Abstract

In 2022, WHO (World Hearth Organization) found that infant mortality rate was 560,000 caused by umbilical cord infection. In Southeast Asian countries, it is estimated that there are 220,000 infant deaths caused by unclean umbilical cord care. Umbilical cord care is to treat and tie the umbilical cord which causes physical separation of mother and baby. Then, the umbilical cord is treated in a clean condition and free from umbilical cord infection. Good and correct umbilical cord care will have a positive impact, namely the umbilical cord will "fall off" on the 5th to 7th day without any complications, while the negative impact of improper umbilical cord care is that the baby will experience neonatal tetanus and can result in death. The study was conducted in February – April 2025. This study is an Analytical Correlation study, namely to determine the mother's knowledge about umbilical cord care in babies aged 0-14 days. The population in this study were all postpartum mothers who had babies aged 0-14 days at the Delima clinic with 30 respondents. From the results of the study conducted, it can be concluded that from 30 respondents who had good knowledge, there were 6 respondents (20%), who had sufficient knowledge, 11 respondents (36.67%) and who had poor knowledge, 13 respondents (43.33%). It is expected that health workers, especially midwives, will provide counseling on umbilical cord care for babies aged 0-14 days.
