Abstract

Abstract

Caladium, a member of the Araceae family, is known for its diverse leaf colors and patterns, referred to as variegation. This study aimed to examine the relationship between pigmentation patterns, variegated areas, and leaf anatomy, chlorophyll content, and photosynthetic rate under different light conditions. Two light treatments were applied, full sun (0% shade, 37,500 lux) and 70% shade (12,000 lux), using direct morning sunlight. Seven distinct types of Caladium were used in the experiment. Photosynthetic rate was measured using a LI-6400 portable photosynthesis system at Photosynthetic Photon Flux Densities (PPFD) of 100, 400, and 800 µmol m-2 s-1. Pigment analysis included quantification of chlorophyll, carotenoids, and anthocyanins, while morphological assessments focused on leaf size, variegated area, and leaf thickness. Plants exposed to higher light intensity developed smaller, thicker leaves with mostly larger proportion of variegated area. Chlorophyll, carotenoid, and anthocyanin contents varied depending on plant type and light treatment. The net photosynthetic rate (Pn) increased with higher PPFD and was greater in unshaded conditions. Among the plant types, V3 and V4 exhibited characteristics typical of shade-adapted species, while V6 showed traits of sun-loving plants. Overall, the study demonstrated that variegated Caladium plants maintain comparable net photosynthetic rates despite differences in pigmentation patterns and variegation intensity.

Abstract

The system of linear equations of two variables is contextual material in learning mathematics. Yet, there are facts that show there are still errors and difficulties experienced by students in the problem of the system of linear equations of two variables. The research purpose is to conduct a literature review on the skills, errors, and difficulties of students on the problem of the system of linear equations of two variables. This research uses the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) method. Data collection was carried out by reviewing all articles related to math skills, errors, and difficulties of students on the problem of the system of linear equations of two variables published from 2019 to 2023. Based on the research results, it was found that students' skills to solve the problem of two-variable linear equation system was still low. Students still made many mistakes in understanding the problem and converting it into a mathematical model, carrying out the plan or process, performing calculations, and often ignoring the evaluation of the results obtained.

Abstract

Mathematical representation ability is crucial in understanding fraction concepts, especially for elementary school students still in the concrete cognitive development stage. This study aims to describe the mathematical representation abilities of fourth-grade students in learning fractions through the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) approach with a joyful learning atmosphere. This approach was implemented through educational games such as Run Speech Fraction, Jump and Draw Fraction, and Walk Fast Fraction. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method, involving three fourth-grade students from an elementary school in Cirebon, each representing a high, medium, and low ability level. Data were collected through written tests and in-depth interviews, and analysed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that when delivered in an engaging and enjoyable atmosphere, the CRA approach effectively supports the gradual development of verbal, visual, and symbolic representations. High-ability students demonstrated consistency across all three forms of representation; medium-ability students showed basic understanding but still required guidance; low-ability students faced difficulties yet remained enthusiastic throughout the learning process. This study contributes to developing instructional strategies that promote gradual conceptual understanding, foster enjoyable learning experiences, and encourage active student engagement in mathematics.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the optimization of students' learning interest by using TaRL (Teaching At The Right Level) learning which is viewed from the learning interest of students in class X. The research method used in this research is quantitative descriptive. Data on students' learning interest was measured using a questionnaire and data on the results of mathematical communication skills through written tests, both of which were analyzed quantitatively. The results showed that the average percentage of interest in learning increased by 23% from 49% (less) in cycle I to 72% (sufficient) in cycle II. In the aspect of students' mathematical communication skills, it is demonstrated by an increase in the percentage of completeness by 33% in cycle I to 82% in cycle II. The average student score increased by 48% from Cycle I to Cycle II.
