Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the quality of evaluation instruments developed to measure junior high school students’ mathematical conceptual understanding, with a focus on the topic of numbers. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method involving thirty-two seventh-grade students from a junior high school in Pekanbaru. Data were obtained through essay-based assessments consisting of three items aligned with specific indicators of mathematical conceptual understanding and cognitive domain levels. The analysis examined validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discrimination power. The findings show that all three items achieved high validity, although the overall reliability coefficient was categorized as low. The difficulty level varied, with one item classified as easy and two as moderate. Discrimination power also differed among items, with one item having poor discrimination, one adequate, and one good. These results highlight the importance of conducting systematic quality testing to ensure that evaluation instruments are valid, reliable, and appropriately calibrated for assessing students’ conceptual understanding in mathematics.

Abstract

Student worksheets are instructional materials designed to help learners grasp subject matter, foster interaction with teachers, and encourage active engagement in the learning process. In Islamic-based schools, the integration of religious values into instructional resources is essential to provide meaningful learning experiences that support both cognitive and moral development. However, existing mathematics worksheets often lack such integration. This study aims to design and validate mathematics worksheets on exponents and radicals that explicitly integrate Islamic values. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using Plomp’s development model, which consists of preliminary research, prototyping, and evaluation. The study, however, was limited to the prototyping and validation stages. Validation was conducted by three expert validators. The results revealed that the worksheets achieved an overall overall validity score of 90,50% from subject matter experts and 95,62% from instructional design experts, both categorized as very valid. These findings demonstrate that the integration of Islamic values into mathematics worksheets not only meets academic and design standards but also provides a meaningful approach to teaching mathematics that aligns with the spiritual and moral objectives of Islamic-based education.

Abstract

Mathematical Communication Skills (MCS) play a vital role in helping students structure their thinking and express mathematical ideas clearly and logically. Unfortunately, this skill remains relatively low due to limited interaction during instruction and the dominance of teacher-centered learning models. One innovative approach believed to address this issue is Project-Based Learning (PjBL), which positions students as active agents in the learning process. Numerous studies have indicated that PjBL can enhance MCS; however, it remains unclear which educational level and group size are most optimal for its implementation. This study aims to analyze the overall effect of PjBL on students’ MCS, as well as its impact across educational levels and sample sizes. A meta-analysis was conducted on eight published articles selected using PRISMA guidelines and analyzed using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. Effect sizes were calculated using Hedge’s g to measure the magnitude of the difference between the experimental and control groups. The results revealed that PjBL had a significant and moderately (0,785) effective impact on MCS, with students taught through PjBL demonstrating an average of 78.38% higher MCS compared to those in conventional learning environments. The highest effectiveness was found at the junior high school level, which aligns with Piaget’s view that students at this stage are in the concrete operational stage and are more responsive to activity-based and collaborative learning. Furthermore, PjBL was more effective when applied in smaller group sizes, as it allowed for more intensive interaction and support. However, the limited number and diversity of studies analyzed indicate a need for further research with broader coverage and more in-depth moderator analysis to obtain a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract

This study examines how Indonesia’s mainstream digital media—Kompas, DetikNews, and CNN Indonesia—constructed policy discourse on the Rempang Eco City development between January 2023 and May 2025. Employing Discourse Network Analysis (DNA), the research maps relational patterns among actors, concepts, and positions extracted from news articles, providing a dual analytical lens: structural and interpretive. The findings reveal two dominant discourse coalitions: one promoting economic development and investment legitimacy, and the other emphasizing human rights, environmental risks, and Indigenous resistance. These coalitions reflect discursive polarization within public debates on national strategic projects. Conceptually, the study contributes to Communication Policy Theory by situating media discourse as a site of symbolic governance, where policy legitimacy is negotiated through competing narratives. Methodologically, it demonstrates the utility of DNA in capturing actor alignments, discursive clusters, and coalition dynamics in fragmented media environments. The study underscores the critical role of digital news platforms not only as information intermediaries but as active agents shaping public perception and policy coherence. This research highlights the need for more communication-centered approaches in analyzing policy controversies and offers a replicable framework for mapping discursive power in development conflicts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between demand and supply in a Spicy Smashed Fried Chicken business around UIN Suska Riau and its application in mathematics learning. The research used a descriptive quantitative approach with a case-study design. Primary data were collected in December 2024 on Jl. Buluh Cina, Pekanbaru, through purposive sampling involving one business owner and six observations of daily transactions at different price levels. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression under the assumption of ceteris paribus. The results indicate that an increase of Rp1,000 in price decreases demand by approximately 5 portions per day and increases supply by approximately 5 portions per day. The market equilibrium occurs at a price of Rp12,500 with an equilibrium quantity of around 37–38 portions per day. These findings provide insights for culinary MSMEs in determining pricing strategies based on market conditions, especially among students who are sensitive to price changes. In addition, the resulting linear models can be applied in Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) to help students understand mathematical modeling through real-world contexts
