Abstract

The thinking process characterized by reflective thinking towards critical thinking to produce a decision is called the refractive thinking process. However, how the refractive thinking process occurs in the subject needs to be revealed. This study aims to reveal the refractive thinking process in subjects who use a single strategy in decision making. This study is a qualitative approach involving 25 mathematics education students from two universities in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Each student was given a test on the problem of ordering cities based on the level of dependence on the central government from lowest to highest. The decision to order cities was based on local revenues data that varied between cities and unstable from year to year. In this study, the researcher only analyzed the refractive thinking process of one subject who used a single strategy in decision making. The subject was asked to think aloud. The results showed that students who carried out the refractive thinking process with a single strategy only needed one alternative solution to make a decision, namely by summing up the contributions of each city per year. The subject only identified the comparison of the amount and increase in the contribution of each city as a consideration for making a decision.

Abstract

This study aims to implement digital comics as a learning medium to enhance mathematical thinking in students with Autism. Students often struggle with understanding abstract concepts and require a visual and structured storytelling approach. Therefore, digital comics offer a combination of narrative, illustrations, and digital interactions that can help them comprehend mathematical concepts more effectively. This study employs an experimental approach with a pretest-posttest design on a group of autistic students at a Special Needs School (SLB) in Malang City. The developed digital comics focus on basic number concepts, including number recognition, simple arithmetic operations, and numerical relationships. Data were collected through mathematical concept comprehension tests, observations of student engagement during learning, and interviews with teachers and parents. The results indicate that the use of digital comics can progressively improve student engagement, mathematical concept comprehension, and mathematical thinking skills. Students demonstrated better recognition of numerical patterns, understanding of number relationships, and the ability to solve simple problems with the aid of engaging visuals. This study provides recommendations for educators to integrate digital comics as an inclusive learning medium that supports students in developing a more meaningful understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Abstract

Anxiety in learning mathematics is a significant issue that affects students' ability to understand and solve mathematical problems. Factors such as the learning environment, social stereotypes, and personal factors play a crucial role in triggering this anxiety. Research has highlighted the negative consequences of math anxiety on students' performance in everyday problem-solving and their academic achievement. Various strategies have been proposed to address math anxiety, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, cooperative learning, and realistic mathematics approaches. The implementation of innovative strategies such as gamification, flipped classrooms, and the integration of the history of mathematics has also proven successful in increasing students' interest and understanding of mathematics. Evaluations of studies indicate that cooperative learning models and guidance services focused on problem-solving have been effective in improving mathematics learning outcomes. With a deep understanding of the factors influencing math anxiety and efforts to address them, it is hoped that the quality of mathematics learning can be improved and students' anxiety in learning the subject can be reduced.

Abstract

This research aims to develop android-based learning media on Curved Side Spaces material, and evaluate the feasibility of the developed media. This Android-based learning media development was developed using 4 (four) software, including: (1) Canva; (2) PowerPoint; (3) iSpring Suite; and (4) Website 2 APK Builder. In this study, the development model refers to the ADDIE development model, with its stages, namely: (1) Analysis; (2) Design; (3) Development; (4) Implementation; (5) Evaluation. The research instruments include validation sheets for experts and student response questionnaires. The results of expert validation show an average feasibility of 83% (quite valid), while the results of student responses get an average of 79.5% (good). Based on these findings, the learning media “Barung Silung” is considered feasible to use to support math learning. This research is limited to the media development stage. Abstract

This study aims to describe the reasoning of seventh grade students in solving mathematical problems which includes sense-making, conjecturing, convincing, reflecting, and generalizing reasoning components. Based on the research objectives, the research conducted is useful to provide an overview of students' abilities in solving math problems involving five components through data exposure and discussion can explain the differences in students' abilities made by students. This research uses qualitative research methods with descriptive research types and data analysis includes three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The source of data in this study is the results of students' work on the problem of rectangular flat shapes given, with the subject chosen 3 students. Of the 3 students there are differences in ability in solving rectangular problems so that these differences are classified into 3 characteristics based on the abilities of each student in the form of 1 student with high mathematics ability, 1 student with moderate mathematics ability, 1 student with low mathematics ability.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the counting processes of counting all and counting in early childhood specifically ages 5-6. To achieve this goal, a qualitative method was employed, and the instrument used consisted of three-word problems read by the examiner. These problems were related to counting all, counting all and counting on, and counting on strategies. The study subjects were six 5-6-year-old students from a kindergarten in Malang. The data collection process began with several students being asked to provide answers and reasons regarding the given instrument. Students who provided appropriate reasons were selected as study subjects. The various results obtained included, students using different strategies, such as counting all, counting on, and a combination of counting all and counting on to solve problems. In counting all, subjects counted the quantity of the first number and proceeded with the second. However, this strategy posed difficulties for students when answering addition problems above 10, leading to the use of toes as an additional counting tool. In counting, students remembered the quantity of the first number and continued counting while extending their fingers according to the quantity of the second number. Furthermore, subjects used both strategies in close succession by transitioning from counting all to counting on when solving addition problems of numbers above 5
