Abstract

Leachate is a pollutant produced by landfills which can pollute the aquatic environment. This will have an impact on fish that live in waters contaminated with leachate and if consumed by the public it will harm health. The toxic effects of leachate are caused by the content of toxic chemicals, one of which is heavy metals. The aim of this research was to determine the concentrations of Fe, Cu, Zn and Pb in Bakung landfill leachate, Sukamaju river water and fish meat. Bakung landfill leachate samples were taken from two outlet points. The fish sampling location was carried out in the Sukamaju River. The physical factors of water measured are temperature, pH, salinity, turbidity, DO, COD and BOD. Fe, Cu, Zn and Pb concentrations were measured using the Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method. The results show that the physicochemical parameters in leachate and river water exceed the threshold. The contents of Zn, Cu, Fe and Pb in the leachate at both outlet points exceeded the threshold value with values of 2.48 mg/L and 2.80 mg/L; 16.55 mg/L and 17 mg/L; 0.078 mg/L and 0.113 mg/L; 3.26 mg/L and 3.01 mg/L. The concentration of heavy metals Pb and Fe in river water is 0.083-0.162 mg/L and 2.68-2.97 mg/L which are above the quality standard value, while the heavy metal Fe content in fish meat exceeds the specified threshold value, namely 0.557 mg/100 g and 0.564 mg/100 g.

Abstract

Kata kunci: daya tahan tubuh, lebah tanpa sengat, madu, desa Bumisari ABSTRACT People need to focus more on strengthening their immune systems in order to avoid being easily exposed to numerous diseases, including COVID-19. There are many things that can be done to increase the body's immunity, one of which is by consuming foods derived from natural products that free of harmful chemicals and contain a balanced of nutrients. Honey is one of the natural bee products that can be consumed right away and is good for human health. Apis spp., is the common insect species of bees with sting, are typically kept to generate honey. Because of this, good quality honey is only available from professional beekeepers and honey suppliers. However, wild stingless bees can help people to obtain honey and can be kept at home. Knowledge of honey bee maintenance can help the community to ensure the availability of nutritional intake that can maintain the family's immune system. The implementation of stingless beekeeping training was carried out using the lecture method in Bumisari Village, Natar, South Lampung. The stages of implementing this activity include filling out pre-test and post-test questionnaires to determine community knowledge before and after the training. The achievement of the target can be known based on the results of the questionnaire analysis conducted, which found an increase in public understanding of up to 87.096%. Based on the final results of the activity, it is hoped that the community will better manage the surrounding environment so that sources of nectar-producing plants for stingless bee honey will continue to be available. Abstract

Laboratory mice are widely used in biomedical research due to their genetic similarities to humans. The dietary needs of mice in Indonesia. However, they are frequently not satisfied by commercially available feed. This indicates the necessity for locally obtained, customized feed formulations, like those that include mung beans, which are high in vital nutrients and promote sustainable agriculture. This study aims to compare the effect of various mung bean-based feeds on the weight gain of female mice and their feed conversion value. Four feed formulations with varying concentrations of mung beans (85%, 75%, 65%, and 55%) were compared to commercial Broiler II feed, using 20 female mice over two months. The study involved daily feeding, weighing consumed feed, and mice’s body weight to determine the Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and the Kruskal-Wallis test for statistical analysis. The results show no statistical difference between treatments, which means all treatments are comparable to the control groups in promoting mice growth in all the parameters observed. Nevertheless, a certain trend was observed where the higher the mung bean content, the more similar the results to the control group. Thus, treatments MB85 containing 85% mung beans might have the greatest potential to promote mice growth.

Abstract

Background: Sea urchins are susceptible to environmental changes, including ones caused by anthropogenic activities in coastal area. They are commonly found in coral reef areas, seagrass beds, and mixed sand and coral rubble substrates. These marine ecosystems face critical problem as a result of water pollution, thus affecting their ecological roles as habitats for sea urchins. Pahawang Island is located in the Lampung Bay area and has substrate characteristics that are suitable for the habitat preferences of sea urchins. On the contrary, Pahawang Island becomes famous tourist destination and this can potentially cause damage to habitats of sea urchin. The purpose of this research is to identify sea urchin species (Echinoidea) in the intertidal zone of Pahawang Island, Lampung. Methodology: Samples were collected using surveying method by walking along the intertidal zone during low tide. Sampling locations include Jelarangan Hamlet, Suwak Buah Hamlet, Andreas Resort around Kalangan Hamlet, and Pahawang Hamlet. Sea urchins were identified based on morphological characteristics. Findings: Sea urchins found in the intertidal zone of Pahawang Island consist of four species: Echinothrix calamaris, Diadema setosum, and Diadema antillarum, and Mespilia globulus. E. calamaris and D. setosum were found on substrates such as seagrass beds, coral, and sand, while Diadema antillarum and Mespilia globulus were only found in waters with coral substrates. These four species of sea urchins inhabit diverse habitats and play important ecological roles in the ecosystem, even influencing the conditions of other benthic organism communities in intertidal zone of Pahawang Island. Contribution: This study provides baseline data on sea urchin species within specific area to later plan conservation strategies related to human-induced environmental changes.
