Abstract

The purpose of this research is to design a qualitative research method. In collecting data 30 students and five students were randomly. The research design used questionnaires and interviews. The results of data analysis show that the motivation to learn English in the new normal is high, making them want to go back to school; compared to online learning, students are easier to understand and can achieve learning achievement by returning to school. Based on the statement above, the researcher concludes that it can help students with their willingness to learn again in school in the new normal

Abstract

Research objectives describe what researchers want to achieve through research. This research will apply a qualitative descriptive design. Therefore, to find out the learning strategies applied by successful speaking students, the subjects in this research were students of Tadulako University, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, class C English Education 2018. This research aims to determine the learning strategies used by successful EFL students in speaking English. The subject of this research is students who get grades B+ to A in speaking four; 15 participants were obtained from DPNA and used the purposive sampling technique, and respondents who had good answers continued to the interview stage. This interview stage uses a snowball sampling research technique. Data collection uses a google forms questionnaire and interviews. As for the strategies, There are five strategies that the researcher obtained through interviews and from the 15 statements in the questionnaire, two strategies became the dominant strategy used. The highest percentage was 2 with 60% results, and other questions were brought from 60%

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of mastering the structure of the text to improve students’ writing skills in personal letters by mastering the structure of the text at second-year students of MA. Alkhairaat Biromaru. This is a classroom action research. The object of this research is the second-year students of MA. Alkhairaat Biromaru consisting 21 students. This research was conducted in two cycles. The researchers used tests, observation for teachers and students, and LKS (project paper activity) to collect the data. The test research results show that the students’ writing skills in personal letters by mastering the structure of the text can be improved from the first cycle to the second one. The students’ test results can prove it in the first cycle, the classical competence percentage is 47,61%, and the classical absorption presentation is 60,95% can be improved to 85,71% for classical competence presentation and 83,33% for classical absorption presentation in cycle II. It means that the students’ writing skills in personal letters can be improved by mastering the structure of the text.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the kind of error frequently made by the students in using simple present tense in descriptive text and the source of errors made by the students. This research is qualitative descriptive. The subject was selected by using purposive sampling. The subject of the research was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Palu consisting of 30 students. The techniques for collecting the data were tests and questionnaires. The researcher used the technique of analyzing the data from Ellis and Barkhuizen. The steps to analyze the data were collecting data, identification, description, explanation, and evaluation. The result indicates four types of errors namely omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The most frequent error made by the student was omission and the least frequent error was misordering. The interlingual transfer was the highest gradation of possible source of students' error in using simple present tense.

Abstract

The purpose of this research are two folds: to find out the teaching strategies used by the English teacher at MAN 2 Kota Palu, and to identify the reasons of implementing the strategies in the classroom. This research used qualitative research design. The participant of this research were two English teacher. In collecting the data, the instrument used were observation and interview . the data analyzed by using descriptive analysis. The findings showed that there were some teaching strategies used by the teachers in teaching English. The strategies used by the teacher in teaching English were: (1) the use of video like writing recount text and favorite song (by relying on learning topic), (2) reading text book, (3) translation (by looking up dictionary), and (4) asking question. The main reason reason of implementing teaching strategies was, they wanted to make the students active in the class. The basic consideration as an active facilitator in choosing the teaching strategies was to make classroom atmosphere that can make the students interact freely with each other in achieving learning goals.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to investigate and describe the students level of simple past tense and dificullties faced by Grade VIII Students SMP Negeri 2 Tinombo Selatan in Simple Past Tense. The research was conducted throught descriptive qualitative research design. Data analysis of the students Simple Past Tense on Regular and Iregular verb, It is found that the students level in Simple Past Tense is poor level since thay have limited knowledge english. In line with it, most of them understood the question, yet some of them found of dificcult to respomd to the questions immediatly. Furthermore, the problem faced by the students regarding simple past tense are lack vocabulary and regular Irregular verb. Problem of vocabulary was signified by the fact the students difficult answer the questions, and Regular Irregular verb problem in simple past tense was signified by the students difficult differences regular and irregular verb

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve if using the U-Dictionary Application can improve the vocabulary of eighth-grade students. The researchers applied quasi experimental research design. The experimental group consisted of 25 students, while the control group also consisted of 25 students. The data were collected using a test administered twice; it was in the form of a pre-test and a post-test. The data were analyzed statistically. The results of the data analysis showed that the t-counted value (2.14) was higher than the t-table (1.677). It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using U-Dictionary Application can improve the vocabulary of eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Palu.

Abstract

The objective of this research was prove that the use of pictures can develop the students skill to write recount text. The research applied quasi experimental research design that involved experimental group and a control group. The sample of this research was 45students, which where divided into 22 students of class A as the experimental group and 23 students of class B as the control group. The sample was selected by using purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researchers used test, the test was used pre-test and post-test. Then, the data were analyzed statistically. Having analyzed the data, it was revealed that there were different score obtained from control group and experimental group. In other words, t-counted (3,70) was higher than t-table (1,681). It means that the research hypothesis is accepted. In conclusion, that the use of pictures can develop the students writing skill to the eighth grade of SMP SATAP Negeri 1 Ampibabo.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to describe how to use HelloTalk in teaching English and to know from the review whether the use of HelloTalk can improve the students’ writing ability. The study applied qualitative research that implemented Library Research Method. The data were collected from scientific writings on the use of HelloTalk in improving writing ability between 2019 and 2024. The findings indicate that HelloTalk can significantly improve students' writing ability by fostering collaboration, creativity, real-time interaction, out-of-class practice, grammar and vocabulary reinforcement, and personalized feedback. HelloTalk is a valuable tool for teachers to enhance English language teaching and promote students' writing development.Teachers are encouraged to integrate HelloTalk into their English language curriculum to leverage its various features and benefits for improving students' writing skills. Further research could explore the long-term effects of HelloTalk on writing proficiency and investigate its potential in different educational contexts.

Abstract

This research is aimed to identify students’ problems of listening comprehension skill. The researcher took the third semester students as the respondents in this research. The research design used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. 15 students out of 294 students were selected as the respondents. They were given questionnaire to collect the data for this qualitative research. Questionnaire result was analyzed based on thematic analysis procedures. Questionnaire was done by given twenty assessment prepared. Based on the result of this research, the students had three major problems in learning listening comprehension, first length and speed and variety accent, second lack of vocabulary and the last is lack of concentration. From the results of these findings, the researcher suggests two strategies. First for the students, the students are expected to be able to practice and get used to hearing various accents and different speed variations. Regular vocabulary practice looking for relevant learning resources can improve students’ vocabulary and the last is prioritizing listening, active involvement, and applying concentration techniques can help students overcome concentration disorders and improve students’ listening comprehension. Second, for the lecturer by knowing students’ problems learning listening comprehension, the lecturer can effectively support students in improving their listening skills and achieve better results for students to learning listening comprehension skills.
