Abstract

Rural agribusiness workers in Kemiling Village face significant challenges in accessing global markets due to limited English proficiency, particularly in technical agricultural terminology and basic business communication. This community service program aimed to enhance vocational competencies through English-integrated training, addressing both linguistic barriers and agricultural skill gaps. Utilizing a participatory action research (PAR) approach combined with Hutchinson & Waters' (2017) ESP framework, the intervention implemented intensive workshops (10 sessions over 2 weeks) featuring: 1) contextualized agribusiness vocabulary acquisition, 2) simulated business negotiations, and 3) project-based evaluations. Results demonstrated measurable improvements: 72% of participants (n=25) mastered 50+ technical terms (pre-test: 20%), while 65% achieved functional transaction-level communication. The program also stimulated local innovation, evidenced by bilingual product labeling adoption in two UMKM. Findings validate that targeted vocational English training can effectively bridge rural-urban divides in global market participation, though sustained mentoring remains crucial for elder participants (35+ years) who showed slower adaptation. This model offers replicable strategies for human capital development in Indonesia's agricultural heartlands, particularly where language barriers constrain economic potential.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model specifically designed for vocational agribusiness education to address the issue of conventional and less contextual learning approaches that hinder students' engagement and competence development. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method, adopting a modified Borg and Gall model consisting of seven stages: preliminary study, model planning, initial product development, limited trial, product revision, field testing, and final product refinement. The research was conducted at SMK Karya Bhakti Pringsewu, involving students of the agribusiness expertise program. Data were collected through observation, interviews, expert validation sheets, student learning outcome tests (pre-test and post-test), and perception questionnaires. The results indicate that the developed model is both feasible and effective. Expert validation showed that the model met content and design standards with a "good" category, The implementation of the model significantly improved student learning outcomes, increased active participation, and enhanced vocational competencies, particularly in entrepreneurial attitudes and real-world problem-solving. Furthermore, students and teachers gave positive responses regarding the practicality and meaningfulness of the learning experience. The study concludes that Project-Based Learning is a suitable and impactful model for improving the quality of vocational education in agribusiness.

Abstract

This study aims to emphasize the importance of equipping farmers with enhanced capabilities to maximize the potential of their available resources. As one of the foundational pillars of national development, farmers play a critical role in ensuring food security through their agribusiness activities. To improve both the quantity and quality of agricultural output, effective farmer management systems must be developed based on real-world challenges faced in the field. Enhancing farmer welfare requires the optimal application of modern and renewable scientific knowledge. This research adopts a qualitative, literature-based approach, drawing on peer-reviewed scientific references and prior studies. The findings highlight that improving farmer performance depends on several key factors: skill development, increased discipline, enhanced productivity, and better overall management practices. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by synthesizing prior research into a practical framework for enhancing farmer performance. It offers insights for policymakers, agricultural trainers, and development practitioners on how to structure farmer empowerment programs rooted in field realities and scientific evidence.

Abstract

ABSTRACTOne type of coffee that grows and thrives in the Ulubelu area, particularly in Gunung Sari Village, Ulubelu District, Tanggamus Regency, is Robusta coffee. The Robusta coffee found in Ulubelu is one of the region's leading commodities that must be developed and preserved. The purpose of this community service activity is to assist farmer groups in the Ulubelu District to innovate in agribusiness development by utilizing coffee commodity products from upstream to downstream and turning them into high-quality sources of livelihood. The method used in this community service program is descriptive qualitative, carried out through discussions, counseling, training, and direct evaluation with coffee farmers and entrepreneurs. The results of the workshop training successfully improved the skills of the farmer group members in providing organic fertilizers and in environmentally friendly pest and disease control for coffee plants. In addition, the service team provided training on agribusiness marketing development strategies, which enhanced the farmers’ skills in processing their harvests, thereby increasing the product's selling value and serving as a higher source of income for the development of community-based MSMEs. This was done by evaluating the progress of coffee cultivation and post-harvest handling practices. Keywords: Training; Farmer Groups of Ulubelu District; Robusta Coffee.
