Abstract

This research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) that aimed to investigate the implementation of PjBL method in speaking class through generating English Podcast and to find out students’ perception on the application of PjBL method and English podcast project in speaking class. This research was conducted in 2 cycles by involving 37 students of English Literature Study Program, Universitas Halu Oleo and by using Kemmis and Mc Taggart (1988) model. The data were collected through observing, interviewing and doing speaking test. The results of cycle 1 showed that there was 27,03% of total students who achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria with the mean score of 61,02. However, in the cycle 2, there was 94,60% of total students who achieved the Minimum Mastery Criteria with the mean score of 72,08. The results indicated that the implementation of PjBL through generating English Podcast in Speaking class could improve students’ speaking skill. Moreover, students perceived positively the application of PjBL through creating English podcast project. The PjBL method gets students actively involved in the learning process, encourages them to think creatively and improves their collaboration and communication skills as they work on the project. Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang strategi penolakan yang digunakan oleh masyarakat dalam konteks jual beli pada media sosial Facebook dalam grup Kendari Jual Beli (KJB) di Kota Kendari. Penelitian ini dilandasi keunikan-keunikan berbahasa yang ditemukan dalam transaksi jual beli online maupun transaksi langsung oleh masyarakat Kota Kendari. Dalam transaksi jual beli, ditemukan bentuk penolakan yang beragam ketika pembeli dan penjual bertransaksi. Untuk dapat menolak penawaran penjual secara halus atau sopan, pembeli menggunakan strategi-strategi tertentu supaya ungkapan penolakan dapat diterima dengan baik. Dengan begitu, kesalahpahaman dapat diminimalisir dan proses transaksi dalam kegiatan jual beli dapat mencapai kesepakatan bertransaksi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ditemukan strategi dalam tuturan penolakan yaitu strategi tindak tutur literal dan tidak literal. Bentuk-bentuk penolakan dalam jual beli online di grup KJB Kendari berupa penolakan dengan mengucapkan terimakasih, penolakan dengan menawar harga, penolakan dengan melakukan penghindaran, penolakan dengan mempertahankan minat, penolakan dengan menyatakan komentar, penolakan dengan meminta maaf, penolakan dengan berjanji, penolakan dengan menggunakan kata jangan, penolakan dengan memberikan alasan, dan penolakan dengan mengusulkan pilihan lain.

Abstract

This study investigates the student’s utterances during the learning process. This study focuses on some aspects of interference and integration such as: Interference phonolgy, Interference Syntaksis, Interference Morphology and Integration. This research employs descriptive qualitative. The sources of data in this research were taken from 3rd Semester students of French Literature at Halu Oleo University while the data in this research are in the form of utterances. The data is analysed using Jendra (1991:108) theory of Interference and Weinrich (1970:64-65) theory of factors that cause interference. The result showed that from the 8 data, only 2 were exist type of interference, namely Interference phonology and Interference Syntaxis, and 4 data for Integration. Where the factor causes the interference are bilingualism and Carrying out Mother Language Habits.

Abstract

Table manner merupakan etika tentang cara duduk, makan, dan minum selama perjamuan makan. Mahasiswa Prodi Sastra Inggris di Universitas Halu Oleo mendapatkan pengalaman yang berharga dan pengetahuan yang bermanfaat melalui pelatihan table manner ini. Kegiatan table manner akan menjadi bekal bagi mahasiswa setelah lulus kuliah dan mulai bekerja. Selain itu, etika makan ini juga dapat diterapkan dalam keidupan sehari-hari. Etika makan dapat berbeda dari budaya satu dengan yang lainnya. Selama kegiatan, mahasiswa belajar tentang etika makan, termasuk mengetahui budaya makan secara global, alat makan yang digunakan, dan cara makan dengan sopan. Tata cara makan melibatkan etika makan yang dapat menunjukkan kepribadian seseorang selain hanya bagaimana memasukkan makanan ke dalam mulut. Selama pelatihan ini mahasiswa diajarkan bagaimana duduk dengan benar, menggunakan alat makan dengan tepat, mengetahui jenis hidangan yang ada dalam perjamuan makan, cara bersikap di atas meja makan, dan bagaimana berkomunikasi dengan baik.

Abstract

Media and power are inseparable. In this context, Netflix uses its authority including intellectual agents behind the scenes who have an interest in spreading the doctrine of LGBT ideology and gender inclusion so that it can be accepted by the public including children who are considered vulnerable. This study inquires how LGBT ideology is reproduced in the form of children's animation themes. This study focuses on the pattern of interaction and the spread of LGBT ideology packaged in the form of a children's movie commodity entitled Nimona. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach involving library research. This study shows that the existence of LGBT practices depicted through two prominent characters is no longer shown as a taboo and immoral commodity but is considered as something normal and worthy of consumption and respect.

Abstract

Abstract: Writing a scientific journal is not only carried out by teachers, lecturers, or researchers, but is also carried out by students, especially the final-year students in preparing to write scientific journal as prerequisite for their graduation. The aim of this training programme is to hone students’ writing skill in creating clear, structures, and scientific journal reports. Apart from the writing aspect, it is hoped that scientific journals resulting from students’ research can be published. As a result, it can broaden their horizons regarding their knowledge in certain research field.  Apart from honing writing skill, writing scientific journals also aims to train researchers to think critically, objectively, and systematically to understand problems in more depth and think ahead. Writing a scientific journal and then publishing it will become a good track record that shows someone’s competence and can be a good portfolio, especially when planning further studies or to obtain a scholarship. Abstract

Majority of students at Halu Oleo University particularly in Non-English students are struggle in English course. The objective of this research is to investigate the implementation of self-video recording toward speaking skill of Non-English students. The participants of this research are students majoring in capture fisheries who enrolled in general English courses. The method that used in this research is qualitative research where the sampling was chosen purposively. Besides using speaking test, in this research also provides the interview, and spreading questionnaire to find out the students’ response or perception toward the use of self-video recording in teaching general English. Using speaking rubric assessment proposed by Brown (2004) which consist of 5 categories, such as: grammar, vocabulary, fluency, competence and pronunciation, the researcher analyses the students speaking achievement. The result shows that after implementing self-video recording there is an improvement in the form of speaking skill’s ability of Non-English students especially in vocabulary. Besides that, from the questionnaire, it reveals that self-video recording proposed positive response to be applied in speaking class of Non-English students.
