Abstract

Indonesian, as Indonesia's national language, plays a crucial role as a unifying tool in a diverse and multilingual nation. Its functions extend to intercultural communication, knowledge transmission, and the reinforcement of social values. However, the reality of Indonesian language use reveals significant phonetic variations, particularly in the realization of vowel and consonant phonemes. These variations, rooted in the influence of speakers' dialects, reflect the complexity and richness of Indonesia's phonological system. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach and contrastive analysis, data were collected through oral readings of the Malin Kundang folk tale by native speakers of each dialect. Analysis revealed significant variations in phoneme realization, triggered by various linguistic and sociolinguistic factors. Phoneme substitution was observed, for example, /z/ being replaced by /j/ (Bima) or /s/ (Jeneponto, Kendari), reflecting adaptation to the local phoneme inventory. Phoneme elision, particularly /h/ and /k/ at the end of words, indicates a tendency towards articulatory economy in informal spoken language. Phonological assimilation was evident in the change of /n/ to /ŋ/ in Jeneponto, influenced by Makassar phonotactics. Reduction or elision of the vowel /e/ in some dialects shows variations in vowel reduction strategies.

Abstract

This study analyzes the ideological construction of COVID-19 discourse within Grade XI English textbooks under Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum. Employing Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) based on Norman Fairclough's model, this research investigates how the textbooks represent social actors (government, health workers, citizens), actions, and values related to the pandemic. Analysis of a text titled "Benefits of COVID-19 Vaccination" reveals persuasive linguistic strategies, such as the use of modality, rhetorical questions, and metaphors, subtly encouraging compliance and social responsibility towards vaccination. Findings indicate that the text is not merely informative but also ideologically charged, reinforcing public health narratives, social responsibility, and the legitimacy of state authority. This study highlights the role of textbooks as tools of ideological reproduction, demonstrating how language can be used to align students' awareness with state-supported views, neglecting critical thinking in favor of moral obligation and compliance. This research contributes to a broader understanding of how language and ideology intersect to shape educational experiences and social values in the post-pandemic era.

Abstract

The Independent Curriculum emphasizes student autonomy, contextual learning, and teacher flexibility. Within this framework, teachers act as facilitators whose approaches influence student engagement and character. This study examines teacher parenting styles—authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive—in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum, based on the perceptions of elementary and junior high school students in Makassar. The study used a quantitative survey method with 257 students from 17 public and private schools through questionnaires assessing teacher-student interactions, discipline strategies, emotional responses, and classroom decision-making. Descriptive analysis revealed the authoritative style as the most dominant, characterized by emotional support, clear expectations, and student motivation. However, aspects of authoritarian and permissive styles also emerged, particularly in inconsistent rules and a lack of responsiveness to student aspirations. This variation is influenced by contextual factors and differences in teacher professional development. Effective implementation of the Independent Curriculum requires consistent authoritative practices. These findings emphasize the importance of teacher training in emotional regulation, inclusive pedagogy, and formative discipline, and encourage national education policies to strengthen character-based learning and teacher-student relationships in line with 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This study analyzes how young Indonesian adults express their quarter-life crisis (QLC) experiences in an educational context using a Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) approach. The aim is to demonstrate that QLC is not only psychological in nature, but also manifests as linguistic performances of identity, insecurity, and resilience. The method used is mixed, combining descriptive statistics and discourse analysis. Data were collected from 33 respondents aged 18–30 years in Makassar through a 17-item Likert questionnaire covering insecurity, future anxiety, motivation, social comparison, religiosity, and satisfaction. Quantitative analysis was conducted by calculating frequencies, while responses were reanalyzed using the SFL Assessment framework (Attitude, Engagement, Graduation). The results reveal three main themes: (1) high anxiety, 36.4% always worry about the future and 54.5% sometimes feel insecure; (2) relational difficulties, 66.7% have difficulty trusting others and 21.2% often compare themselves on social media; (3) religiosity as a dominant coping strategy, 72.7% rely on faith in God's help. Linguistically, this pattern appears as negative affect, negative judgments of others, and positive faith-based modalities.

