Abstract

Inclined bite plane is a simple functional appliance used in the lower arch jaw which is work as bite jumper. Anterior crossbite is an indicator of skeletal growth problem and developing class III malocclusion. The aim of this case report is to know the mechanism of inclined bite plane as functional appliance for managing class III malocclusion. In this article we would like to present a 11- year-old boy with class III malocclusion, SNA 76 o , SNB 81 o , ANB –5 o , overjet -3 mm, overbite 5 mm and concave facial profile. The use of acrylic resin in lower arch as an inclined bite plane for anterior crossbite correction in early permanent dentition at adolescent is an effective therapy choice.

Abstract

Oral health in Indonesia is still a health problem that needs attention. Based on the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), it is reported that the prevalence of oral and dental problems in Indonesia is still very high. The above can be caused by the lack of knowledge and lack of awareness of the Indonesian population towards dental hygiene, to overcome oral health problems in Indonesia Training of Trainers for teachers and parents for 21-day morning and night brushing activities teaches children and adults about the benefits of good oral hygiene and shows them how to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to realize caries-free Indonesia in 2030. This activity is held online through the zoom application. The target participants were elementary school and inclusive school students aged 7-12 years, 10 parents and 10 teachers at SD Al Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya. The mechanism of the activity is “Training of Trainer” (TOT) for students and parents, showing that Training of Trainer activities on teachers and parents of SD Al Azhar Kelapa Gading Surabaya students can increase their knowledge and awareness on oral health.

Abstract

Dental and oral problems in Indonesian children are caused by low knowledge, comprehension, and behavior that ignores dental and oral health maintenance, resulting in tooth and mouth damage. This activity is in partnership with SD Yapita which is a school supported by the Faculty of Dentistry, Hang Tuah University. The aim is to prepare parents and teachers of Yapita Elementary School students to become ambassadors for oral and dental hygiene so that they can become mentors for their children or students. This method is carried out online and offline from classes 1 to 6 using a simple random sampling technique. The results were statistically analyzed using the Paired T-test. The average pre-test score from the teacher was 60 and the parents were 56, while the post-test result from the teacher was 84 and the parents was 85. The results of the data analysis were normally distributed (p>0.05) followed by the Paired correlation test T-test. The results show a relationship between the pre and post-test of teachers and parents. This shows that this educational activity can increase the knowledge of teachers and parents so that they can become ambassadors of oral and dental hygiene to their children or students.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of malocclusion in Indonesia reaches 80%, causing orthodontic treatment needs to increase. Orthodontic treatment takes a long time around 15-24 months so additional therapy is needed to accellerate the orthodontic treatment process. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and Stichopus hermanii (golden sea cucumber) which contain bioactive ingredients can work synergistically to reduce inflammatory cytokines. Purpose: To determine the effect of HBOT and Stichopus hermanii on the number of macrophages in periodontal ligament of pressure and tension area in the process of orthodontic tooth movement. Material and Methods: This research used Randomized Post Test Only Control Group Design. A sample of 30 marmot was randomly divided into 5 groups: negative groups (K-), positive groups (K+), Stichopus hermanii treatment group (P1), HBOT group (P2), and combination (P3). On K+ and treatment groups, maxillary incisors of marmot is installed helical spring in order to move the teeth to distal. Analysis of the number of macrophages histologically using Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining. And then tested using the Kruskal-Wallis test, and the Mann Whitney Wilcoxon test. Result: The research data showed a decrease of mean average number of macrophages in the pressure area, K (-): 1.90 ± 0.41; K (+): 4.40 ± 1.14; P1: 4,30 ± 0,90; P2: 3.60 ± 0.54; P3: 2.90 ± 0.41 and the mean number of machrophages in tension area also descreased, K (-): 2.00 ± 0.35; K (+): 4.00 ± 1.00; P1: 4,30 ± 0,27; P2: 4,10 ± 0,65; P3: 3.60 ± 0.65. Conclusion: The combination of HBOT and Stichopus hermanii decreases the number of macrophages in the pressure and tension area in orthodontic tooth movement.

Abstract

Background: Orthodontic tooth movement is a interaction prosess of resorption and deposition of bone remodeling. Orthodontic tooth movement by mechanical strength causes changes in alveolar bone. Osteocyte is an essential cell to respond bone remodelling. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy affects production of osteocyte because it can release Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Nitrid Oxide (NO). Purpose: To determine the difference number of osteocyte in pressure and tension area during tooth movement by adjuvant of Hyperbaric Oxygen 2,4 ATA during 7 days starting on day 8 to day 14. Materials and Methods: This research used Completery Randomized Control Group Post Test Only Design. 36 cavia cobaya (male) were divided into 3 groups randomly : the negative control groups, positive control group, and treatment group. Preparat staining used Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) and calculated on microscop 1000x with 20 field of view. Data analyses used one way ANOVA and LSD test then compared each area by using paired T test. Result: The data showed that the treatment group (P=10,67) tension area has the highest number of osteocyte than negative control group (K-=3,67), positive control (K+=7,42). In the pressure area showed that negative control group (K-=5,00) has the highest than positive control group (K+=3,83) and treatment (P=3,25). Conclusion: Therapy HBO 2,4 ATA 7 days starting on day 8 to day 14 is could increase osteocyte in the tissue to stimulate process of bone remodelling.
