Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the agribusiness vocational education program in optimizing the practical skills of farmers in Gedong Tataan, Pesawaran Regency, in 2021. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The research subjects consist of farmer trainees, facilitators, and program organizers. The findings indicate that the vocational education program significantly enhanced farmers’ skills, particularly in cultivation techniques, organic fertilizer production, post-harvest handling, and product marketing. The study also reveals that the practice-based learning method (learning by doing) is highly effective in building farmers’ capacity. However, challenges remain, such as limited facilities, low digital literacy, and a lack of post-training assistance. Therefore, the sustainability of the program and multi-stakeholder support are crucial for the development of local agribusiness. This study recommends strengthening the contextual vocational curriculum and integrating technology into future farmer training programs. Keywords: vocational education, farmer skills, agribusiness, training, Gedong Tataan.

Abstract

Rural agribusiness workers in Kemiling Village face significant challenges in accessing global markets due to limited English proficiency, particularly in technical agricultural terminology and basic business communication. This community service program aimed to enhance vocational competencies through English-integrated training, addressing both linguistic barriers and agricultural skill gaps. Utilizing a participatory action research (PAR) approach combined with Hutchinson & Waters' (2017) ESP framework, the intervention implemented intensive workshops (10 sessions over 2 weeks) featuring: 1) contextualized agribusiness vocabulary acquisition, 2) simulated business negotiations, and 3) project-based evaluations. Results demonstrated measurable improvements: 72% of participants (n=25) mastered 50+ technical terms (pre-test: 20%), while 65% achieved functional transaction-level communication. The program also stimulated local innovation, evidenced by bilingual product labeling adoption in two UMKM. Findings validate that targeted vocational English training can effectively bridge rural-urban divides in global market participation, though sustained mentoring remains crucial for elder participants (35+ years) who showed slower adaptation. This model offers replicable strategies for human capital development in Indonesia's agricultural heartlands, particularly where language barriers constrain economic potential.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model specifically designed for vocational agribusiness education to address the issue of conventional and less contextual learning approaches that hinder students' engagement and competence development. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method, adopting a modified Borg and Gall model consisting of seven stages: preliminary study, model planning, initial product development, limited trial, product revision, field testing, and final product refinement. The research was conducted at SMK Karya Bhakti Pringsewu, involving students of the agribusiness expertise program. Data were collected through observation, interviews, expert validation sheets, student learning outcome tests (pre-test and post-test), and perception questionnaires. The results indicate that the developed model is both feasible and effective. Expert validation showed that the model met content and design standards with a "good" category, The implementation of the model significantly improved student learning outcomes, increased active participation, and enhanced vocational competencies, particularly in entrepreneurial attitudes and real-world problem-solving. Furthermore, students and teachers gave positive responses regarding the practicality and meaningfulness of the learning experience. The study concludes that Project-Based Learning is a suitable and impactful model for improving the quality of vocational education in agribusiness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of agribusiness entrepreneurship training on the development of small-scale farming enterprises in Teluk Betung, Bandar Lampung City. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, the research involved 30 smallholder farmers who participated in an entrepreneurship training program in 2021. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-tests. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial motivation after the training. Notable improvements were observed in business planning, simple financial recording, market opportunity identification, and innovation in agricultural product processing. The training also fostered a more independent and market-oriented entrepreneurial mindset among participants. However, some challenges remained in post-training implementation, such as limited access to facilities and markets, as well as the lack of continuous mentoring. The study concludes that entrepreneurship training plays a vital role in strengthening smallholder farmers’ capacity and should be complemented by sustainable support systems to enhance its long-term impact.

Abstract

Farmers in Rejosari Village have problems in managing their finances before and after harvest, because what they do after getting the harvest is to pay debts as farmer capital. The aim of this service is to provide awareness to farmers that it is important to carry out financial management and business management to improve farmers' welfare. In this service, the methods used are lectures, questions and answers, exercises and discussions to improve the abilities of each farmer involved. To find out this, we use the SWOT method, namely Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) Analysis to improve the performance of each farmer. The findings that we have obtained are that so far farmers have never been given good and appropriate financial management training to create correct agribusiness management, so that up to now the level of farmer welfare has been measured by how much harvest they get. In fact, one indicator of increasing farmers' prosperity is how they receive financial training. The financial and business management training carried out has had a positive impact on farmers because it will make it easier for them to be more disciplined in financial management so that they can maximize the management of their agribusiness. Abstract

Abstract The spinach farmer community in the partner area still faces challenges in increasing the added value of agricultural products due to limited knowledge of processing and packaging techniques. This community service activity aims to enhance farmers' understanding of the importance of sorting, grading, and packaging as initial steps toward improving product quality and marketability. The implementation method used the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, focusing on leveraging local assets and active community participation during the training. The activity was conducted in a one-day technical session involving practical packaging demonstrations and discussions, without product simulation. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of post-harvest quality principles and a new awareness of economic opportunities through value-added processing. The ABCD approach proved effective in uncovering local potential and fostering sustainable and independent social transformation.
