Abstract

Abstract: Community service activities have been carried out by a team of servants from the Deli Husada Delitua Health Institute with the theme of socialisation of the use of traditional medicine in the prevention of degenerative diseases. This community service activity is motivated by the number of people who come to the Delitua Health Centre for treatment without knowing the side effects of the drugs they consume from the puskesmas and other alternatives that can be done to minimise the onset of these side effects. In addition, it is related to things that can be done to increase endurance such as consuming traditional medicine. The method used for community service activities is the method of socialisation and lectures on degenerative diseases and an explanation of some traditional medicines that can be used in the prevention of degenerative diseases. In addition, there is an evaluation carried out after the socialisation activity in the form of questions and answers about the application of traditional medicine in their respective homes. The results of the community service activities are that the community is quite enthusiastic in receiving socialisation from the service team. People who initially did not understand about degenerative diseases and the use of traditional medicine, increased their knowledge with the socialisation.

Abstract

The skin needs antioxidant compounds that can ward off free radicals caused by several factors, one of which is air pollution. Bidara leaves (Zizipus spina Cristi (L) Desf) and benalu duku leaves (Dendrophthoe pentandra (L.) Miq) contain flavonoid compounds that function as antioxidants that can ward off free radicals. This study aims to formulate bidara leaf extract and benalu duku leaf into the form of Facemist preparation and determine the best Facemist product formula with the addition of bidara leaf extract, benalu leaf, and a combination of two extracts through antioxidant activity parameters. The antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH (1,1-dipenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method. The Facemist sample was formulated into a Facemist with concentration variations: F1 : EEDB 5%, F2 : EEDBD : 5%, F3 : EEDB : 2.5% EEDBD 2.5%, F4 : EEDB : 5% EEDBD : 5%, F5 : EEDB : 10% EEDBD : 10%. Facemist preparations are eval_uated for their physical characteristics, namely organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity test, dry time test, irritation test. The results showed that Facemist was a combination of bidara leaf extract and benalu duku leaf homogeneous, pH <7, had a viscosity value of <500 cps, a good drying time of <5 minutes and did not cause irritation to the skin. The formulation of Facemist preparation that has the best antioxidant activity value is F5 with antioxidant activity (IC50) of 58.33 ppm in the strong category.

Abstract

Stress is a common phenomenon that significantly impacts physical and mental health. One natural method widely developed to promote relaxation is aromatherapy. This study aimed to formulate tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) essential oil into aromatherapy candles and evaluate their physical characteristics. Essential oil extraction was carried out using steam distillation, then formulated into candles using paraffin and stearic acid as the base ingredients. Four formulas with varying essential oil concentrations were selected: F1 (0 mL), F2 (5 mL), F3 (10 mL), and F4 (15 mL). Evaluation included organoleptic tests (color, aroma, and shape), homogeneity, melting point, and physical stability. The results showed that the candle with the addition of 15 mL of essential oil (F4) had the best physical characteristics: even color, a smooth surface, no cracks, easy lighting, and a strong, distinctive, calming aroma. Based on the evaluation results, tuberose essential oil was successfully formulated into a stable aromatherapy candle with the potential to provide a relaxing effect.
