Abstract

Background: Aging process causes changes of the body composition, body posture, and physical performance. In elderly people, the decrease in muscle mass, muscle strength, and flexibility of body segments reduce the maximum height at the upright standing position. Objectives: This study was aimed to find out the effects of fitness dance for elderly (FDE) on stature/arm span ratio of non-trained old women in Yogyakarta. Methods: Pretest and posttest control design was used. The samples consisted of 30 non-trained healthy old women of Yogyakarta, aged 60-70 years. They were classified into three groups, each consisted of 10 women, namely: Group I (GI) was given FDE 3 days a week. Group II (Gill was given FDE 2 days a week, and non-treatment control group (CG). FDE is a low impact aerobic exercise, created by Association of Indonesian Sports Women, Yogyakarta Branch. The FDE in this research wasthe D series (low impact aerobic). The treatment was performed for 8 weeks, 40-54 minutes in each session. The intensity of exercise was maintained at 70-79% of maximal heart rate by controlling the musical beat. Before and after treatment (in the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th week), the subjects were measured using the stature and arm length anthropometry. This study was conducted in April-June 2003 at Kotagede, Yogyakarta. Results: The one way variance analysis among groups revealed that the ratio of stature/arm span was significantly improved (p

Abstract

Background: Postmenopausal women tend to increase the body fat percentage. A decline in estrogen level cause decrease in lipolytic process. Objective: To know the effect of moderate intensity physical exercise on body fat percentage in elderly women.Method: Pretest and posttest control design. A total amount of thirty, healthy women, 60-70 years old, was divided into three groups. The first group was treated by exercise three times a week, the second group was treated by exercise two times a week and the third group was a control group. The exercise used was D series of fitness dance for elderly created by PERWOSI Yogyakarta which is a low impact aerobic dance with moderate intensity (70-79 % maximal heart rate), 40-54 minutes/day for eight weeks.Result: The result showed that the first group revealed a significantly decrease in body fat percentage (p< 0.05). The second group revealed decrease no statistically significant in body fat percentage (p> 0.05), however there was a significant correlation between the duration of exercise and the body fat percentage (r = -0.9042).Conclusion: The low impact aerobic dance with moderate intensity, 40-54 minutes/day, three times a week, for eight weeks decreased body fat percentage.Key words: moderate intensity low impact aerobic dance - excercise frequency - body fat percentage -elderly women

Abstract

Background: The body flexibility of elderly people tends to decrease. One of the causes is the increased dehydration of the tissues that leads to adhesion formation. Objective: To investigate the effect of moderate intensity of low impact dance on body flexibility in untrained elderly women. Methods: Pretest and posttest control design. A total amount of thirty, healthy women, untrained, 60 - 70 years old was divided into three groups. The first group was treated by exercise three times a week, the second group two times a week and the third group was the control group. The exercise used was D series of fitness dance for elderly created by PERWOSI Yogyakarta which is a low impact aerobic dance with moderate intensity (70 - 79 % Maximal heart rate), 40 - 54 minutes/day. Three groups are treated for eight weeks. Results: The result showed that the first group revealed a significant increase in body flexibility (p<0,05) in the fourth week. The second group also revealed statistically significant increase in body flexibility (p<0,05) in the eighth week. The changes of body flexibility of the first group was higher and significant different compared to the second group. Conclusion: The low impact aerobic dance with moderate intensity, 40 - 54 minutes/day, performed three times a week in untrained elderly women increase the body flexibility earlier and higher than that of twice a week. Key words: moderate intensity low impact aerobic dance - exercise frequency - body flexibility-elderly women

Abstract

Background: Proof of footprints in forensic identification can be used in the determination of personal identification, for example the height. Estimated the height is done by measuring the length of footprints. Based on the literature, height was correlates directly with long bones. Footprints are made by the soles of the feet that are part of the long bones. The calculation of the height is more accurate using the formula derived from the population concerned so that testing needs to be done on each population. Objective: To find out whether there is a correlation between the length of the footprint of a person's height, especially the Javanese ethnic population and determine the estimation formula of height based on the length of the footprint. Methods: The study subjects consisted of 100 men and 100 Javanese ethnic women aged 21-30 years who were taken by consecutive sampling technique. Measurements were made by measuring subject height and footprint imprint then calculated each of the length of right and left footprints. Result: The average height of male Javanese ethnic is 172,36 cm and woman 158,45 cm. The average length of right and left footprints in males is 23,02 cm and female 22 cm. Pearson correlation test on all subjects had r value of 0.968 for right footprint and r 0.967 for left footprint. On the male subject has r value 0.908 for right foot print and r 0.902 for left footprint. In the female subject has r value 0.927 for the right foot print and r 0.931 for the left footprint. Conclusion: There is a strong relationship between the length of a person's footprint with height and this study has earned a formula of height estimation based on the length of the footprint on the Javanese. Abstract

As a community service, hospitals are a means to deal with health, recovery and health care issues. Potential hazards in the hospital may be caused by biological factors, chemical factors, ergonomics factors, physical factors and psychosocial factors. The dangers of the above factors can lead to workplace accidents or PAK which can cause a decrease in physical or mental ability, disability, or even death. To determine the relationship between management commitment and the incidence of work accidents at the Risk Unit in RSUD Kanjuruhan Malang Regency. Quantitative research, with cross sectional study and needed 55 hospital worker from 6 risk units. The result of Pearson correlation analysis of management commitment, OSH behavior and work shift have the significant correlation with work accident. Both of management commitment and OSH behavior have the negative correlation which mean that higher management and behavior can decrease the accidents. The result of multivariate test was obtained by F value of 9.93 with p=0,000 which means that management commitment, OSH behavior and work shift simultaneously have significant effect to work accident. There is a significant correlation between management commitment, OSH behavior and work shift with occupational accident.
