Abstract

This study examines the use of speech acts by Prabowo Subianto in his interview at the 2024 Qatar Economic Forum and explains how his language reflects Indonesia’s global economic strategy. It focuses on identifying and categorizing the speech acts used by Prabowo, focusing on locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary aspects to understand how his communication influences both domestic and international audiences. The study employs a qualitative approach, analyzing the interview transcript of Prabowo Subianto using Searle’s theory of speech acts and Austin’s framework for a deeper interpretation. The results reveal that Prabowo predominantly uses assertive (66%), expressive (14%), and commissive (16%) speech acts, projecting confidence and commitment to Indonesia’s economic growth. While directive acts (4%) were less frequent, they were strategically used to challenge critics and reinforce his legitimacy. The findings highlight the significant role of language in shaping perceptions of a country’s economic vision on the global stage. This study underscores the significance of speech acts in shaping political discourse and offers insights into the strategic deployment of language by political leaders in international forums.

Abstract

Considering its important role in applied English Linguistics, several authors have studied lexical bundles (LBs). The previous studies mainly compared the LBs between genres and among native and non-native speakers. There has yet to be any study that combines the LBs from each section of the same academic writing and the LBs of two related disciplines. This study investigates the types and structures of LBs in three rhetorical sections—Introduction, Materials and Methods, and Results and Discussion—of academic articles in the fields of Communications and Linguistics. A corpus of 3,753 journal articles (1,563 in Communications and 2,190 in Linguistics) was compiled from PLOS ONE using AntCorGen, and analyzed using AntConc Sowftware. Extended lexical bundles (four- to six-word sequences) were extracted based on frequency and dispersion thresholds. TThis study found that the variation of LBs is not only different by disciplines but also by the sections. The cooccurrence of LBs in Communication Introduction and Method is less compared to Linguistics. LBs in Communication suggest a more straightforward and clear method of conveying information. Meanwhile, Linguistics shows complexity competence and greater engagement with abstract concepts and specialized vocabulary. The trends of dominant LB structure in every section are preposition and noun-based LBs, which have higher writing quality and complexity. The study expected to highlight the importance of LBs in academic writing.

Abstract

The development of information technology and the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) have changed the way students’ access, assess, and utilize information in academic activities. In the Islamic Religious College (PTKI) environment such as IAIN Curup, this condition encourages the transformation of the role of librarians from technical implementers to academic partners and information literacy facilitators. This study aims to explore in depth how librarians carry out their educational role in improving student information literacy in the digital era. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model with validity maintained through triangulation and member checking. The theoretical framework used includes: The librarian’s guide to learning theory (Medaille, 2024), The research information’s theory (Walter & Wilder, 2022), and dynamic social interaction theory (Turner, 2023). The results of the study show that IAIN Curup librarians have functioned as digital information educators, academic partners, and institutional knowledge managers. However, this role has not been fully structured in institutional policies. Integration of information literacy into the curriculum, pedagogical training, and cross-role collaboration are needed. This study recommends strengthening librarian professionals through networks and Islamic scientific approaches such as tahqiq to form a reflective and ethical academic culture.
