Abstract

Globalization has heightened the need for English proficiency in specialized fields such as economics, hotel management, and tourism. English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses aim to equip students with relevant language skills, but questions remain about their effectiveness and alignment with industry needs. This study investigates students’ perceptions of ESP course design and delivery across five universities in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were collected through surveys and interviews with 108 students, focusing on course credit hours, instructional materials, teaching strategies, and the use of technology. Findings show that 65% of students preferred interactive methods, such as simulations and case studies, over traditional lectures. Students also emphasized the need for more practical writing tasks and role-playing opportunities. Limited access to technological tools, including virtual trading platforms, was identified as a barrier to effective learning. Using Activity Theory, the study examines the interplay between students, instructional tools, institutional rules, and learning goals. It highlights challenges such as insufficient credit hours and unequal access to technology. Interactive methods and collaborative tasks emerged as effective strategies for building job-relevant language skills. Enhancing ESP programs requires increasing credit hours, integrating advanced technological tools, and aligning content with professional contexts. These recommendations aim to improve the impact of ESP education and better prepare students for global careers.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui manajemen pengelolan zakat baik masa Khalifah Abu Bakar sampai sekarang dalam rangka meningkatkan ekonomi ummat, manfaat penelitian mengetahui sebesar apa kontribusi zakat bisa meningkatkan ekonomi ummat dan mengentaskemiskinan. Metode penelitian kualitatif dengan teknik literature review dengan ulasan kritis dari teori-teori yang ada. Temuan penelitian dimana zakat yang dikelola dengan manajemen zakat profesional dengan prinsip Good Corporate Governance terdiri dari empat prinsip, yaitu keadilan (fairness), transparansi (transparancy), akuntabilitas (accountability), dan tanggungjawab (responsibility). Hasil penelitian, manajemen zakat dapat meningkatkan ekonomi ummat dan berperang menyumbang sebesar 29,76% dari APBN tahun 2022.

Abstract

This study addresses the need for Islamic Economics graduates to acquire not only theoretical knowledge but also practical English communication skills, in order to meet the challenges of global economic integration and the Islamic finance industry. The research aims to redesign English for Economics courses by applying principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE). Using a qualitative descriptive design, this study analyzes curriculum documents, previous research, and case examples from Islamic universities to examine the integration of communicative competence, critical thinking, and contextual understanding into course design. The findings indicate that OBE-based instruction enhances students’ linguistic proficiency, professional readiness, and international engagement by aligning learning outcomes with industry requirements. The study contributes to curriculum development by offering a framework for implementing OBE in English for Islamic Economics. Its novelty lies in positioning OBE as a strategic approach to bridge the gap between traditional reading-focused instruction and the real-world communicative demands of Islamic economics education.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bahwa peluang usaha yang dijalankan bisa dimulai dari hobi yang biasanya kita lakukan. Melalui hobi yang dimiliki dengan mengembangkannya bisa dijadikan sebuah usaha yang menghasilkan pendapatan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu menggunakan metode kualitatif dan data primer. Hal ini dikarenakan data diperoleh melalui hasil observasi langsung dengan objek yang penulis teliti serta memperoleh sumber data dari wawancara secara langsung dengan pihak terkait pemilik usaha Garlid Adventure. Dalam mengembangkan hobi diperlukan adanya Percaya dan yakin bahwa usaha dapat dilaksanakan, Mau menerima gagasan, semangat kerja yang tinggi, Mampu berkomunikasi dengan baik, Bertanya pada diri sendiri, Mau mendengarkan saran orang lain. Peluang usaha juga harus dipersiapkan dengan matang. Jangan sampai peluang usaha hilang begitu saja hanya karena kecerobohan semata. Beberapa persiapan yang dapat dilakukan antara lain meneliti luas usaha yang dipilih, bentuk usaha, jenis usaha yang ditekuni, mengenal informasi usaha yang diterima, dan memiliki peta peluang usaha yang menguntungkan. Melalui penelitian yang dilakukan pada usaha Garlid Adventure meskipun tergolong UMKM tetapi,  usaha ini terbilang sukses hingga mempunyai beberapa cabang di berbagai kota, yakni Garlid Yogyakarta, Garlid Depok, Garlid Bojong, Garlid banten, Garlid Depok dua.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate how students majoring in subjects other than English, at the Syaria Banking Department in STES Manna Wa Salwa Tanah Datar Sumatera Barat, use social media, particularly YouTube, and to determine the impact it has on their speaking skills. The study was carried out using a descriptive qualitative design, with 25 participants selected from the Syaria Banking Department. The students were asked to speak on prepared topics in front of a phone camera, and five online meetings were held to assess their progress. A semi-structured interview was also conducted to gather more detailed supporting data. The findings indicate that using social media, particularly YouTube, had a positive impact on the speaking ability of non-English major students, as evidenced by iswsissefforts to improve their speaking skills, such as psychological factors (e.g. lack of motivation and confidence), environmental factors (e.g. relationship with their surroundings), and linguistic factors (e.g. finding references, selecting vocabulary, and using appropriate speaking style and gestures). The use of social media, especially YouTube, was found to be helpful in overcoming these obstacles and improving students' speaking ability.

