Abstract

Aging causes significant physiological changes in the skin, mainly due to decreased cellular function, decreased regenerative capacity, and changes in the extracellular matrix. External factors such as UV radiation, unhealthy lifestyle choices, and inadequate skin care further aggravate facial skin aging. This screening activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Action) method, which includes planning, implementation, evaluation and corrective action. Facial skin health was assessed using a skin analysis tool, and participants were provided with education regarding preventive measures. This activity consisted of 127 participants (30 men and 97 women). It was found that the average wrinkle, roughness, moist, and UV damage were 26.3%; 24%; 61.4%; and 38.3%. A comprehensive approach including lifestyle modifications, topical treatments, and regular check-ups is essential to reduce the effects of aging and improve skin health in seniors.

Abstract

Pruritus, or itching, is a common symptom in seniors that has a significant impact on their quality of life. Primary skin disorders such as xerosis, atopic dermatitis, and scabies, as well as systemic diseases such as cancer, chronic renal failure, cholestasis, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, iron deficiency anemia, and certain medications, can cause this condition. Chronic pruritus, which is common in individuals over 60 years of age, can cause discomfort, sleep disturbances, and psychological stress. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology to screen for pruritus intensity in the elderly in St. Anna. One individual (2.4%) reported mild pruritus, while 12 individuals (29.3%) reported severe pruritus. Routine assessment using the 12-PSS provides important information for managing pruritus in the elderly, meeting clinical and research needs, and improving patient care and quality of life.

Abstract

Hypertriglyceridemia is a condition characterized by triglyceride levels in the blood that exceed normal limits, which can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and other metabolic disorders. This Community Service initiative aims to enhance understanding and awareness among adults regarding the risks of high triglyceride levels and preventive measures through routine screenings and health education. The method used is the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach, which includes planning, implementation, checking, and action stages. During the planning stage, objectives, educational materials, and facility preparations are established to support the activities. Implementation includes sessions on the risks of high triglycerides, healthy lifestyle practices, and participant triglyceride level screenings. The checking stage evaluates participant understanding and the effectiveness of the activities. The action stage involves refining educational materials based on participant feedback. Improving community understanding of the importance of maintaining triglyceride levels through a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and routine monitoring is essential to support preventive efforts against potential health issues arising from this condition in the future.

Abstract

Hyperlipidemia, characterized by elevated levels of lipids such as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, significantly increases the risk of atherosclerosis, which causes cardiovascular disease, ischemic stroke, and peripheral arterial disease. Genetic tendencies and unhealthy lifestyles such as diet, smoking, and physical activity can cause this. This condition often does not cause symptoms, so it is necessary to carry out regular health checks. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology to screen for hyperlipidemia in the elderly at the Hana Nursing Home, South Tangerang. This activity included 61 respondents, and 28 people (45.9%) experienced hypercholesterolemia. These results highlight the importance of routine lipid screening in identifying individuals at risk early, enabling timely intervention. This examination can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality, thereby improving overall quality of life.

Abstract

High blood triglyceride levels indicate impaired fat metabolism and can trigger atherosclerosis, making hypertriglyceridemia a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), metabolic syndrome, and acute pancreatitis. The productive-age population often experiences overnutrition due to unhealthy diets and low physical activity, increasing fat and triglyceride accumulation. Stress may also elevate triglyceride levels, necessitating early screening. The Community Service Program (PKM) at Assisi Church aimed to raise awareness of early dyslipidemia detection through triglyceride screening using Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) and educational counseling. Among 76 participants, 39 (57.35%) had high triglyceride levels, while 29 (42.65%) were normal. These findings highlight the importance of regular check-ups and continuous education to reduce cardiometabolic risks and promote healthier lifestyles.

Abstract

Decreased muscle strength is an early indicator of sarcopenia risk, which can begin during productive age. Handgrip strength measurement is a practical screening tool to assess muscle function, particularly in community settings. Low grip strength is often linked to inadequate daily protein intake. This community service activity was conducted at St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Jakarta, using the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) approach. Handgrip strength was measured using a digital dynamometer on both hands, and the results were categorized by gender. Educational sessions were provided on the importance of protein intake to support muscle health. A total of 65 participants were examined, most of whom were over 60 years old. Male participants showed higher average grip strength than females, with most women falling into the low muscle strength category. The findings suggest a potential decline in muscle function that may not yet be clinically apparent. Handgrip strength screening, combined with nutrition education, serves as an effective preventive strategy against muscle deterioration and can be implemented as an early community-level approach to sarcopenia prevention. Abstract
