Abstract

The implementation of regional autonomy since 25 years has had a significant impact on the development of districts / cities in Indonesia. The high urbanization trend in several provinces on the island of Sumatra such as Riau Province has implications for the growth and development of Pekanbaru City as a center of government, education, business, tourism, services and trade. The Sustainable City Development Strategy in Achieving SDGs in Pekanbaru City uses the Pentagon Prism theory from Nijkamp (1994) as a development paradigm and New Urban Agenda (NUA) to guide the Regional Government to achieve the Sustainable City vision of Pekanbaru Smart City Madani, namely (1) Socioware, (2) Orgware, (3) Finware, (4) Technoware (5) Ecoware which is combined with the Smart City concept which consists of 6 indicators, namely (1) Smart Governance, (2) Smart People, (3) Smart Economy, (4) Smart Transportation, (5) Smart Environment, (6) Smart Living. From the 11 indicators above, the Pekanbaru City Government has carried out various policies both in the form of regulations in the form of Mayor Regulations, as well as in the form of programs and activities that have been implemented since 2019. However, because the problems faced are very complex while resources are limited, these indicators have not been met optimally. As a strategy to accelerate the achievement of SDGs that must be achieved by 2030, the Pekanbaru City Government collaborates with relevant stakeholders (collaborative governance).

Abstract

The degradation of mangrove ecosystems and declining populations of mangrove crabs (Scylla sp.) in the coastal areas of Bengkalis necessitate the implementation of sustainable management strategies that integrate ecological and economic aspects. This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of the Sekat Bakau Group in Buruk Bakul Village through education and training in jerry can-based silvofishery systems as an environmentally friendly aquaculture innovation. Activities were conducted from June to December 2024, involving 20 participants through three phases: planning, implementation, and evaluation using a pre-test post-test design. Results demonstrate a significant increase in participants' knowledge from an average of 60.3% (pre-test) to 90.5% (post-test), accompanied by successful technical skill transfer in constructing jerry can-based aquaculture units. The program successfully fostered ecological awareness, practical skills, and community readiness for silvofishery implementation, although field validation is required to measure actual economic and ecological impacts. The participatory educational approach proved effective as an empowerment strategy for coastal communities in realizing sustainable fisheries resource management

Abstract

Zero-waste lifestyle education is a strategic approach to addressing the waste problem in Perhentian Marpoyan Village. With increasing population and economic activity, the volume of waste generated is increasing, threatening environmental cleanliness and health. This study aims to provide public understanding of the importance of adopting a zero-waste lifestyle, focusing on the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R). The methods used included outreach and hands-on practice in waste management. Health education was conducted in Perhentian Marpoyan Village. The media used for the education included laptops, n-focus, and leaflets. The education methods used were lectures and question-and-answer discussions. The results of this education showed increased environmental awareness and active community participation in waste management. Participants' knowledge increased from 45% to 80%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the zero-waste lifestyle education method. Through a series of workshops, education sessions, and awareness campaigns, the community was encouraged to change their daily consumption patterns and behaviors. Thus, implementing a zero-waste lifestyle is expected to create a cleaner and healthier environment and create a community committed to sustainability.
