Abstract

The management and care of wounds play a crucial role in the healing process. Improper wound management can lead to infections, slow down the healing process, and even cause post-healing disabilities. Therefore, increasing knowledge about wound care is essential, especially in initial treatment, by conducting wound care training to prevent infections. The training was provided to the administrative staff and youth of the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Tebet. It was conducted using two methods: theoretical and practical. Participants were given pre- and post-training tests to assess their understanding and knowledge before and after the training. A total of 22 participants attended the wound care training to prevent infections. There was a significant increase in the average test scores after the training. It can be concluded that the training improved participants' understanding and knowledge of wound care to prevent infections.

Abstract

This study investigates code-switching practices as markers of social identity among Chinese-Indonesian students in urban secondary education settings. While code-switching has been widely studied in Indonesian bilingual contexts, research focusing on its sociocultural dynamics and identity functions within secondary schools remains limited. The study was conducted at a private urban school in Jakarta with a predominantly Chinese-Indonesian student population. Using a qualitative sociolinguistic approach and an ethnographic case study design, data were collected through participant observation, recordings of spontaneous conversations, and in-depth interviews with 15 bilingual and multilingual students (Grades 10–12). The analysis involved classifying types of code-switching (intersentential, intrasentential, and tag-switching), identifying their social functions, and examining identity construction processes. Findings reveal that Indonesian–Mandarin–English code-switching operates as a strategic social practice. English is used to express prestige, intelligence, and global lifestyle; Mandarin functions as an ethnic solidarity marker; and Indonesian is employed in formal contexts, reflecting school hierarchies. These patterns are not random but serve as performative acts to negotiate social class, ethnicity, and global youth identity, reinforcing in-group boundaries. The study offers novel insights into multilingual identity construction among Chinese-Indonesian youths and contributes to sociolinguistic scholarship by linking language practices to social stratification and identity. Pedagogically, the findings inform more responsive language and curriculum policies for urban multilingual schools.

Abstract

Intestinal parasitic infections are a widespread global health issue and a leading cause of illness worldwide. School-aged children, particularly, are more vulnerable to contracting worm infections, emphasizing the need to prevent the harmful effects of these parasites. A survey of fecal examinations among elementary school children in Indonesia revealed a 25% prevalence of worm infections. The unequal distribution of health education in Indonesian society has led to a lack of awareness and understanding among the public, especially elementary school children, regarding healthy living practices to prevent these infections. To address this issue, a community service team has initiated a program to enhance knowledge about worms and promote healthy living behaviors through direct counseling. The success of this initiative is gauged by assessing the increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores. A total of 88 students from grades 4 and 5 participated in this program, achieving an average pre-test score of 94.70 points and an average post-test score of 97.35 points, indicating a 2.8% improvement in knowledge. While the post-test scores showed only a modest increase, the initiative aims to encourage the continued practice of healthy living behaviors among participants to prevent future illnesses. The team remains hopeful that participants will integrate these habits into their daily lives, reducing the risk of infections in the future.
