Character building of students is the main goal of elementary education that can be achieved through various approaches, one of which is by integrating local wisdom into Indonesian language learning. This literature study aims to examine various research findings on how local wisdom can be utilized in Indonesian language learning to foster the character of elementary school students. Previous research shows that local content derived from folklore, proverbs, pantun, and oral traditions has great potential in instilling character values such as honesty, responsibility, caring, and respect for diversity. Through the literature study method from various relevant national and international journals, the results of this study emphasize the importance of involving local culture in the learning process so that students are not only proficient in the language, but also have strong cultural roots and personalities. Learning that is contextual to the local culture has proven to be more meaningful and able to increase student motivation and involvement in the learning process. Therefore, the integration of local wisdom in Indonesian language learning in elementary schools is an important strategy in character education. This study recommends the development of local wisdom-based teaching materials and teacher training to be able to implement learning that is based on cultural values.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of teachers in fostering literary appreciation through poetry reading activities in the lower grades of Kesaud State Elementary School (SDN), Serang City. Literature, especially poetry, has great potential in shaping sensitivity, enriching vocabulary, and fostering children's imagination and empathy. However, literature learning at the elementary level is often still textual and less interesting for students. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews with grade I and II teachers, and documentation of the learning process. The results of the study show that teachers act as facilitators, motivators, and models in expressing poetry expressively and enjoyably. Teachers who use communicative poetry reading methods, such as rhythmic reading, body movements, and facial expressions, have been shown to be able to attract students' attention and increase their interest in literature. In addition, student involvement in rereading favorite poems is also an effective strategy in fostering a love for literary works. This study recommends the importance of teacher training in creative poetry reading techniques and the provision of relevant and interesting children's literature teaching materials. Thus, literary appreciation among elementary school students can be instilled early on through a fun and meaningful approach

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between reading interest and literary appreciation ability in fifth grade students at SDN 2 Bojongmenteng, Lebak Regency. The background of this study is based on the fact that low reading interest in students often results in a lack of ability to appreciate literary works, such as poetry, fairy tales, and folk tales. Literary appreciation requires emotional and intellectual involvement that is closely related to reading habits. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The subjects of the study were all 30 fifth grade students. The instruments used were a reading interest questionnaire and a literary appreciation ability test that had been validated by experts. The results of data analysis using the Pearson correlation test showed a positive and significant relationship between reading interest and literary appreciation ability with a correlation coefficient value of 0.678 and a significance of 0.001 <0.05. This shows that the higher the students' reading interest, the better their ability to appreciate literary works. This study recommends that teachers increase literacy activities through integrated reading activities and provide stimuli in the form of literary works that are appropriate to the students' development level. This finding provides a basis that strengthening reading interest needs to be a focus in learning Indonesian, especially in the literary aspect.

Abstract

Learning Indonesian in elementary schools requires an approach that is not only cognitive but also contextual and adaptive to current developments. Banten's local wisdom, rich in noble values such as respect for nature, social solidarity, and ethical communication, offers significant potential for integration into learning. Furthermore, the computational thinking (CT) approach, which emphasizes logical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, is increasingly relevant in 21st-century education. This literature study aims to explore the synergy between Banten's local wisdom values and CT principles in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level. This research employed a qualitative approach based on literature review, reviewing various articles, journals, books, and recent educational documents. The study's findings indicate that the synergy between local values and CT can improve literacy skills and critical thinking skills, as well as foster adaptive student character while remaining rooted in local culture. Local wisdom values can be used as context for CT assignments such as narrative algorithms and the decomposition of regional story texts. This study recommends the systematic integration of local culture into CT-based learning within the Indonesian language curriculum and learning strategies.

Abstract

The transformation of education in the digital era demands renewed learning strategies, including in Indonesian language lessons in elementary schools. One emerging innovative approach is deep learning, a form of in-depth learning that emphasizes conceptual understanding, critical reflection, and the connection of knowledge to students' real-life experiences. This study aims to explore the implementation of the deep learning approach in Indonesian language instruction in elementary schools, specifically at SD Negeri 2 Bojongmenteng, and its impact on improving students' literacy competencies. The method used was qualitative research with a case study approach. Data collection techniques included classroom observations, teacher and student interviews, and analysis of learning documents. The results indicate that the deep learning approach is able to increase active student participation, deepen text comprehension, and facilitate critical and creative thinking skills. Project-based learning, digital media integration, and structured reflection are key to the successful implementation of this approach. However, challenges such as teacher preparedness, limited facilities, and the need for digital pedagogy training remain obstacles. This study recommends strengthening teacher competencies in designing deep learning-based lessons and providing supporting resources. Thus, the transformation of Indonesian language instruction in elementary schools can be more meaningful and relevant to the demands of the 21st century.

