Abstract

Background: Pseudo Class III malocclusion is characterized by an anterior crossbite with functional forward mandibular displacement. This malocclusion can prevent maxillary sagittal development, and if not intervened upon promptly, can develop into a skeletal class III malocclusion. Therefore, it is essential to avoid this malocclusion as early as possible. Case Report: A 9-year-old male child presented with the chief complaint of prominent lower teeth. Intra-oral examination showed crossbite anterior, presence of crowding, and malposition 21,22. Right molar relation class 1 and left class III, maxillary space discrepancy 6.4 mm, skeletal Class I, patient in growth and development period. Treatment was performed using a functional appliance, a reverse twin block, with additional bilateral expansion on the maxilla and a Z-spring on teeth 21 and 22. Conclusion: Management of pseudo-class III in growing children with reverse twin block has shown success in correcting the crossbite anterior, tooth malposition, and increasing the maxillary arch width.

Abstract

Oral health can affect the overall health of the body, yet there are still many people who do not take care of their oral health. Many factors influence this, including lack of knowledge and cost constraints in maintaining oral health. This service aims to increase awareness of the importance of oral health in the Scavenger Children's Educational Park community. The method of the service is through counseling on the importance of maintaining oral health, teaching how to brush teeth, and conducting oral health screenings. From the oral cavity examination, 38 children were examined with the condition of deciduous teeth with cavities, namely 139 teeth. The number of permanent teeth with caries was 74. The caries index of permanent teeth obtained during the oral cavity examination of children in the age of 6-12 years in the educational park community is 1.73, and the caries index of milk teeth is 5.35. In conclusion, this service activity provided preliminary data on the oral health screening of the children of the Scavenger Children's Educational Park Community in Gampong Jawa. The high caries index in these children can be an input for health services, especially in Gampong Jawa, where children in the area deserve special attention.

Abstract

Stunting refers to a condition of short stature in toddlers due to delayed growth from the prenatal period until the age of 24 months. Chronic malnutrition in stunted toddlers leads to protein deficiency; therefore, active substances are needed for maximum protein absorption. Pineapple core (Ananas comosus) contains bromelainenzymes and citric acid, whichcan enhance protein absorption in conditions of chronic malnutrition and increase saliva flow rate. This study aims to investigate the effect of pineapple core extract on growth parameters and saliva flow rate in stunted Wistar rats. This study involved 16 male Wistar rats, which were divided into four groups: a negative control group (no treatment), a treatment group (75% pineapple core extract), a positive control group 1 (FeSo4 supplements), and positive control group 2 (pilocarpine hydrochloride). Growth parameters and saliva flow rate were measured before and after pineapple core extract treatment. The research results were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukeys test, which showed a significant difference between the treatment group and the other groups in body weight (p = 0.037), body length (p = 0.028), tail length (p = 0.003), and saliva flow rate (p = 0.000). Administration of 75% pineapple core extract resulted in increased growth parameters (body weight, body length, and tail length) and saliva flow rate in stunted rats.
