Abstract

This research is rooted in the importance of inclusive education and the limitations experienced by students with Down Syndrome in language skills, particularly in reading. The Busy Book was chosen as an innovative solution to enhance students’ motivation, concentration, and reading ability through an engaging and interactive learning approach. The objective of this study is to analyze the development of reading skills in students with Down Syndrome at the elementary level using the Busy Book as a learning medium. This study employs a descriptive quantitative method, with data collected through reading tests and student response questionnaires conducted at SDI Al-Chusnaini, Sukodono. The research subjects consist of two students with Down Syndrome. The results indicate that the use of the Busy Book had a positive effect on students’ reading skills. The average increase in the reading test score of student 1 was 46.66%, while student 2 showed an improvement of 26.67%. Additionally, student 1’s response to the media showed a higher average score of 63.89% compared to student 2’s score of 52.78%. Student 1 demonstrated greater interest, focus, and independence, while student 2 tended to experience confusion and lacked focus. Thus, the Busy Book has proven to be effective in enhancing the reading skills of students with Down Syndrome at the elementary school level, with a recommendation to adjust the media according to the preferences and needs of each student.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes of students indicate that there are obstacles in understanding the subject matter which can be caused by learning strategies that are less interesting to the level of student development. This study aims to determine the effect of the joyful learning strategies on learning outcomes and student responses in IPAS subject in class IV of elementary school. Quantitative studies using a quasi-experimental design were the ones that were employed.  The study's control group design was a nonequivalent (pre- and post-test) type.  Fourth graders from Darul Ulum Elementary School made up the study's population.  The results showed that the control group had a mean score of pretest 69.39 and a posttest score of 83.39, lower than the mean score of the experimental group pretest 72.70 and posttest 88.09.  The findings of the questionnaire and data analysis methods such as the independent sample t-test corroborate this difference.  A significant value of 0.008 was obtained from the computation of the hypothesis test (T test).  The null hypothesis (H0) is rejected due to the significant value of 0.008 <0.05, suggesting that students' IPAS learning results in fourth grade are influenced by joyful learning strategy.  Similarly, when employing joyful learning, the student response questionnaire yielded an average score of 85%, indicating a positive reaction from the pupils.

Abstract

Learning outcomes are identifiable and measurable changes in an individual's behavior related to their knowledge, attitudes, and abilities in relation to classroom learning activities. Although students were divided into groups, researchers found that certain aspects of the students made them feel less involved in the classroom learning process. The purpose of this study was to use Talking Stick Candy learning materials to improve learning outcomes. Talking Stick Candy is an appropriate medium for IPAS learning because it is interactive and packaged in the form of a game. The research and development (R&D) technique developed by Borg and Gall was modified by the author. A total of 20 fourth-grade students from SDN Watukosek participated in this study. The material validation scored 91% (very good), and the media validation questionnaire scored 84% (very good). With the initial pre- test score falling into the good category at 44% and the post-test score rising to 80.9% in the very good category, student learning outcomes showed improvement. With a positive response rate of 88.83 (strongly agree), it can be concluded that fourth-grade students at SDN Watukosek responded positively to the use of the Talking Stick Candy media, which has proven successful in improving learning outcomes.
