Abstract

This research is due to transmigration and cultural adaptation, where the movement of the Bugis community to Bandar Lampung required them to adapt their cultural traditions and practices to the new environment. This research is essential for uncovering cultural dynamics and the assimilation process and providing academic contributions and benefits to the Bugis community in Bandar Lampung. This research examines a cultural tradition, Maccera Tasi (sea alms ceremony), performed by the Bugis community in Bandar Lampung. Specifically, this study investigates whether this tradition has undergone a transformation and its role in preserving the Bugis cultural identity in diverse environments. This research employs a qualitative method with field research involving observation and interviews and an anthropological diffusion theory approach. The research results show that Maccera Tasi has experienced changes in the land of Lampung, such as implementation practices, meaning and symbolism, prayers and rituals, and socio-economic changes. Maccera Tasi is also the identity of the Bugis people who live in Bandar Lampung, so as an overseas ethnic minority, they can introduce the culture of sea parties to the broader community. The main findings show that this tradition is experiencing a process of Islamisation, integrating Islamic prayers and symbols with Islamic teachings. This study highlights the importance of understanding local context and external influences in cultural change and using diffusion theory to analyse the spread of cultural elements. This transformation allows overseas Bugis communities to maintain their cultural identity, strengthen communities and preserve cultural heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to critically examine the IKN relocation through the lens of Islamic ecological jurisprudence (fiqh al-bi’ah) and Islamic environmental ethics, by exploring the values of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and the principles of ecological spirituality as articulated by Seyyed Hossein Nasr. The research employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach, with prescriptive analysis of Islamic legal sources, scientific journals, environmental reports, and statutory regulations. The findings indicate that the IKN project potentially violates principles of ecological sustainability and neglects key Islamic values such as the prohibition of harm (lā ḍarar wa lā ḍirār), maintaining balance (mīzān), and the human responsibility as khalīfah (steward) of the Earth. Nasr interprets the ecological crisis as a manifestation of a deeper spiritual crisis, wherein modernity has severed humanity’s connection to the sacredness of nature. Islamic ecological jurisprudence and environmental ethics offer a new paradigm for development rooted in spiritual values, treating nature as an intrinsically valuable entity rather than a mere resource for exploitation. This study asserts that the IKN project requires deep ethical and ecological considerations to ensure long-term sustainability, including the involvement of Indigenous communities, forest conservation, and adherence to the principles of ecological justice within the Islamic worldview.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the impact of religious sounds in Bantul on the quality of daily life of local residents, especially in the context of noise originating from mosques as prayer spaces. Noise generated from prayer spaces which seem taboo in discussions in society has created new discussions. A qualitative approach was used in this research with data collection carried out by observation and interviews with several communities in Bantul. This research is to reveal the impact of religious sounds in Bantul worship spaces. The results of the research show that religious sounds in prayer rooms cause ongoing problems for the surrounding community related to excessive loudspeakers, such as disturbing individuals' privacy for resting, doing assignments and other activities that require peace. In conclusion, the impact of noise from the Worship Room reduces comfort and interferes with individual activities such as resting and studying. There needs to be stricter regulations regarding the use of loudspeakers and volume limits. Apart from that, the noise management strategy must involve various parties to evaluate the intensity and pattern of noise and provide education to the congregation and mosque administrators so that good communication can be created and does not harm any party.

Abstract

Background: The cultivation of religious moderation remains a crucial issue in Indonesia due to the persistent occurrence of religious conflicts across the country. Previous studies have highlighted the importance of educational institutions in promoting tolerance and inclusivity, yet few have focused on the role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Therefore, this study aims to explore the strategies and innovations implemented by Mathlaul Huda Islamic Boarding School in fostering religious moderation among its students. Methods: This study employed a qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The analysis was guided by Albert Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, which emphasizes that individuals learn through observation, imitation, and modeling. This theory served as the theoretical foundation to understand how moderate behaviors are transmitted through the daily practices of kyai (religious leaders), ustadz (teachers), and other influential figures within the boarding school community. Findings: The results revealed that innovation plays a vital role in the successful integration of religious moderation education in a traditional Islamic boarding school environment. Mathlaul Huda Islamic Boarding School has effectively cultivated moderate and tolerant students by implementing a moderation-based curriculum, inclusive teaching strategies, and community engagement programs. The school’s initiatives have contributed positively to building an inclusive and harmonious society that values diversity, tolerance, and respect. Conclusion: Mathlaul Huda Islamic Boarding School has successfully implemented innovative strategies to promote religious moderation and tolerance among students, providing a model for other Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study presents a unique exploration of how traditional Islamic boarding schools can integrate modern approaches and social learning theory to promote religious moderation, offering new insights into the practical application of innovation in religious education settings.

Abstract

Background: Administrative performance in schools plays a crucial role in ensuring effective management and educational quality. However, teachers and principals often face challenges related to workload and administrative complexity. This study aims to analyze the perspectives of school operators (OpS) on the administrative performance of teachers and principals, the obstacles encountered in administrative tasks, and their recommendations to overcome these challenges. Previous studies have shown that administrative burdens can affect teaching quality and leadership effectiveness, yet limited research has explored these issues from the perspective of school operators in Indonesia. Methods: This quantitative study employed a survey approach involving 493 respondents representing various educational levels across Indonesia. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to identify patterns, trends, and relationships among variables related to administrative performance. Findings: The majority of respondents came from Java Island, with a predominance of elementary school participants. Teachers’ administrative performance was generally rated as good, although they encountered obstacles such as heavy workloads, insufficient facilities, and frequent policy changes. Principals also demonstrated good administrative performance, particularly in communication and staff coordination, yet faced challenges related to limited time and coordination barriers. School operators recommended training in administrative technology, time management, and administrative leadership for improvement. Conclusion: The study concludes that continuous training, improved facilities, and consistent administrative policies are essential to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of school administrative performance. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study contributes new insights by presenting the unique perspectives of school operators regarding the administrative performance of teachers and principals in Indonesia, emphasizing the need for policy and management reforms to support more efficient school administration.
