Abstract

This study aims to examine the forms of hate speech and the types of speech acts used by netizens who support Anies Baswedan against Prabowo Subianto on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), particularly in the context of the 2024–2029 Indonesian presidential election. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, using data collected through screenshots of tweets containing hate speech. The analysis was conducted using speech act theory proposed by Austin and Searle, as well as hate speech frameworks developed by Benesch and Matsuda. The findings reveal that the most dominant forms of hate speech include insults, defamation, provocation, blasphemy, and the spread of false information. These expressions are delivered through various speech acts such as locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts. The most frequently found types are expressive illocutionary acts (expressing hatred and anger) and directive illocutionary acts (calling others to reject or act). The study concludes that hate speech functions not only as an ideological or emotional expression but also has serious social and legal implications. This research contributes to a better understanding of hate speech patterns in digital discourse and supports the development of forensic linguistics, while also promoting legal and communication literacy in society.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the portrayal of customs, matchmaking, marriage, and kinship systems in the Minangkabau community as depicted in the novel Memang Jodoh by Marah Rusli. The approach employed is Ian Watt's sociology of literature, which emphasises the reflection of society in novels, the influence of the author's social context, and the role of literature within society. The research method is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques involving reading and noting excerpts related to matchmaking in the novel. The findings reveal several points. First, the story portrays Minangkabau customs, focusing on the matrilineal system, marriage traditions, and religious-based customs. Second, the rejection of matchmaking reflects the social conditions of the community and Marah Rusli's view of changing perceptions of customary rules. Third, the rejection of marriage customs shows that the Minangkabau community still upholds traditional values, although Marah Rusli argues that marriage rules should not limit individual freedom. Fourth, the rejection of the kinship system reflects the matrilineal reality and Marah Rusli's effort to reform it to remain relevant to society. Overall, Ian Watt's sociology of literature demonstrates that literature reflects customary realities and plays a role in social change

Abstract

This study analyzes the poem "When the Evening Dove Floats" by Taufiq Ismail using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic approach. The poem represents the condition of Indonesia during a multidimensional crisis, both social, political, and natural. Through the analysis of Peirce's triad of signs (representamen, object, interpretan), this study identifies key symbols such as "the sky of morals that collapses," natural disasters, the Trisakti event, and "the evening dove floats." These symbols are studied to reveal their literal and connotative meanings, as well as various interpretations that may arise. The results of the analysis show that the poem reflects the poet's deep concern for moral collapse, injustice, violence, and the suffering of the people. The symbol "the dove" shows fragile hope amidst the sadness. This study concludes that the poem "When the Evening Dove Floats" is a sharp reflection of the socio-political conditions of Indonesia at the time of its creation, and shows the power of poetry in representing complex socio-political realities.

Abstract

This study analyzes the worldview of the lower class in Wiji Thukul's poetry using Lucien Goldmann's genetic structuralism approach. Thukul's poems, born from the socio-political context of the New Order regime, depict the reality of suffering and the struggles of marginalized lower-class communities. Through Goldmann's theory, literary works are understood as manifestations of the collective consciousness of a social class, meaning Thukul's poetry is not merely individual expression but also reflects broader social conflicts. Employing a qualitative method, the research examines how poetic elements mirror the socio-economic conditions of the lower class, including repression, injustice, and the spirit of resistance. The analysis reveals that these poems serve as a medium for articulating resistance against oppressive social structures while fostering collective consciousness for change. Thus, Thukul's works can be interpreted as products of the dialectic between societal structures and the lower class's worldview, reinforcing the concept of homology between literary and social structures in Goldmann's genetic structuralism framework.
