundation for building public awareness to maintain metabolic health sustainably.

Abstract

High blood triglyceride levels indicate impaired fat metabolism and can trigger atherosclerosis, making hypertriglyceridemia a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), metabolic syndrome, and acute pancreatitis. The productive-age population often experiences overnutrition due to unhealthy diets and low physical activity, increasing fat and triglyceride accumulation. Stress may also elevate triglyceride levels, necessitating early screening. The Community Service Program (PKM) at Assisi Church aimed to raise awareness of early dyslipidemia detection through triglyceride screening using Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) and educational counseling. Among 76 participants, 39 (57.35%) had high triglyceride levels, while 29 (42.65%) were normal. These findings highlight the importance of regular check-ups and continuous education to reduce cardiometabolic risks and promote healthier lifestyles.