Abstract

Children's literature learning in elementary schools has a strategic role in shaping character and developing students' creativity. Children's literature, which includes folk tales, fables, children's poetry, and fairy tales, not only provides entertainment, but is also full of moral and social values. This literature study aims to explore various approaches and practices of children's literature learning that can foster positive characters such as honesty, empathy, and responsibility, while stimulating the imagination and creative thinking skills of elementary school students. The literature study method was carried out by reviewing various national and international reference sources over the past 5 years. The results of the study show that children's literature learning that is carried out interactively, contextually, and project-based can increase student involvement, strengthen character values, and encourage creative expression through activities such as drawing, rewriting stories, and role-playing. With the integration of digital media, such as audiobooks and interactive comics, literature learning becomes more interesting and relevant to the lives of today's children. This study recommends the need to strengthen teacher competence in managing transformative literature learning and the development of a curriculum that places children's literature as the main medium for character education and creativity.

Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence technology, particularly deep learning, opens up new opportunities for developing Indonesian language and literature literacy at the elementary school level. Furthermore, local wisdom, as part of the nation's cultural identity, holds significant potential for strengthening literacy learning that is contextual, meaningful, and relevant to children's lives. This article presents a literature review on the synergy between deep learning and local wisdom in developing Indonesian language and literature literacy in elementary school children. Deep learning plays a role in providing technology-based learning media, such as interactive applications, automatic text analysis, and reading recommendation systems that can be tailored to children's abilities. Meanwhile, local wisdom provides content rich in cultural, moral, and social values, enabling children not only to acquire literacy skills but also to foster a sense of national identity and character. The review shows that the integration of these two aspects can create an adaptive, creative, and inclusive literacy ecosystem. Literacy is understood not only as reading and writing skills but also as a means of strengthening imagination, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding. This study emphasizes the need for a collaborative approach between deep learning technology and local wisdom to improve the quality of Indonesian language and literature learning in elementary schools, while simultaneously preparing a literate, character-driven, and globally competitive golden generation.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes the importance of contextual and project-based learning, including in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level. However, the reality in the field shows that many teachers still have difficulty in implementing this approach optimally. This community service activity aims to provide assistance to teachers at SDN Bama 3 so that they are able to design and implement Indonesian language learning based on literacy projects effectively and in accordance with the characteristics of students. The method of implementing the activity consists of initial observation, intensive training, learning simulations, and direct assistance in planning and implementing literacy projects in the classroom. The results of this activity show an increase in teachers' understanding of the concept of project-based learning, the ability to design literacy-based teaching tools, and high enthusiasm in integrating creative reading and writing activities into Indonesian language learning. Students also showed more active involvement and interest in literacy activities. Thus, this assistance makes a positive contribution to improving the quality of Indonesian language learning at SDN Bama 3. In the future, similar programs can be expanded to other schools to strengthen a culture of literacy from an early age.

Abstract

Visual literacy skills are one of the important aspects in supporting elementary school students' literacy skills, especially in learning Indonesian. However, most of the teaching materials are still dominated by conventional texts that are less interesting for students. This community service activity aims to improve students' visual literacy through the use of educational comic media for children in learning Indonesian. This program was implemented at SDN Karundang 1, Serang City and involved teachers and students in grades IV and V. The implementation method was carried out through stages of socialization, teacher training, comic-based learning assistance, and evaluation. The educational comics used contained short stories with interesting illustrations that contained character values and Indonesian language learning topics according to the curriculum. The results of the activity showed an increase in student enthusiasm in participating in learning, an increase in the ability to understand the contents of the reading, and student creativity in responding to visual texts. Teachers also acknowledged the ease of delivering material through visual media. Thus, the use of educational comics has proven effective as a means of strengthening visual literacy in learning Indonesian at the elementary school level. This program is expected to be a model for strengthening visual literacy in other schools.
