Abstract

This study analyzes the correlation between the Nahwu Sulamus Shibyan and Jurumiyah books in qowaid learning (al-Qawaid al-Nahwiyyah). The research aimed to compare both books based on Mackey's theoretical framework, which includes the aspects of selection, gradation, presentation, and repetition. Qualitative (library research) and comparative descriptive methods were used and the data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using content analysis. The findings revealed that Sulamus Shibyan applies an inductive approach while Jurumiyah applies a deductive method. Both books, designed for beginners, use simple language and rotary gradation with contextual presentation methods. However, they differ in repetition techniques. The study concluded that Sulamus Shibyan is more suitable and easier for beginners at Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) Al Mubarok to understand al-Qowaid al-Nahwiyyah. This research contributed to determining the most effective textbook for novice Arabic learners, with Sulamus Shibyan recommended as a foundational guide for learning al-Qowaid al-Nahwiyyah in early-level Islamic education.

Abstract

Understanding the Arabic language cannot be separated from mastery of foundational knowledge, such as Nahwu and Sharaf. Therefore, understanding Nahwu is very important for students so they can read Arabic texts fluently and avoid mistakes. The goal of learning maharah al-qira’ah is for students to read Arabic texts accurately and fluently. This study aims to analyze the influence of Nahwu knowledge on eighth-grade students’ ability to read Arabic texts at MTs Tarbiatul Islam Aziziah NW Wanasaba. The population of this study comprised eighth-grade students at MTs Tarbiatul Islam Aziziah NW Wanasaba, with a research sample of 45 eighth-grade students. The research method used was quantitative, with data collected through questionnaires and tests. The requirement tests for analysis include normality and linearity tests, while the data analysis technique uses the t-test. Based on the results of data analysis and hypothesis testing, a Sig. value of 0.000 (< 0.05) and a calculated t value of 4.645 (> t table 2.014) were obtained. This indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, meaning that Nahwu knowledge significantly influences reading skills in Arabic texts. The implications of this research underscore the need to integrate a more comprehensive, practical approach to teaching Arabic grammar into the curriculum to improve students’ reading skills significantly.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an in-depth comparison of the orientation and focus of the Arabic Language Curriculum during the New Order and Reform eras, and to identify the implications of this paradigm shift. This study is a qualitative descriptive research that applies a historical study and library research approach, where data is collected through documentation and relevant curriculum literature. The gathered data is analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing stages. The results of this comparison reveal a fundamental difference in the curricular orientation between the two eras. The Arabic language curriculum during the New Order period (including the 1968, 1975, 1984, and 1994 curricula) was essentially focused on the theological-scientific aspect, or utilizing it as a receptive tool for understanding religious texts (the Qur'an and Hadith), with a primary emphasis on grammatical elements (nahwu-sharaf) through a partial approach. Conversely, the curriculum during the Reform era (covering the 2004 KBK, 2006 KTSP, 2013 K13, up to the current Independence Curriculum) reflects a sharp shift in focus to become more sociological-communicative and competency-based. The curriculum in this era demands mastery of comprehensive language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and aims functionally to meet the communication demands of the global society. This shift indicates that the Reform curriculum is more adaptive and provides greater room for the development of students' productive skills.
