Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition that affects the heart and circulatory system, often without symptoms, but can cause serious problems. Low physical activity and poor sleep quality can affect blood pressure. Aim: examining the relationship between physical activity, sleep quality, and blood pressure among employees at Gunung Jati University. Methods: This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional approach conducted on employees of Gunung Jati Cirebon University, involving 134 employees in May 2025 using consecutive sampling techniques and the GPAQ physical activity questionnaire and PSQI sleep questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by applying the Spearman correlation test. Results: Most of the physical activity of Gunung Jati Swadaya University employees falls into the moderate category, at 40.3%. The sleep quality of Gunung Jati Swadaya University employees is mostly poor, at 81.3%, and the blood pressure of employees at this university is mostly high normal, at 24.6%. Statistical analysis shows a significant relationship between physical activity and blood pressure, with a p-value of 0.000 and r = -0.370, and no significant relationship between sleep quality and blood pressure, with p = 0.108 and r = 0.139. Conclusion: There is a relationship between physical activity and blood pressure among employees at Gunung Jati Swadaya University, with a moderate correlation strength and a negative variable direction. The less physically active a person is, the higher their blood pressure. There is no correlation between sleep quality and blood pressure among employees at Gunung Jati Swadaya University.

Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular endurance refers to a person's ability to perform activities involving the entire body at moderate to high intensity over extended periods. Cardiovascular endurance is influenced by several factors, such as physical activity. Moderate to high-intensity physical activity trains the body to exchange oxygen more efficiently and results in enhancing cardiovascular endurance. Other factors that could contribute in cardiovascular endurance are smoking and Body Mass Index (BMI). Aims: To find the correlation between physical activity, BMI, smoking, and cardiovascular endurance among employees of Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati, Cirebon, Indonesia. Methods: It was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach that used the GPAQ physical activity questionnaire and cardiovascular endurance data that was obtained through the Harvard Step Test involving 77 educational staff employees at Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. The analytical statistics used was Spearman’s correlation test with a significance value of p = <0.05. Results: Most of the Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati employee’s had moderate level of physical activity (44.2%) and very low cardiovascular endurance (37.7%). The analytical statistic showed a significant correlation between physical activity and cardiovascular endurance with a p-value of 0.034 and a Spearman's r of 0.242. Smoking has significant correlation with cardiovascular endurance with p value of 0.003 and Spearman’s r of 0.338. BMI showed negative and weak correlation with cardiovascular endurance with p value 0.008 and Spearman’s r -0.302. Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between physical activity and cardiovascular endurance among the employees of Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati, Cirebon, Indonesia.   Received: 25 September 2024  |  Reviewed: 26 October 2024  |  Revised: 17 November 2024  |  Accepted: 30 November 2024.

Abstract

Kata kunci: sindrom metabolik, obesitas, preeklampsia ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Preeclampsia is a gestasional hypertension that present with proteinuria or others organ damages. Every year in Indonesia, the incident of preeclampsia is 128.273 cases or approximately 5,3% which had not shown a decrement from the number of the cases for two decades. There are some risk factors that can cause preeclampsia, one of it is obesity which is the component of metabolic disorders as a clinical manifestation of metabolic syndrome. METHOD: This study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The data that used in this study is a secondary data that achieved from Majasem Community Health Centre medical records in 2022. The sampling method used in this study is a total sampling method and as much 40 sample were included to this study. The bivariate analysis that used in this study is the Spearman correlation test RESULT: the incidence of metabolic syndrome in post partum woman in Majasem Community Health Centre is 16 cases. The incidence of preeclampsia in in Majasem Community Health Centre at 2022 is 40 cases. The Spearman analytical test shows a correlation between metabolic syndrome and preeclampsia in Majasem Community Health Centre. CONCLUSION: the Spearman test showed a p-value of 0,018 < 0,05 which means there is a correlation between metabolic syndrome and preeclampsia at Majasem Community Health Centre. Keywords: metabolic syndrome, obesity, preeclampsia