Abstract

This research examines how pre-service teachers in Bukittinggi are taught and learn in their teaching practicum by using digital technology in the classroom. The focus of the study is on the obstacles they face due to the lack of teaching resources and the importance of using technology comprehensively, where teaching methodology and subject matter work together. Six pre-service teachers in Bukittinggi were invited to participate in the case study approach used in this research, which aims to gain an in-depth understanding of their experiences. Data was collected through video recordings of their teaching and learning process, in-person observations, interviews, and analysis of their lesson plans and teaching materials. Despite the pre-service teachers having strong knowledge and experience in using technology for classroom teaching, they often encounter difficulties when trying to implement it. This is primarily due to problems with the school's technology, poor internet connection, and limited support from their advisors. As a result, the pre-service teachers still prefer to use advanced technology devices and conventional teaching methods. The research highlights a significant difference between what the pre-service teachers have learned and how they apply it in their teaching practices. To help teachers use technology more efficiently, schools need to enhance their technology infrastructure and support. Penelitian ini mengkaji mengenai bagaimana para calon guru di Bukittinggi menerapkan proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran dalam praktik belajar mengajar mereka menerapkan teknologi digital di kelas. Penelitian ini berfokus pada tantangan yang dihadapi terhadap keterbatasan sumber daya pengajaran dan integrase penggunaan teknologi yang penting dilakukan secara komprehensif terhadap metode pengajaran, dan materi pelajaran. Terdapat enam mahasiswa yang merupakana calon guru di Bukittinggi yang dipilih sebagai responden dari penelitian ini. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian studi kasus untuk mengkaji secara mendalam mengenai pengalaman mereka dalam mengintegrasikan teknologi digital dalam proses belajar mengajar. Pengumpulan data dilalukan melalui perekaman video terhadap proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran dan obeservasi langsung, interview, serta analisis rencana pelajaran dan bahan pengajaran mereka. Meskipun mereka  memiliki pengalaman dan pengetahuan yang kuat tentang penggunaan teknologi untuk pengajaran kelas, mereka sering menghadapi kesulitan dalam menerapkannya ke dalam praktik kelas. Hal ini disebabkan oleh beberapa masalah tentang teknologi sekolah, koneksi internet yang buruk, dan keterbatasan dukungan dari guru pamong mereka. Hal itu menyebabkan penggunaan perangkat teknologi dan cara pengajaran konvensional masih lebih disukai untuk diterapkan oleh mereka. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara apa yang telah dipelajari oleh calon guru dengan penerapannya dalam praktik pengajaran mereka. Untuk membantu guru menggunakan teknologi secara lebih efisien, sekolah harus meningkatkan teknologi dan dukungan mereka. Kata Kunci:  mahasiswa calon guru, teknologi, praktek mengajar

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of company size, net profit margin (NPM), and debt-to-equity ratio (DER) on income smoothing practices in textile and garment companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2018 to 2022. Income smoothing is a managerial action designed to reduce profit fluctuations, thereby presenting a more stable financial performance and increasing stakeholder confidence. This quantitative research employs multiple linear regression analysis, accompanied by classical assumption tests, including normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation tests. The results show that partially, company size, NPM, and DER each have a significant effect on income smoothing. Simultaneously, these three variables also significantly influence income smoothing practices, with an explanatory power of 85.7%. These findings suggest that the combination of firm size, profitability, and capital structure significantly contributes to managerial decisions related to income smoothing. This research enriches empirical evidence on earnings management behaviour. It provides implications for investors, auditors, and regulators in evaluating the quality of financial reporting and corporate transparency within Indonesia’s textile and garment sector.
