Abstract

This research focuses on exploring the quality management paradigm in Islamic education amidst social, cultural, and institutional changes. The background to this study is based on the fact that many Islamic educational institutions, particularly Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), face challenges in defining and implementing quality systematically amidst the continued dominance of traditional values. Using a qualitative, phenomenological approach, this research was conducted at Madrasah Diniyah Raudlatul Ulum, Situbondo, East Java. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation studies, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results reveal a tension between the traditional quality paradigm, based on spirituality and adab (ethics) and the systemic approach based on formal measurement and administrative indicators. The charismatic leadership of Islamic boarding schools plays a key role in determining the direction of quality transformation, while local social and cultural dynamics often contribute to resistance to the implementation of formal quality systems. These findings demonstrate that quality management in Islamic education is not merely a technical issue but also a matter of values, meaning, and context. The implications of this research point to the need to develop a quality management model based on local culture and values ​​that can bridge traditional and modern approaches harmoniously and contextually.

Abstract

This research examines the dynamics of integrative leadership at Ma'had Aly Nurul Jadid, particularly how a leader not only performs managerial functions but also maintains a scholarly presence through direct involvement in the tradition of transmitting “Kitab Kuning”s. The purpose of this research is to provide a comprehensive understanding of integrative leadership behaviour. The research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analysed using Miles and Huberman's data analysis technique, which consists of data reduction, data display, and verification/conclusion drawing. The results show that integrative leadership behaviour at Ma'had Aly is manifested in the leader's willingness to internalise the Amanah value, exemplary and moral will in implementing the sorogan tradition, and epistemic anxiety that drives the development of a scientific literacy movement. This research has implications for strengthening the concept of values-based Islamic educational leadership, particularly in the dimensions of epistemic leadership and cultural leadership. Thus, these findings indicate that effective Islamic boarding school leadership is not a dichotomy between bureaucracy and science, but rather an integration of both within a single figure who can maintain tradition while managing modern institutional demands.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang peran narasi positif dalam komunikasi antara sekolah dan masyarakat di era transformasi digital dengan tujuan memahami bagaimana narasi tersebut dapat membangun hubungan yang harmonis, meningkatkan keterlibatan, serta menciptakan kepercayaan di lingkungan pendidikan. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan analisis dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa narasi positif berfungsi sebagai alat strategis untuk memperkuat kepercayaan dan keterlibatan, namun efektivitasnya sangat bergantung pada keseimbangan antara keaslian, transparansi, dan inklusivitas dalam komunikasi. Narasi yang tidak autentik atau terlalu optimis cenderung menimbulkan ketidakpercayaan di kalangan audiens yang semakin kritis. Penelitian ini juga menyoroti pentingnya aksesibilitas teknologi dalam memastikan keterlibatan masyarakat secara menyeluruh. Implikasi dari penelitian ini mencakup kebutuhan untuk mengintegrasikan strategi narasi yang otentik dengan dukungan teknologi yang inklusif dalam membangun komunikasi sekolah-masyarakat yang lebih baik. Hasil ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengembangan teori komunikasi digital dengan menekankan interaksi antara teknologi, narasi, dan konteks lokal dalam membangun hubungan yang produktif. Untuk penelitian mendatang, direkomendasikan pendekatan multidisipliner dengan melibatkan variasi demografis yang lebih luas untuk memperluas generalisasi temuan.
