Abstract

Bangka Belitung is an archipelagic region and the world's second-largest tin producer. Communities in coastal and mining areas face health issues related to behavior, individual characteristics, and cultural factors influencing disease patterns. One prevalent disease among urban populations in Bangka Belitung is diabetes mellitus. This study aims to explore the risk factors of diabetes mellitus in urban communities in Bangka Belitung from the stakeholders' perspective. This research employed a qualitative exploratory approach conducted in Pangkalpinang city. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with participants, including eight heads of public health centers, one head of the health department, one chairperson of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI), nine patients, and nine family members of patients across nine public health center service areas in Pangkalpinang city. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The study identified three main themes: (1) Lifestyle, (2) Social, economic, and environmental factors, and (3) Cognitive psychology. These factors contribute to the high prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in urban communities in the Bangka Belitung archipelago. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of T2DM are essential to implement effective prevention and intervention strategies to control T2DM cases in urban communities in this archipelagic and mining region.

Abstract

Indonesia is currently facing a double burden of disease, namely infectious diseases (infectious diseases) and non-communicable diseases (degenerative diseases), which are increasing. Currently, non- communicable diseases (NCDs) have replaced infectious diseases as the dominant disease and are the cause of higher deaths compared to infectious diseases. That there has been an increase in key NCD indicators. The increase in cases of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) will significantly increase the burden on society and the government, because handling them requires a long time, large costs and high technology. PTM cases are not transmitted, but they are deadly and cause individuals to become unproductive or less productive. NCDs can be prevented by controlling risk factors through early detection. One of the government's efforts is the CERDIK program to control Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). This program is implemented to prevent deaths due to non-communicable diseases by emphasizing promotive and preventive aspects. Based on the background above, this activity aims to support government programs in efforts to control NCDs by assisting cadres in early detection and smart education as part of controlling NCDs. Training activities are carried out by providing demonstrations and teaching how to do early detection related to screening, measuring vital signs, checking body weight, height, body mass index, checking blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid. Apart from that, cadres are also given clever education regarding controlling non-communicable diseases. The results of the evaluation that have been carried out are that the majority of cadres are in the good category regarding knowledge and attitudes in early detection of PTM.

Abstract

Background: Reducing stunting rates is a priority for health programs in Indonesia, including in Bangka Belitung. One of the factors of stunting is a responsive feeding problem. The problems experienced by mothers related to responsive feeding are that the way of feeding according to age is not optimal, does not provide examples of healthy eating habits, does not encourage children to eat, and does not interact with children when eating, because they are busy with household chores. Methods: The research used a descriptive phenomenological approach, and the ethical considerations in the study were beneficence, justice, and Respect for human dignity.  The research participants involved were five mothers having stunting children, because saturation (data saturation) was achieved during data collection, so that no new information was obtained.  The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Inclusion criteria included mothers with stunting toddlers who could express  their experiences and spoke Indonesian. Researchers also conducted in-depth interviews to collect data. Researchers used COREQ as a guideline. The data were analyzed using the Colaizzi method. Results: This research discovered five themes, including children's independence in eating versus being fed, refusal to eat, interaction between parents and children when eating, knowing signs of hunger and fullness in children, and eating texture according to the child's age. Conclusion: Eventually, it is expected that mothers can apply responsive feeding and use it as a nursing intervention to improve children's eating habits and abilities more optimally.

Abstract

The problem that occurs in the Pongok Community is the lack of awareness and knowledge of the Pongok village community regarding the disposal and management of household waste. The community disposes of rubbish by throwing it into the sea and burning it. Village cadres have not yet been formed for waste management in Pongok village. There are health impacts from the effects of burning rubbish such as respiratory diseases and problems with the fetus during pregnancy. The target of this activity is Pongok community cadres, and the outcome is that the cadres are expected to be able to make household waste management more useful. The method used in this service is to increase cadres' knowledge and demonstrate the management of household waste that can be recycled, so that it can change people's behavior. The method used in this service is a health education approach, training and cadre formation. The results of the evaluation and monitoring of the activities that have been carried out show positive results, namely increasing cadres' knowledge about household waste management and cadres being able to turn household waste into liquid organic fertilizer (POC)
