Abstract

This article examines how young readers in Makassar construct and perform literary taste through their engagement with Tere Liye’s popular fiction. Employing Bourdieu’s concepts of field, habitus, and capital, and drawing on in-depth interviews, the study traces how taste is formed at the intersection of family background, school environment, peer networks, religious values, and the symbolic power of the marketplace. The findings reveal that, in contrast to Bourdieu’s classic model, family cultural capital does not neatly determine taste; instead, most participants, regardless of class, encounter fiction through schools and communities rather than at home. Organizational life and reading groups emerge as crucial spaces where social capital is accumulated, boundaries of taste are formed, and readers gain recognition and belonging. The commercial dominance of publishers and bookstores further shapes what is visible and legitimate, while the motivational and Islamic themes in Tere Liye’s work respond to both neoliberal aspirations and religious ideals. The study highlights the importance of recognizing the agency of readers, the plural sources of legitimacy, and the uneven structures that frame literary taste in contemporary Indonesia, especially Makassar.

Abstract

The scientific writing training for teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Parepare was conducted in response to the low capacity of teachers to produce publishable academic works. A total of 30 teachers participated in the program, which employed an audiovisual-based Jigsaw approach characterized by collaboration and interactivity. The training methods included lectures, expert and home group discussions, writing simulations, and evaluations through pre-tests and post-tests. The results indicated an increase in teachers’ motivation and competence in developing scientific writing structures and components. The drafts produced demonstrated a solid understanding of academic structure and writing skills grounded in school-based instructional practices. This program not only enhanced teachers’ scientific literacy but also promoted sustained collaboration through the establishment of teacher working groups and supportive school policies. These findings underscore the significance of the Jigsaw-AV approach in improving teacher professionalism and overall educational quality.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menguraikan seksualitas tokoh utama dalam cerpen Rab(b)i karya Kedung Darma Romansha. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah studi kepustakaan (library research) atau disebut dengan analisis isi (content analysis). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa seksualitas tokoh utama dalam cerpen Rab(b)i berdasarkan teori psikologi humanistik model Maslow terpenuhi dalam kebutuhan fisiologis. Kebutuhan-kebutuhan lainnya pun terpenuhi, seperti kebutuhan rasa aman berupa jimat dan perempuan. Kebutuhan memiliki dan cinta berupa janda muda dan perempuan lain. Kebutuhan harga diri berupa pertolongan orang lain dan kesetiaan istri. Kebutuhan paling puncak adalah aktualisasi diri juga terpenuhi berupa menjaga kebersihan tubuh. Di antara kebutuhan-kebutuhan tersebut, yang paling dominan dan banyak mendapat porsi adalah seksualitas. Kebutuhan tokoh utama yang paling dasar sekaligus menjadi kebutuhan yang cukup urgen karena tokoh utama selalu ingin merasakan kepuasan lebih.
