Abstract

This study discusses the concept of wasa?iyyah concerning religious moderation campaigned by the Indonesian government. This study is critical because several studies state that the two have similar meanings. Still, each has distinct identities and characteristics that need to be discussed academically as further consideration of the concepts presented. Wasa?iyyah is a middle way of thinking and acting in Islam, not merely referring to a standing position between the two, but is associated with the best and foremost balance. This study uses discourse analysis to understand the conceptual definition of both wasatiyyah and moderation. This study concludes that the meaning of Wassatiyah contains several different elements, whereas Wasatiyyah is mainly built on theological constructions based on the Al-Qur'an. Wasa?iyyah, on the other hand, is an offer made from an Islamic point of view to engage in efforts to deradicalize religion with several characteristics and traits found in the Qur'an and formulated by Islamic scholars.

Abstract

There is disagreement among scholars since the word "Qur'an" has multiple meanings. The Qur'anic phrases "Al-Hawa" and "Al-Syahwah" are examples of pairs of synonymous sentences. At first glance, from the perspective of the second language, the lafadz has almost the same meaning, namely love or pleasure. But the Qur'an gives different meanings from the two lafazh. This study aims to find out the original meaning of lafazh Al-Hawa and Al-Syahwah, find out the difference in meaning by examining the contextual meaning of lafazh Al-Hawa and Al-Syahwah in the Qur'an, to reveal the wisdom contained in the Qur'an as a whole. To examine the differences between the words Al-Hawa and Al-Syahwah in the Qur'an, the author uses a descriptive-analysis method and a semantic approach, namely by examining the words Al-Hawa and Al-Syahwah in terms of linguistic differences. From linguistic differences, it can be concluded that al-Hawa is more inclined to opinions or beliefs that are inclined to negative traits because they neglect the perpetrators. While al-Syahwah is more inclined to the senses that have no effect on the body but affect psychological pleasure that is praiseworthy at one time and can be reprehensible at another time

Abstract

Purpose The aim of this study is to reveal two important aspects: first, to uncover the secrets of the words "taqwa" (piety) and "ilm" (knowledge) through the application of the principle of taqdim wa ta'khir (precedence and delay).   Method This study used a library research approach using primary and secondary sources. This study was conducted using a descriptive method, a scientific approach involving the collection and organization of data related to the aspects of taqwa (piety) and ilm (knowledge). The researcher also utilized an analytical method to examine the precedence of the word taqwa over ilm in the Qur'an through a contextual semantic analysis.   Results/findings The text discusses the significance of prioritizing taqwa (piety) over knowledge in several verses of Surah Al-Baqarah. In verse 194, taqwa is emphasized in retribution to avoid excessiveness. In verse 196, taqwa is highlighted as a part of obedience to Allah. In verse 203, the importance of taqwa in the rituals of Hajj is shown as a reminder of responsibility before Allah. In verse 223, taqwa prepares the soul for knowledge and its application. In verse 231, taqwa is linked to Allah’s all-encompassing knowledge to ensure rights and interests. In verse 233, the importance of taqwa is emphasized in children’s rights and the relationship between parents. In verse 282, taqwa is presented as the foundation for guidance and continuous learning from Allah for the benefit of His servants.   Conclusion The results of this study indicate that the precedence of taqwa over ilm emphasizes taqwa as the foundation for behavior control, inner worship, and practices that ensure obedience to Allah. Taqwa prepares the soul for beneficial knowledge, protects it from deviations, and strengthens responsibility and self-discipline. Through taqwa, guidance, justice, and the preservation of rights according to Allah’s Sharia are achieved.
