Abstract

This article explains the importance of writing fables, especially to uplift their creativity in socio-cultural circumstances. This writing is based on community service done to junior high school students in SMPN 48 Surabaya in 2024. The creative capacities of children possess the potential to enhance their comprehension of individuals, communities, and cultures in everyday experiences, as articulated by Lev Vygotsky. The act of writing fables can serve to enhance creativity, facilitating a deeper exploration of their environmental understanding alongside the improvement of their linguistic competencies. Through an exploratory approach within qualitative research, this manuscript underscores fable writing as a mechanism to cultivate awareness of the students’ potentials, surroundings, and imaginative thoughts pertinent to cognitive development. In conclusion, the practice of writing fables for junior high school students is essential for the advancement of creativity within the realms of formal education and daily life.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the myth of the rat and the 'Rat Man' through their behavior in the film The Rat Catcher. The research employs a qualitative method with data collection through note-taking. The researcher watches the film and records dialogues related to the research theme. The data analysis technique is conducted by analyzing the dialogues and behaviors in The Rat Catcher1 in relation to the concept of myth within Claude Levi-Strauss's structuralism. Myths are often associated with events in society that influence customs or lifestyles of those who believe in them. Through Levi-Strauss's structuralist analysis, it was found that the failure of the Rat Man to catch the rat highlights the irony of the myth. The various methods he employs to catch the rat, ranging from ordinary to unique and even extreme, yield no results. In conclusion, the Rat Man remains trapped in an illusion that does not prove the myth he believes in, thus the myth about the rat continues to linger in his mind. The contribution of this study is to provide an understanding of how the myths of the rat and the 'Rat Man' can be analyzed through the lens of Claude Levi-Strauss's structuralism to reveal the irony and failure in the application of these myths.

Abstract

The song of Pumped Up Kicks, released by Foster the People in 2010 draws public attention, both because of its melody and dark lyrical theme. This song creates discussions about social isolation, mental health, and violence among teenagers. This paper aims to analyze the song through the qualitative approach and the perspective of social conflicts. By interpreting the lyrics and their deeper implications, this research explores the effects of neglect, bullying, depression, economic disparity, and mental health issues in this song. It highlights how the widening gap between the rich and the poor, along with broken relationships between parents and children, can push youth toward destructive behavior. In conclusion, this analysis suggests that Pumped Up Kicks serves as a powerful social commentary and reminder of the pressing societal issues people face today, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness and intervention.
