Abstract

Abstract. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in improving community welfare, particularly in rural areas. One promising sector is brown sugar processing in Dumaring Village, Berau Regency, which contributes to household income, job creation, and local economic growth. This community service program aimed to strengthen entrepreneurs' understanding of the importance of creative business development in enhancing household and village economies through brown sugar production. A qualitative approach was employed through socialization and mentoring activities involving business owners, village officials, and local residents. The program focused on increasing production capacity, introducing digital marketing strategies, and improving product packaging to enhance market appeal. The results showed that participants gained better knowledge of digital marketing and packaging innovation. Nevertheless, several challenges remain, including limited business capital, restricted market access, traditional production methods, and weak business management. To address these issues, strengthening strategies are needed through human resource capacity building, the adoption of appropriate technology, product innovation, expanded marketing networks, and support from the government and relevant institutions. These efforts are expected to promote sustainable business growth while improving community welfare and supporting local economic development.

Abstract

Abstract

Poverty remains a critical socioeconomic challenge in East Kalimantan Province despite its abundant natural resources. This study aimed to analyze the effects of population size and regional development inequality on poverty levels across 10 districts/cities in East Kalimantan during the 2022–2025 period. A quantitative approach using panel data regression analysis was employed, utilizing secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The sample consisted of 40 observations selected through saturated sampling. The analysis was conducted using EViews 13 software, with the Common Effect Model (CEM) selected as the most appropriate model based on the Chow, Hausman, and Lagrange Multiplier tests. The results indicated that both population size and development inequality had positive and significant effects on poverty levels, both partially and simultaneously. The regression coefficient for population size (0.004198, p = 0.0006) indicated that a 1% increase in population size was associated with a 0.41% increase in poverty levels, while the development inequality coefficient (43.37810, p = 0.0003) demonstrated a stronger influence on poverty. The adjusted R² value of 50.1% indicated that the two variables explained approximately half of the variation in poverty levels. These findings support Malthusian theory and Kuznets’ hypothesis while aligning with recent studies on the development paradox in East Kalimantan. Poverty alleviation strategies should prioritize equitable development policies and improvements in human resource quality, particularly in disadvantaged areas, to achieve sustainable poverty reduction in East Kalimantan.

Abstract

Changes in operational demands and the complexity of tasks in military environments require soldiers to possess adaptive, competent, and professional performance. This study aims to analyze the effect of innovative leadership and infrastructure on soldiers’ performance, with motivation and competence as intervening variables, at the Headquarters of the 18th Field Artillery Battalion (Yonarmed) Komposit Buritkang Labanan, Berau Regency. The study employed a quantitative approach with a sample of 210 soldiers. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that innovative leadership and infrastructure have a positive and significant effect on soldiers’ motivation and competence. Motivation was found to positively and significantly influence soldiers’ performance, while competence showed a positive but relatively weaker effect. Furthermore, the mediation pathway through motivation was significant, strengthening the effect of innovative leadership and infrastructure on performance, whereas the mediation through competence was not significant. These findings highlight that soldiers’ performance is more strongly influenced by innovative leadership, adequate infrastructure, and motivation than by competence alone.
