Abstract

Wick system is an easy-to-do and energy-efficient hydroponic system. Used plastic bottles can be used as planting media, thereby reducing the amount of plastic waste. Pahawang Village is facing the problem of plastic bottle waste and there has been minimal effort to reduce and manage the plastic waste. Training in leafy greens cultivation using the wick system is very much needed by residents because the production can be consumed to meet the nutritional needs of the family. This activity aims to improve community knowledge and skills through training in vegetable cultivation with wick system using plastic bottle waste. The training succeeded in increasing the understanding and skills of participants regarding cultivation with the hydroponic wick system. There are several factors that drive this outcome, including the easy-to-understand content of material presentation, the easy wick system, and the motivation of the participants. Continuous community assistance needs to be carried out as a follow-up so that cultivation efforts can be continued. In that case, the community can generate economic benefits after fulfilling the nutritional needs of the family.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Asupan nutrisi yang tidak adekuat pada masa balita merupakan faktor utama yang berkontribusi terhadap gangguan pertumbuhan, yang bermanifestasi sebagai kondisi underweight dan stunting (tumbuh kerdil), sehingga terjadi deviasi signifikan dari standar pertumbuhan ideal sesuai usia. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat (PkM) bertujuan untuk intervensi pencegahan difokuskan pada upaya ganda: pertama, peningkatan literasi gizi melalui diseminasi informasi mengenai pentingnya kecukupan gizi yang optimal selama periode tumbuh kembang balita; dan kedua, peningkatan pengetahuan serta keterampilan masyarakat dalam memanfaatkan pangan lokal, ikan nila, melalui pelatihan pembuatan produk Fishbar sebagai alternatif kudapan bernutrisi tinggi bagi balita. Efektivitas kegiatan penyuluhan dan demonstrasi pengolahan pangan lokal (ikan nila menjadi fishbar) dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai gizi dan pencegahan gizi buruk dan stunting. Metode evaluasi PkM menggunakan desain pretest-posttest pada N=13 responden. Hasil pengukuran menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan secara statistik (p 0.001) pada tingkat pengetahuan responden setelah intervensi dengan rata-rata skor meningkat sebesar 28.84%, dari 67.31% pada pretest menjadi 96.15% pada posttest yang didasarkan pada Uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test pada data agregat (termasuk kategori ciri gizi buruk, dampak stunting, kondisi stunting, dan periode kritis stunting). Secara spesifik, kategori dampak stunting menjadi pendorong utama keberhasilan dengan peningkatan tertinggi dan signifikan (p=0.0015). Kesimpulan pada kegiatan penyuluhan dan demonstrasi pengolahan ikan nila menjadi fishbar efektif secara signifikan dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat. Kata Kunci: Fishbar, Ikan Nila, Pengabdian Masyarakat, Stunting, Gizi Balita.  ABSTRACT Inadequate nutritional intake during early childhood is a primary factor contributing to growth impairment manifesting as underweight and stunting from ideal age-appropriate growth standards. Therefore, our community service program was implemented as a preventive intervention, utilizing two complementary approaches to strengthen stunting prevention efforts: 1) enhancing nutritional literacy by disseminating information regarding the critical importance of adequate nutrient sufficiency throughout a child’s developmental period; and 2) promotinglocal food diversification through the utilization of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in the development of fishbar products as a nutrient-dense alternative snack for toddlers. The effectiveness of program was evaluated using a pretest-posttest design on N=13 respondents. The results demonstrated a statistically significant increase in respondents' knowledge levels (p 0.001). The overall average knowledge score increased by 28.84%, rising from 67.31% in the pretest to 96.15% in the posttest, based on the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test of aggregated data (encompassing the categories of characteristics of malnutrition, impact of stunting, stunting condition, and critical period of stunting). The impact at stunting category was exhibiting the highest and most significant improvement (p=0.0015). Overall, the program was significantly effective in increasing community knowledge. Keywords: Fish Bar, Local Food, Community Engagement, Stunting Prevention, Child Nutrition.
