Differentiated instruction is designed to meet the diverse learning needs of students based on their readiness, interests, and learning profiles. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The subjects of this study were 30 students of Grade XI. Data collection techniques included observation, tests, and documentation. The results showed that the application of differentiated instruction significantly improved student learning outcomes. In the first cycle, student mastery reached 76 persen, which increased to 93 persen in the second cycle. The normal gain test results indicated a high level of improvement for most students, with an average g score of 1.85 Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of differentiated instruction is effective in improving student achievement in History.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented in the coastal area of Ambon City, which is highly vulnerable to tsunamis and coastal abrasion. It was motivated by the low level of geographical literacy and disaster awareness among high school students. The aim was to enhance spatial understanding and disaster preparedness through a participatory approach combining local mapping, simple geospatial technology, and local wisdom. The method employed a Participatory Action Research model consisting of problem identification, teacher-student training, participatory mapping, mitigation simulation, and impact evaluation. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ ability to interpret risk maps and evacuation routes, as well as the creation of locally contextualized mitigation learning modules. This program contributes both conceptually and practically to strengthening disaster education in coastal schools and encourages replication in other regions with supportive policies and simple technologies

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out to enhance the capacity of 30 geography teachers in island schools in Ambon City to develop learning media based on local potential that reflects the region’s geographical characteristics. The activity was motivated by the limited use of contextual media that mirrors students’ real environments. Its goal was to empower teachers to design and utilize learning media that strengthen students’ spatial understanding. The method included participatory mentoring, three-month technical workshops, and classroom implementation. Results showed a 40% improvement in teachers’ ability to design interactive media, a 35% increase in student engagement, and the emergence of school initiatives to build inter-teacher collaboration. The program demonstrated a significant contribution to strengthening locally rooted education in island regions. The approach is recommended for sustainable implementation in other island-based schools across Eastern Indonesia
