Abstract

This study aims to analyse the factors that cause Chronic Energy Deficiency (CHD) in pregnant women at Darul Falah Health Centre, East Aceh District, in 2024. SEZ in pregnant women is one of the nutritional problems that can cause serious complications, both for the mother and the fetus she is carrying, such as low birth weight babies (LBW), anaemia, and the risk of difficult childbirth. This study used an analytical survey method with a case control approach on 66 respondents selected proportionally with random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analysed using the chi-square test. The results showed that maternal age, anaemia, and emesis gravidarum had a significant association with the incidence of SEZ in pregnant women (p < 0.05), while the gestational age factor did not show a significant association. Anaemia and emesis gravidarum were the most influential factors for the incidence of SEZ, with a risk of 17.5 times and 10.07 times greater respectively than pregnant women who did not experience these conditions. This study confirms the importance of regular health monitoring of pregnant women, nutrition education, and intervention in the form of supplementary feeding to prevent the occurrence of SEZ and its complications. Abstract

Stunting and motor development disorders are crucial global health issues for human resource quality, where Indonesia's national stunting prevalence still reached 21.5% in 2023. At the local level, a preliminary survey at Bangun Rejo Village indicated that 50% of mothers ignored the crawling phase due to a lack of literacy regarding the importance of gross motor stimulation. Background: The need for structured interventions such as prone kneeling stimulation is an important variable to be studied to accelerate the functional maturity of muscles and nerves during the golden period of infant growth. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effect of prone kneeling stimulation on infants' crawling ability at Bangun Rejo Village, Tanjung Morawa District in 2025. Methods: The research design used a quasi-experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design on a sample of 43 infants selected through total sampling technique. Data were collected through direct observation using the Crawling Guideline Australia guide sheet during the period of January–March 2025 and analyzed using the Chi-Square test at a 95% confidence level. Results: The research findings showed that the majority of respondents were aged 8–9 months (58.1%) and female (51.2%). Bivariate analysis revealed that infants given stimulation had a crawling success rate of 86.4%, while the group without stimulation only reached 38.1%. Statistical tests showed a p-value = 0.001, which means there is a significant relationship between prone kneeling stimulation and crawling ability. Conclusion: Prone kneeling intervention is proven effective in facilitating infants' gross motor development; therefore, it is suggested for health facilities to integrate this stimulation technique into routine educational programs for parents..

Abstract

Background: Choking is a medical emergency caused by airway obstruction by a foreign object that can potentially cause instant death, especially in young children. World Health Organization (WHO) data records thousands of cases of choking in children under three years of age each year, with food and foreign objects being the main causes. In Indonesia, choking contributes significantly to infant mortality, particularly during breastfeeding. A limited cough reflex and a narrow airway increase the risk of fatality. Successful treatment depends heavily on the speed and accuracy of first aid provided by those closest to the child, especially the mother. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge and experience of mothers with their skills in providing first aid in cases of choking. Method: This study used an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. Subjects were mothers of young children in Bangun Rejo Village. Data were collected through a questionnaire to measure knowledge and experience, as well as observation sheets for first aid skills related to choking. Data were analyzed statistically to assess the relationship between variables. Results: The study results showed a significant relationship between mothers' knowledge and experience and their first aid skills in choking. Mothers with greater knowledge and experience tended to have more adequate skills. Conclusion: Mothers' knowledge and experience play a crucial role in improving first aid skills in choking cases. Basic Life Support education and training need to be improved to prevent child deaths due to airway obstruction at the household level.