Abstract

Education policy is not only an administrative instrument, but also a discourse to legitimize reform, persuade stakeholders, and build accountability. In Indonesia, the Merdeka Belajar initiative marked a major shift in education governance, with Episode 3 focusing on the distribution of BOS funds. While previous research has highlighted the financial and governance aspects, few have addressed the discourse dimension. This study fills this gap by applying Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to the minister's speech launching Merdeka Belajar Episode 3. Analysis based on Halliday's metafunctional framework focused on the use of conjunctions as cohesive devices. The findings reveal three main rhetorical orientations: (1) expansion through additive conjunctions (and, or) that present the reform as comprehensive; (2) justification through causal conjunctions (because, so, in order that) that rationalize the policy as imperative; and (3) legitimation through projection (that) that presents an authoritative voice to strengthen institutional credibility. This pattern confirms that language choices serve an ideological function by portraying BOS reform as inclusive, rational, and accountable. By comparing the Indonesian case with studies of policy discourse in Australia, Europe, China, and the US, this research contributes to the global debate on the language and legitimacy of reform.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi pentingnya peningkatan kompetensi mengajar guru Bahasa Indonesia dalam menghadapi transformasi pembelajaran melalui Kurikulum Merdeka yang menuntut kreativitas, kemandirian, dan adaptasi terhadap kebutuhan peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kompetensi mengajar guru Bahasa Indonesia dalam kerangka Kurikulum Merdeka dan mengungkap faktor pendukung dan penghambat guru Bahasa Indonesia dalam mengembangkan kompetensi mengajar dalam kerangka Kurikulum Merdeka. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian lapangan (field reserch) yang menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi mengajar guru Bahasa Indonesia di SMP Negeri 27 Makassar sudah cukup baik dalam mendukung implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka, namun terdapat beberapa aspek yang perlu ditingkatkan. Terdapat beberapa faktor utama yang berupa dukungan dari institusi sekolah, seperti penyediaan fasilitas pembelajaran dan pelatihan internal, serta kebijakan pendidikan melalui Kurikulum Merdeka dan platform Merdeka Mengajar memberikan ruang bagi guru untuk berinovasi. Namun, terdapat beberapa hambatan yang perlu diperhatikan, seperti keterbatasan sarana dan prasarana, terutama dalam ketersediaan fasilitas pembelajaran yang belum merata dan akses materi ajar yang terbatas. Dengan demikian, hasil dalam penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan manfaat praktis dan teoritis, misalnya rekomendasi pengembangan kompetensi mengajar guru dalam kerangka kurikulum merdeka yang terdapat beberapa aspek perlu di tingkatkan.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' ability to write explanatory texts before using the inquiry method, describe students' ability to write explanatory texts after using the inquiry method, and test the effect of applying the inquiry method on the ability to write explanatory texts of eleventh-grade students at SMAN 19 Gowa. This research uses a quantitative research method. Data collection techniques were carried out using essay tests, and the data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (SPSS 29.0.10). The results of this study show an improvement in students' critical and creative thinking skills in writing explanatory texts after using the inquiry-based learning method. The analysis of the pretest and posttest results shows that before the inquiry method was applied, the majority of students were in the fair and very good categories, with some students in the poor and good categories. After implementation, the majority of students moved to the good and very good categories, showing a significant improvement in their abilities. This improvement is evident in the distribution of student scores, where the average score increased from 58.23 in the pretest to 77.30 in the posttest. Statistical tests using the Paired Sample T-Test showed a t-value of 7.018 with a significance level (p-value < 0.001). Since the p-value is less than 0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This indicates a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores, supporting the hypothesis that the inquiry method has a meaningful impact on students' critical and creative thinking abilities. Thus, this research proves that the application of the inquiry method is effective in improving students' abilities in writing explanatory texts, both in terms of quality and variation in critical and creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Program pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada upaya meningkatkan budaya literasi sejak dini di Rumah Belajar Kita (RAKIT) Gowa, sebagai respons atas rendahnya minat baca dan kesadaran literasi dalam lingkungan keluarga. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan metode partisipatif yang melibatkan 20 peserta yang terdiri dari orang tua dan anak-anak usia 5-10 tahun. Pelaksanaan program mencakup serangkaian kegiatan terstruktur berupa seminar dan sesi motivasi dengan pemateri ahli, yang membahas topik “Menumbuhkan Minat Baca Anak dari Kacamata Psikologi” dan “Pentingnya Literasi Sejak Dini”. Selain itu, dilakukan pula pendampingan langsung serta aktivitas membaca bersama yang dirancang secara kontekstual dan menyenangkan untuk menciptakan pengalaman literasi yang positif. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada minat baca anak-anak serta tumbuhnya kesadaran orang tua mengenai peran krusial mereka sebagai teladan dan garda terdepan dalam membangun kebiasaan literasi di rumah. Program ini berhasil menciptakan ekosistem belajar yang inklusif dan kolaboratif antara relawan, orang tua, dan anak. Sebagai implikasi, kegiatan semacam ini perlu dilaksanakan secara berkelanjutan dan rutin dengan variasi aktivitas yang lebih kreatif.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat Desa Batangkaluku melalui penyelenggaraan Festival Literasi yang diadakan oleh TBM Rakit Gowa yang meliputi talkshow interaktif, pelatihan literasi digital, pertunjukan seni, dan lokakarya mendongeng. Metode pelaksanaan mengikuti empat tahapan: analisis kebutuhan, perencanaan program yang matang, implementasi kegiatan dalam format festival selama satu hari penuh, serta evaluasi menyeluruh. Hasil pelaksanaan kegiatan menunjukkan pencapaian yang signifikan dalam peningkatan kompetensi digital masyarakat, yang tercermin dari kemampuan praktis peserta dalam mengakses berbagai platform pembelajaran daring dan kemampuan menyaring informasi hoaks. Melalui pentas seni dan lokakarya yang diselenggarakan, terjadi peningkatan kepercayaan diri dan keberanian berekspresi pada peserta dari berbagai kelompok usia. Fenomena praktik literasi spontan lintas generasi, dimana orang tua secara aktif membacakan cerita kepada anak-anak, mengindikasikan tumbuhnya kesadaran kolektif tentang urgensi literasi dalam masyarakat. Evaluasi program secara konsisten menunjukkan peningkatan yang bermakna dalam hal partisipasi aktif masyarakat. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Festival Literasi terbukti efektif sebagai model inovatif dalam pemberdayaan masyarakat yang bersifat integratif dan berkelanjutan. Sebagai rekomendasi untuk keberlanjutan, program ini perlu dikembangkan menjadi agenda tahunan yang tetap dan diperkuat melalui pembentukan kemitraan strategis dengan seluruh pemangku kepentingan terkait, sehingga dampaknya dapat meluas dan Batangkaluku menjadi ekosistem literasi yang mandiri dan berkelanjutan.
