Abstract

This research analyses the social and cultural values in Darin J. Sallam's Farha by examining the relationship between Representament, Object, and Interpretant. The research uses a qualitative paradigm with a Charles Sanders Peirce semiotic analysis approach. Literature study is the method used based on data sources in the form of snippets of dialogue scenes from Farha's film published on the Netflix platform. The formal Object of this research is Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics and the material Object is Farha Film by Darin J. Sallam. The results and discussion show several representations that can produce several interpretations. The explanation of the interpretation in this film is in the form of social and cultural values based on the theory expressed by Eduard Spranger. In this film, there are at least five social and cultural values consisting of religious, power, solidarity, theoretical, and art or aesthetic values. The various values presented in the film illustrate the setting of this film in Palestine, which at that time was hit by the Nakba Day event. The values in the film are expected to inspire many people, especially in seeing the phenomena in Palestine This research using Charles Sanders Peirce's Semiotics theory only found five social and cultural values and it is hoped that other researchers will continue this research with different theories.Keywords – Farha Film, Palestine, Peirce’s Semiotic,.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fokus kajian dan hasil belajar mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa dan Sastra Arab di UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif, yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan hasil belajar (learning outcome) mahasiswa berdasarkan artikel jurnal yang dipublikasikan di Google Scholar oleh Rohanda Rohanda. Penelitian ini berupaya memahami bagaimana mahasiswa mendalami berbagai disiplin ilmu dalam studi bahasa dan sastra Arab serta bagaimana pemahaman mereka terhadap fokus kajian tertentu memengaruhi hasil belajar yang dicapai. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa yang memiliki pemahaman mendalam terhadap fokus kajian tertentu cenderung mencapai hasil belajar yang lebih optimal. Fokus kajian tersebut mencakup aspek linguistik dan sastra, yang berkontribusi terhadap pengembangan wawasan akademik dan keterampilan analitis mereka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis fenomena rasisme terhadap etnis Tionghoa dalam film Ngenest, sebuah memoar karya Ernest Prakasa, dengan menggunakan pendekatan strukturalisme genetik Lucien Goldmann. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengungkap bagaimana pengalaman pribadi penulis merefleksikan diskriminasi rasial dan identitas etnis dalam masyarakat Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan analisis deskriptif terhadap isi memoar tersebut, didukung oleh tinjauan literatur yang berkaitan dengan rasisme dan teori strukturalisme genetik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Ngenest merepresentasikan rasisme melalui tiga aspek strukturalisme genetik, yaitu fakta manusia, subjek kolektif, dan pandangan dunia. Fakta manusia dibagi menjadi fakta individu, yang menggambarkan pengalaman pribadi Ernest tentang perundungan dan stereotip rasial, dan fakta sosial, yang menggambarkan diskriminasi sistemik terhadap etnis Tionghoa, seperti kebijakan-kebijakan Orde Baru. Subjek kolektif tercermin dari bagaimana pengalaman individu Ernest merepresentasikan perjuangan kolektif etnis Tionghoa dalam menghadapi diskriminasi sosial. Sementara itu, pandangan dunia dalam memoar tersebut mengekspresikan harapan akan kesetaraan dan kritik terhadap Bhinneka Tunggal Ika yang sering kali hanya menjadi slogan tanpa implementasi yang nyata. Penelitian ini hanya membahas tiga aspek dari strukturalisme genetik Goldmann, tanpa mengeksplorasi aspek dialektika pemahaman dan penjelasannya. Kontribusinya terletak pada pengayaan studi sastra tentang rasisme dengan menunjukkan bagaimana pengalaman pribadi dalam sebuah memoar dapat merefleksikan

Abstract

Film is a form of visual art that serves not only as a medium of entertainment but also as a reflection and critique of the social realities that underpin it. This study aims to analyse how the film Wadjda (2012) by Haifaa al-Mansour represents individual struggle and oppressive social structures through the lens of genetic structuralism developed by Lucien Goldmann. The primary objective of this research is to reveal the dialectical relationship between the film text and the patriarchal social structure of Saudi Arabian society by examining how collective consciousness is reflected in the narrative and characters of the film. The focus of the study lies in two main aspects: (1) the individual facts depicted in Wadjda and (2) the social facts that underlie the limitations of women's roles in society. Through narrative and social analysis of the film Wadjda, it is found that Wadjda's struggle to own a bicycle becomes a symbol of resistance against cultural and religious norms that restrict women's freedom. The film not only portrays the personal conflict of the character but also represents the tension between traditional values and aspirations for modernity. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to literary studies, particularly in understanding the dialectical relationship between text and social structure in visual literary works.

Abstract

This research analyzes the changes in the main character’s  fate in the short story "Nicosia" by Saadi Youssef through the review of actant scheme and functional structure. It uses a qualitative paradigm with the Algirdas Julien Greimas (A.J. Greimas) narrative semiotics analysis approach. The formal object in this research is A.J. Greimas's semiotics, and the material object is the short story "Nicosia" already published on the website nizwa.com. The results and discussion show that the main character experiences a significant change in fate. The results and discussion show that the main character experiences a significant change in fate. Starting from the initial situation as someone with an uncertain life fate and troubled by anxiety, it ends with the main character's self-situation full of peace and tranquility. Several phenomena in the story are explained in the transformation that begins from the initial situation to result in the final situation. The placement of the main character as the subject, other supporting characters who act as helpers, and several things received by the main character can form a functional structure of the story that is limited to the isotop of space and time.
