Abstract

This research aims to discover students' perception of learning English vocabulary through Fast Vocabulary Game. A qualitative approach was used in this research. The subject was the grade VII students at SMPN 2 Dapurang Pasangkayu who have experienced using the Fast Vocabulary Game. The instruments used were questionnaires and interview questions. There were nine questions in the questionnaires filled out by five respondents. Two informants answered five questions in the interview. The result indicates that students' perception of learning English vocabulary through Fast Vocabulary is dominantly positive. Learning English vocabulary using the game is easy, enjoyable, fun, and accessible as long as an internet connection is available. The vocabulary that is available in the game is easy to understand. Fast vocabulary game makes it easier for students to learn and memorize new vocabulary.

Abstract

Research objectives describe what researchers want to achieve through research. This research will apply a qualitative descriptive design. Therefore, to find out the learning strategies applied by successful speaking students, the subjects in this research were students of Tadulako University, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, class C English Education 2018. This research aims to determine the learning strategies used by successful EFL students in speaking English. The subject of this research is students who get grades B+ to A in speaking four; 15 participants were obtained from DPNA and used the purposive sampling technique, and respondents who had good answers continued to the interview stage. This interview stage uses a snowball sampling research technique. Data collection uses a google forms questionnaire and interviews. As for the strategies, There are five strategies that the researcher obtained through interviews and from the 15 statements in the questionnaire, two strategies became the dominant strategy used. The highest percentage was 2 with 60% results, and other questions were brought from 60%

Abstract

This research aims to find out the teaching English process during e-learning classes at SMP Negeri 6 Palu. This research was conducted through a descriptive qualitative research design in which the results are transcribed and described. The subjects of this research were three English teachers at SMP Negeri 6 Palu. This research used interviews to collect the data. Based on the research findings, the teaching English process during e-learning classes was first the teacher preparing before e-learning classes, the teacher preparing media such as modules, laptops, attendance lists, materials to be taught and applications for online teaching such as Zoom, Google Meet and Whatsaap. Second, the teacher finds a way to make students active during e-learning classes. The teacher provides activities that can make students active such as giving projects video, asking students to retell stories, and doing questions and answers. Third, in teaching English during e-learning classes, the teachers used videos, pictures, songs, and games to convey the material depending on what material will be taught by the teachers. Fourth, problem faced by the teachers during e-learning classes, some of the teacher's problems when teaching English online, only a few students take a zoom class, and some students do not have communication tools such as cellphones or laptops. Thus, as much as possible, the teacher provides a solution to the problems.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the difficulties in writing descriptive text faced by the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Palu. The researcherss applied descriptive quantitative design. There were 10 students involved. The instrument of data collection was a writing text. The data were collected by asking the students to write a descriptive text. The findings show that the most difficulty of writing in each aspect was mechanics 77.16% of students, grammar 21.1% of students, vocabulary 1.23% of students and content and organization 0% of students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the students’ learning outcomes in writing paragraphs. There are five indicators in writing descriptive paragraphs: content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Its subjects were eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ampibabo. From a total population of 80 students, 25 students were selected as the sample of the research. This research applied descriptive research design. In collecting data, the researcher gave a test of writing descriptive paragraphs to the students to find out their ability of students in writing paragraphs. In this case, the highest score of 25 students in the class, was 95 which is considered an excellent level. The lowest result gets a score of 40 which is considered the fair level. Thus, generally, the students’ mean score of writing ability particularly in writing paragraphs was 63.2 and it was considered a good level of ability. Thus, from the data presentation, it can be concluded that the learning outcomes in the writing paragraph of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ampibabo were at a good level.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out vocabulary learning strategies applied by the students and also the most frequently applied strategies. In this research, the researchers ought to find vocabulary learning strategies-based Schmitt’s taxonomy due to the fact that it is a comprehensive inventory of vocabulary learning strategies that covers all of strategies commonly applied by English learners. This research applied quantitative research method with survey approach. Population of this study was the whole of the seven grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Witaponda in academic year of 2021/2022. The subjects of this research were grade eight students in SMP Negeri 1 WitaPonda By quota sampling, the participants in this study were 5 representative students of each class which would be 30 in total. The instrument used in this research was questionnaire, based on Schmitt's (1997) taxonomy. Based on the findings, the researcher concludes that there are several strategies used by the students. They are 1) using electronic dictionary to know the meaning of the word, 2) using Indonesian-English dictionary, 3) connecting one word to word related with it, 4) seeing description in text to explain meaning of a word, 5) labeling English word on object for helping them to remember vocabulary. The second conclusion is the most dominant strategies used by the students is determination strategies.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to describe how to use HelloTalk in teaching English and to know from the review whether the use of HelloTalk can improve the students’ writing ability. The study applied qualitative research that implemented Library Research Method. The data were collected from scientific writings on the use of HelloTalk in improving writing ability between 2019 and 2024. The findings indicate that HelloTalk can significantly improve students' writing ability by fostering collaboration, creativity, real-time interaction, out-of-class practice, grammar and vocabulary reinforcement, and personalized feedback. HelloTalk is a valuable tool for teachers to enhance English language teaching and promote students' writing development.Teachers are encouraged to integrate HelloTalk into their English language curriculum to leverage its various features and benefits for improving students' writing skills. Further research could explore the long-term effects of HelloTalk on writing proficiency and investigate its potential in different educational contexts.
