Abstract

The use of innovative learning media has been considered a strategic effort to enhance teaching effectiveness at the elementary school level, especially for conceptual subjects such as the human digestive system. In Dili, Timor-Leste, limited access to contextual learning media and the lack of pedagogical training for teachers have been identified as real challenges in the learning process. This community service activity was designed to improve the skills of elementary school teachers in Dili in utilizing the LUPI (Ludo Monopoli) learning media for the topic of the digestive system. LUPI is an interactive educational media based on a board game, which was developed to facilitate student understanding in an active and enjoyable manner. The implementation method was composed of training, direct practice, reflective discussion, and skills evaluation. The activity was conducted for two days at Universidade Católica Timorense (UCT) São João Paulo II and was participated in by 10 local elementary school teachers. Significant improvements were shown in teachers' understanding of digestive system concepts and in their ability to design and implement the LUPI media in teaching. Moreover, it was stated by the teachers that the use of LUPI increased student engagement, clarified concepts, and encouraged interest in learning. It is recommended that follow-up training based on thematic curriculum and replication of similar media for other topics be provided. The collaboration between educational institutions from Indonesia and Timor-Leste has been proven effective in addressing cross-national pedagogical challenges through an approach rooted in local wisdom and educational games.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using interactive StoryMath media based on Articulate Storyline in improving mathematical literacy of students at San Carlos Manlewana Elementary School. The background of this study is based on the low mathematical literacy skills of students which are still relatively low, as well as the need for more interesting, contextual, and interactive learning methods. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest design on 60 fifth grade students at San Carlos Manlewana Elementary School. Data were collected through mathematical literacy tests, observations, questionnaires, and teacher interviews. The results showed a significant increase in students' mathematical literacy scores after using StoryMath media, namely from an average of 58 in the pretest to 83 in the posttest. In addition, teachers reported that this media made it easier to convey abstract concepts, increase learning motivation, and active student participation during the learning process. Qualitative evaluation also revealed that students felt more interested and helped in understanding mathematical material through contextual and interactive stories. This finding is in line with the theory of experiential learning and the results of previous studies which confirm that interactive narrative-based learning media can improve student understanding and engagement. This study recommends the implementation of StoryMath media as an innovation in mathematics learning in elementary schools to support the development of effective and enjoyable mathematical literacy. The practical implications and further development of this media are also discussed as an effort to improve the quality of elementary education in the digital era.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of empowering Islamic educators to improve their professional competence through a research-based approach. In facing the changing needs of modern education, educators are faced with the challenge of continuously adapting and innovating. This requires an effective strategy that supports continuous professional development. This study aims to examine the application of action research as a strategy to empower Islamic educators, to encourage the development of competence and innovation in learning practices. The research approach used is qualitative with a case study method. The research subjects involved the head of the madrasah, curriculum and student affairs coordinators, teachers, and students. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations of research activities, and document analysis, such as action research reports and school development plans. The data analysis process was carried out through the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and verification to obtain relevant findings. The results of this study indicate that action research is an effective tool for empowering Islamic educators. Action research not only provides space for reflection on learning practices but also encourages innovation and increases collaboration between educators. These findings provide important insights into the implementation of action research in the context of Islamic education and can be the basis for policy development to improve educator professionalism sustainably.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to synthesize empirical evidence on the role of emotional intelligence (EI) in supporting academic achievement within technology-mediated learning environments, addressing the current gap in fragmented findings and the lack of comprehensive reviews connecting EI with digital learning demands. Using the PRISMA 2020 protocol, a systematic literature review was conducted across Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Google Scholar, covering empirical studies published between 2014–2024. From an initial pool of 500 records, 15 studies met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed thematically, with meta-analytic insights incorporated where effect-size data were available. The results indicate that EI enhances academic performance by strengthening self-regulated learning, motivation, emotional regulation, and collaborative engagement across online, blended, and asynchronous modalities. Challenges include inequitable digital access, insufficient teacher preparedness, and cultural constraints on emotional expression. The review contributes theoretically by proposing an integrated understanding of EI as both a cognitive facilitator and an affective buffer in digital learning ecosystems, highlighting its relevance for instructional design, teacher training, and policy development.
