Abstract

Oral health in Indonesia is still a health problem that needs attention. Based on the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), it is reported that the prevalence of oral and dental problems in Indonesia is still very high. The above can be caused by the lack of knowledge and lack of awareness of the Indonesian population towards dental hygiene, to overcome oral health problems in Indonesia Training of Trainers for teachers and parents for 21-day morning and night brushing activities teaches children and adults about the benefits of good oral hygiene and shows them how to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to realize caries-free Indonesia in 2030. This activity is held online through the zoom application. The target participants were elementary school and inclusive school students aged 7-12 years, 10 parents and 10 teachers at SD Al Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya. The mechanism of the activity is “Training of Trainer” (TOT) for students and parents, showing that Training of Trainer activities on teachers and parents of SD Al Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya students can increase their knowledge and awareness on oral health.

Abstract

Backgorund: Anadara granosa shells can be converted into calcium compounds in the form of hydroxyapatite (HA), tricalcium phosphate (TCP), and calcium carbonate (CaCO3) by hydrothermal method. These calcium compounds have the potential to increase the proliferation of fibroblast cells in the socket healing process. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of calcium compounds from the synthesis of Anadara granosa with variations in sintering time against proliferation of fibroblast cells in socket healing. Materials and Methods: 36 Wistar rats were divided into control group (K1, K2), and treatment group (P1a, P1b, P2a, P2b) which was applied by bone graft with the sintering time 6 and 12 hours on the socket incisor of the left mandible. On the 7th and 14th days, the mandibular bone was cut transversely and stained. Observation of the number of fibroblast cells use 400x magnification with 3 visual fields and the mean was calculated. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The mean number of fibroblast cells in groups K1, K2, P1a, P1b, P2a and P2b respectively is 23.50; 30,16; 28.94; 34.22; 30,16; and 37.50. There were significant differences in all groups, except K2-P1a, K2-P2a, and P1a-P2a. Conclusion: Calcium compounds bone graft from the synthesis of Anadara granosa with sintering time of 6 and 12 hours affect the proliferation of fibroblast cells in socket healing. Bone graft with a sintering time of 12 hours can increase fibroblast cell proliferation more effectively.

Abstract

Background: Candida albicans acts as a trigger to denture stomatitis. Prevention of denture stomatitis can be done by cleaning dentures with mechanic and chemical methods. Bromelin enzymes from pineapple can be use as a chemical substance to purify dentures for its ability to prevent the growth of Candida albicans with its proteolytic activity. Objectives: to determine the influence of soap from pineapple peel extract as acrylic resin heat cured denture cleanser in Candida albicans impure. Materials and Methods: The experiment is post test only group design. The subject is divided into 6 groups. Control group (aquadest), Positive control group (soap with lime extract brand X), and four treatment groups (soap from pineapple peel extract with 0%, 3,5%, 7%, and 14% concentration). Each group is brushed with an electric tooth brush for 5’. Then each sample is inserted into Saboraud Dextrose Broth and 0,1 ml is taken and is vortexed for 30’ then is incubated in Saboraud Dextrose Agar for 24 hours. The colony is counted with the colony counter in CFU/ml. The data will be tested with One Way ANOVA and continued with LSD test. Result: The mean of Candida albicans colony in K-, P1, P2, P3, P4, K+ is 44.00; 32.25; 2.25; 6.00; 11.50; 19.00. There is a difference between the control groups and all the treatment groups (p<0,05). Conclusions: Soap from pineapple peel extract with the concentration 3,5% is the most effective soap as an acrylic resin heat cured denture cleanser to influence the growth of Candida albicans

Abstract

Background: Maintaining dentures is an important key. Pineapple peel extract containing bromelin enzyme as an antifungal might can be used as an alternative denture cleanser. Purpose: To know the difference of candida albicans growth in addition of pineapple peel extract effervescent. Materials and Methods: Heat-cured acrylic resin in 10x10x1 mm in size was used as sample which was soaked into pineapple peel extract effervescent for 5 minutes. There are 4 groups, group 1: sterile aquades as negative control; group 2: potassium monopersulfat, Sodium Hexametaphosphate effervescent as positive control; group 3: 3.5% in concentration; group 4: 7% in concentration. Data was analyzed by using oneway anova and post hoc analysis with LSD test. Result: There was a significant difference in total of candida albicans colony in each treatment group (P≤0,05). LSD test showed a significant difference in group 2 compared to group 4 and group 3 compared to group 4. Conclusions: Pineapple peelextract effervescent gave a significant difference of candida albicans colony growth and therefore can be used as an alternative denture cleanser.
